24. What a Way to Crash a Meeting

A/N:  So sorry this chapter took so long, I really struggled with it, hence why it's so bad (at least in my opinion). So sorry again for the quality and how long it took, but I hope that you enjoy it at least a little bit.

TW: Brief mention of Spider-Man stopping a suicide

Shifting my weight to my toes, I start running towards Green Goblin, shooting a web ahead of me to blind him, "You ready to dance Goblin?"

He opens his mouth to reply but grunts instead when the web hits his eyes. He starts to automatically reach up to start trying to tear it off, leaving me the opening I need to jump up and kick him in the chest, pushing off of it to backflip and land back on the roof.

The Green Goblin nearly falls off of his glider, but quickly corrects his footing to bring it back under him. Before he can fully get his balance, a web splats onto his chest that I tug, causing him to start falling towards me. I wind back to punch him in the face but end up jumping away instead when my spider sense blares, causing me to miss the sharp blades on the front of Goblin's glider that he had aimed towards my chest.

I land on the other side of the roof and scoff, "Hey! That wasn't very nice. Trust me, you don't want a spider shishkabob. They're not very tasty. Although," I strike a pose, "they sure do look good."

Growling, Goblin puts some distance between me and him so that he can finish getting the webs off of his eyes.

While he's working on the webs, I shoot one myself and swing so that I land on the skyscraper behind him and crouch, ready to pounce. Goblin finally rips the webs off and narrows his eyes when he can't see me. Right when he starts to spin around I tackle him, "Peekaboo!"

Hitting him roughly, I knock his glider off balance, causing us to go tumbling through the air.

While falling, I go to web one of his arms to his side but before I can the other one punches me across the face, knocking me off of Goblin.

I shoot a web to catch myself and start swinging towards a skyscraper before my spidey sense blares, causing me to shoot another web quickly with my other arm and tug, changing my direction and just barely avoiding a bomb.

I glance behind me to see Goblin lobbing more bombs at me. I shoot another web and tug, once again barely avoiding another bomb. Repeating the process, I eventually find myself in a patch of skyscrapers further in the city. Landing on the side of one I yell, "You know Gobby, bombs aren't toys. They shouldn't be played with."

I rapidly fire a bunch of webs towards Goblin that he dodges. He throws another bomb without giving me time to shoot a web and swing away, causing me to have to jump towards the bomb instead.

I go to kick it away, praying that it won't explode in my face. When it doesn't, I start to shoot a web to catch myself but then realize through my spider sense that I didn't kick it far enough away, meaning that when it goes off, both me and Goblin are caught in its blast radius, blowing us both back in opposite directions.

I grunt as the blast knocks the wind out of me and pushes me through the air at a high velocity, causing me to crash into the side of a skyscraper and actually shatter the window.

I land on my back and feel myself slide down what seems to be a long meeting table, knocking everything on the table out of the way. I come to a stop at the end of the table and just lay there for a second, sprawled out on the table and staring at the ceiling.

Taking a breath, I prop myself up by the elbows and look around, just noticing all of the Avengers, along with Nick Fury, staring at me in surprise.

Chuckling nervously, I lift my hand and wiggle my fingers at them in greeting, "Hi guys."

Tony's POV:

Pushing open the meeting doors I'm met with the faces of the rest of the Avengers turning to look at me as they sit on chairs surrounding a long meeting table, Nick Fury standing at the head next to large floor to ceiling windows.

I stride in and casually take a seat in the last open chair, leaning back in it and looking as if I don't have a care in the world.

I smirk slightly at the glare Nick sends my way. Mission accomplished. Nick's annoyed.

Nick turns to address the whole room, "Now that everyone is finally here, let's get this meeting started. What did you guys learn from your outing on the streets?"

Like the goody two shoes he is, Steve speaks up first, "I don't know about you guys, but I ended up talking to this kid practicing basketball by himself. Apparently he used to be really bad at basketball but still had the dream to make it into his school's basketball team and Spider-Man ended up helping him become good enough to make it. Now he has friends from the team and is doing really well. We talked about how Spider-Man helped him when no one else did and that he kept coming back to help him improve more.

