Wanted: Two

Two🔫

"Proyekt G?" Amelia says in disbelief. "The humanitarian organization that was founded in Russia, 30 years ago?"

"That's the one." Jay confirms. "The organization is just a front. Their actual objective is to create weapons."

"Okay... so what does that have to do with them coming after my parents and me?"

Leaning back in his chair and sighing, Jay continues with his explanation. "Proyekt G, promoted itself as an organization that wanted to better the lives of people around the globe. Your father at the time was studying abroad and looking for an internship that he could use as experience for when he graduated. Russia, was a mystery to him so as the adventurous type, your father applied and was accepted into Proyekt G. During that summer, you're father shadowed a scientist who oversaw the creation of vaccines. This was the legitimate side of the business and your father fell in love with the prospect of helping people who needed it."

"Fast forward to four years later. You're father had graduated with his Bachelor's of Science degree in Biology and recieved a Master's of Science degree in Biology with Genetics and Molecular Biology. During his last year of graduate school, your father met your mother who was in her second year of law school. They fell in love and a year later married." Jay smiles, remembering their wedding. "You're mother had a year left of law school, so sadly their first year of marriage was long distance. Since your father officially accepted a job at Proyekt G, but they made it work."

"So, these people came after my family just because my father worked for their company?" Amelia asks a bit irritated.

Jay shakes his head, no and continues the explanation. "It's much more than that Amelia. Your father remained ignorant about the real purpose of this organization til years later and by this time it was too late. All his research was done under their supervision and led to so many deaths of children. Your father thought all his genetic research was there to better the lives of people around the world, but that wasn't the case and his latest "cure" as they liked to call it, ended up...with you."

"What do you mean, 'ended up with me'?"

Jay closes his eyes for a moment to collect himself, then opens them to make eye contact with Amelia. "You are your father's last experiment, Amelia."

Amelia's chair flew back and her fist slammed onto the table, from a sudden burst of rage."What the fuck do you mean, I was my father's last experiment?! Stop tip toeing around the subject and tell me!" She exclaims angrily.

"Amelia, you are the only surviving experiment from the first, bozhestvennyy proyekt. This experiment was conducted on 17 test subjects, all were children, and the oldest age was 6."

"Are you trying to tell me that my father willingly took part in experimenting on children?" Amelia asks incredulously.

"Not entirely, but by the time he found out what was going on and what he contributed to the project, it was too late. Only 4 of the 16 children remained and you had been brought into it. Your father ignorant to what was going on, convinced your mother to allow him to experiment on you in utero.

I'm not sure, how long it took but your mother started showing symptoms that caused huge concern for your father. And while looking into them further, he stumbled a cross the videos and data of the experiments conducted. He was horrified by what he had seen and knew he needed to get his family to safety. By this time, your mother was 7 months pregnant with you. So there wasn't much time left before you were born. It took your father only 2 weeks to get you and your mother out of Russia and back to the states, but he had to stay a bit longer to tie up loose ends."

Amelia, sat in silence for a few moments, trying to take everything she just heard in. She has always felt different but to think she was created to be a weapon and her father took part in it, was unfathomable. "So, what you're saying is that this organization is  after me because I'm the sole survivor of some experiment?"

"Yes, and no." Jay replies.

"What do you mean, 'yes and no'?"

"Yes, they want you because you're the sole survivor of bozhestvennyy proyekt, but that is not the only reason. You are, the only completely successful experiment from past and present projects this organization has conducted. So they want to study you, so they can make more modified humans like you to have under their control.

When your father finally left their organization, he copied all the data that was on you and your mother, and his contributions to a flash drive and deleted everything from the mainframes. So, they essentially would have to start from scratch. That's pretty much, all I know." Jay, says finishing up his explanation.

Sighing, Amelia runs her hand through her tightly coiled hair. She couldn't understand why, she was taking this all so well. Maybe it's because she was finally getting the answers, she's been looking for, for so long or maybe she was just in shock. Either way, she knew dwelling on it wasn't going to solve anything.

Think back to the night, she lost her parents. She remembers, being called the number 17 by one of the organization's henchmen. Is that in relation to the number of test subjects, during the first experiments. Amelia, fills Jay in about the experience she had 13 years ago and her theory, which he confirms.

"The organization stripped the children of their names and referred to them as numbers to dehumanize them and ease their conscience. The sick bastards!" Jay, exclaims in disgust.

Well, at least now I understand why he called me that, all those years ago. She thinks to herself.

"So, when are we leaving for New York?"

"In three hours, so pack light and try to have everything in order, in about an hour. I'll come to pick you up from your apartment, so we can head to the airport together."

