I'm running. Every time I start to slow down, fear gives me a burst of energy. Chills run up my spine as I hear growling behind me. Suddenly, I stumble over a tree branch, falling hard onto the ground. I cry out as cuts start to form on my palms and knees. The growling sounds again, closer this time.

Taking a shaky breath, I turn around and gasp. Staring back at me is a grey-eyed vampire. Ross. I stare back at him, my chest heaving. "What do you want from me?" He growls again before launching himself at me.

I barely have time to shield my face before I am thrown to the ground. Spots appear in my vision as I suck in a breath. "Please, just leave me alone."

He snarls, then digs his teeth into my arm. The scream that comes out of me is animalistic. My heart speeds up as my vision blurs. He slowly releases my arm. I slump to the ground, my eyes frozen open. My vision fades to black as I wake up, a scream on my lips.

Drake rushes inside, a worried expression on his face. "I'm here. It's okay." He wraps me in a hug, rubbing my back.

I take shaky breaths, my body trembling. "I was in the woods and I was running. After several minutes, I stopped after tripping over a tree branch. When I turned around, Ross was in front of me. He growled, then launched himself at me. I barely had time to shield my face before he bit me. Then I woke up." I get out of bed, heading to my bathroom. A few minutes later, I walk out of the bathroom fully dressed.

Several different emotions flash across Drake's face, one after another: rage, sadness, and shame. I walk over to him and take his hand. "Please just leave it. I promise, I can handle Ross."

I can practically see steam coming out of his ears, but he nods nonetheless. He grabs my hand as we walk down to breakfast. I clutch his hand as we sit down.

His mom smiles at me. My stomach is in knots, and seeing all the food on the table makes it worse. She glances at me. "Not hungry?" I force a smile, shaking my head.

My mind wanders during breakfast. "Oh!" Mrs. Andrews says suddenly. She disappears into the kitchen, reappearing a few seconds later with a note in her hands. She hands it to me and I grab it with shaking hands. "This was on the doorstep for you, Dani."

All the colour drains from my face as I read the note. I told you to watch your back. Go to the cemetery before school. There's a surprise waiting for you.

My hands are trembling as I put the note down. "Everything okay, Dani?" Mrs. Andrews's voice snaps me out of my thoughts. I slowly nod, swallowing hard. After breakfast, I take a shortcut to school through the woods. I stop at the cemetery on my way through the woods and gasp.