It really just showed me how much Spider-Man cares for everyone. He sets aside so much time in his life to do this and he does so much more than I thought. I didn't realize how well he knew everyone in this city and how well he takes care of them. And I think that because of how good he is to everyone, everyone bands together to take care of him back."

Latching onto the last part Steve said, Bruce jumps in, "Me and Tony actually came across an example of someone taking care of Spider-Man. We ended up carrying in the groceries for an old woman named Delilah who told us that Spider-Man actually consistently helps her carry her groceries inside and put them away. Because of what Spider-Man does for her, Delilah always makes sure to have him stay a bit longer if he has the time so that she can feed him and just chat. I think that there are probably so many other cases where people have done that."

"Well I can tell you for sure that the police officers tend to help Spider-Man out," Bucky explains. "They have a really good relationship and are on good terms with him. We learned that he actually assists them a lot and helped them bust a child trafficking ring last night."

Natasha nods her head slightly, "Going back to the first part of what Steve said, Spider-Man really does help everyone. He doesn't discriminate. Me and Clint came across this young artist who draws a lot about Spider-Man. He shared his story that Spider-Man actually prevented him from committing suicide and helped him get help. Spider-Man inspires people to believe that they're worth it and that they can accomplish great things. He helps them feel happier and have a greater hope for their futures."

Wanda nods in agreement, "I would like to point out again that Spider-Man inspires everyone. Me and Vision came across these two little girls who became friends because of Spider-Man. They talked about how Spider-Man was someone they wanted to be like when they grew up. He makes people happy and he knows how to help them. And I definitely agree that he's a good person to look up to after everything I've seen regarding him."

Sam leans forward in his chair and clasps his hands together, "I agree. I would also like to say that Spider-Man does what we don't. He handles what we don't handle. That means that he does a huge variety of things, ranging from big to small and both the dark and light parts of the job. The police officer we talked to made a good point that because of that, Spider-Man has seen and helped take down some of the true monsters of this world and that we honestly haven't. Yes, we've handled aliens and bigger problems, but we really don't help with anything else. Spider-Man truly knows what a hero is and he is one. Yes, we are superheroes, but Spider-Man is just an all-around hero."

I decide it's finally my turn to speak up, "Spider-Man isn't afraid to help people, no matter what they need. He's kind and considerate and I totally agree that he is an all-around hero and someone to look up to. He inspires people and helps them discover that they have worth. But he also needs us on his side. Yes, he has a lot of connections through what he does, whether that's with people on the police force or with other vigilantes, but I say that he still doesn't really have enough people on his side still. We're just hindering one of the best people in this city by going after him and angering the city as a whole for going after their hero. We should work with him, not against him, and we need to help show him that he can trust us to have his back."

The room falls to silence at my declaration as we all turn to Nick to see what his thoughts are on Spider-Man. He just stares back at us, thinking. We wait for another moment before he finally speaks up, "So what I'm hearing is that we've gone about this all wrong and we should really try to get Spider-Man on our side. He's still really powerful but he's using that for good and we really want an asset like that knowing that we're not going to betray him at any given opportunity."

I quirk an eyebrow at the wording, "Spider-Man isn't an asset to be used. He is a person you know, and a good one at that."

Nick just turns and raises his eyebrow back at me, "People can be useful, there's no denying it. Besides, now we have the problem of trying to convince him that we're not trying to bring him in still through tricking him that we've changed our minds."

"Well we have changed our minds. Or rather, you have," Vision points out.

"Yes, but Spider-Man doesn't know that. So why would he just let us approach him to talk?"

"I mean, I think there is a good chance that he would still do that. It seems like he believes in others and their ability to change. I don't see why that would be different for us."

Nick pauses, "Yeah, that makes sense, but we still need to find him, which could prove to be a challen-"

He's cut off by the loud sound of shattering glass as a blue and red figure crashes through the window and slides along our meeting table, coming to a rest at the end of it. The figure lays there for a moment out of breath, allowing me to recognize him as Spider-Man. My eyebrows raise in surprise.

I watch him take a deep breath and prop himself up on his elbows. He glances around the room before chuckling nervously and raising his hand to wiggle his fingers at us in greeting, "Hi guys."

Well he sure knows how to make an entrance.
