WARS OF THE 20TH CENTURY: GOODBYE DAD
Today my mother says goodbye,
crying to the man
who once was my dad.
They told me he's off to the front
where the enemy fights
and tries to confront.
I just want to play with him again,
to laugh and share joy,
though I didn't always like his rules,
I still don't want him to fall
in the middle of a battle stall.
Boom! A bomb explodes,
I'm filled with fright,
as the shattered glass of porcelain,
I wonder,
has he died in that blast tonight?
Children's games have changed so much,
where the streets once thrived,
now they're barren, lifeless, touched
by the war that has arrived.
The sirens blare,
another attack, beware.