Amelia nods and stands up from the table, to leave. Once in the car, on her way home. She calls Gabriel and he picks after the first 2 rings. She explains to him, that she is leaving for a couple a days and that she needs him to check up on Ike and Marissa while she's gone. He agrees and before he can pry, Amelia thanks him and ends the call. There were somethings, she wasn't willing to tell him. No matter, how hard he begged her.

The hour seemed to go by so fast. Before she knew it, she was packed and on her way to the airport with Jay.

It's going to be a long day.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

After the hour and fifty minute flight. Jay and Amelia, arrive at the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City. Stepping off the plane with her luggage, Amelia follows Jay out of the airport to find a cab. Once seated safely inside the vehicle, Jay gives the driver the address and they're off.

Thirty minutes later, the cab comes to a stop in front of a white brick townhouse in Manhattan. Amelia gives Jay a curious look, but remains silent, knowing that now is not the time for questions. Once inside, the questions she has kept bottled up, spill out.

"Why are we here? Aren't we supposed to be going back to my parents house? Whose place is this? And how do you have a key to it?..."

"It's one of the safe houses, your father bought to hide from Proyekt G. One of your parents friends is in charge of the upkeep. I notified them we were coming, so everything is ready to go. Just place your bags in one of the rooms and we can go."

Amelia follows Jay's instructions and meets back up with him in the kitchen.

"Ready?"

Amelia answers him with a single nod and follows him out the door, towards a black maximum parked on the street in front of the townhouse. Once they are buckled in, Jay takes off.

"So, all the gear we need is in the trunk. We'll have to park and hide the car about a mile away from the house, so we aren't easily spotted. I can lead us to your father's lab, but you'll have to take it from there." Jay explains.

"Huh? Why?" I ask confused.

"Because, the only ones who can access the lab are your parents and you."

"Oh."

"Yeah, and looks at the device your father gave me. None of the Proyekt G agents have found it which means we should be able to get in and out undetected. Hopefully, we won't have to fight anyone tonight."

Amelia nods in agreement and the rest of the ride is continued in silence. After almost an hour, Jay pulls the car off of the road into the woods, where it can't be seen. They both quietly get out of the car and head to the truck to get the gear.

In the bag are two pairs of night vision goggles, two 9mm hand guns and 10 extra clips and two boxes of ammo. It also carried, two big hunting knifes, a stun gun, a taser, and 2 silencers. Once, they are fine gathering their gear. Jay, locks the car from the inside and the begin walking in the direction of her family's home.

Amelia follows behind Jay, quiet and alert. They have no idea if any of the agents are on the premises, but her father's device indicated that it's been at least 2 days since any of them have gotten close. After about 10 minutes of walking, Jay begins to veer off towards the east. In all this time, Amelia hasn't sensed or seen anyone. Five more minutes go by and Jay comes to a stop in front of a big oak tree.

Amelia studies the tree and quick flashes of her memory flow through her mind, but they come and go too fast for her to decipher their meaning. Shaking her head slightly, she walks and stops beside Jay. Trying to figure out, what exactly he is looking for.

"What now?" Amelia whispers to him, while removing the night vision goggles, like he did.

"Place your hand onto this part of the tree." He explains while pointing at a specific spot on the tree.

Well here goes nothing.

Amelia places her hand onto the tree and the sound of numerous clicks can be heard. In the next second, a screen comes up and what is displayed in text is, 'Identify yourself'  with a 60 seconds timer in the corner.

As if she has done this before, she immediately responds to her full name in a low voice. Next was a retina scan and then it ask to scan her palm. Not even a moment later, the sound of something being released is heard and a doorway is opened, leading into the tree. This feels so familiar, but Amelia cannot recall ever visiting this place with her parents.

Not taking another moment to think, Amelia steps over the threshold. Followed by Jay, and once both of them are inside the door closes behind them, leaving them in total darkness.

Taking a small step forward, Amelia must have triggered something because suddenly the dark space is filled with a bright light. Blinking rapidly, Amelia's eyes adjust and im front of her is a staircase that leads down. She looks back at Jay, for a moment before she begins to descend down the staircase until she comes to another door.

This door looks to be made of steel, so there is no way she could open them with her bare hands. As she moves closer to the door, another screen uncovers itself next to the steel door. Instead of text being used this time, a robotic voice asks her to identify herself. Amelia follows the same steps, she did to get in here, but this time the door doesn't open. Instead, the whole lab seems to lock down and red lasers are coming from all directions pointing at Jay, who is directly behind her.

Intruder alert...Intruder alert... The voice begins to repeat.

Jay looks just as shocked and panicked as  Amelia does.

What the hell, am I supposed to do now?! Amelia thinks to herself
