|28| Missing persons report

I call everyone we know. They are just as clueless. No one has seen or heard from Chris.
With no idea where he could've went, we check everywhere. Mary, Carter, and The Jonses scour all of Penshaw, Colorado, and even Denver since it was once where Chris dreamed of living.
They call and at least for them, it rings. Except all hope is abandoned because he never picks up. We even resorted to *67.
Donny, Eli, Andy, and Calvin— Chris's coworkers— are all with Nia. Lost.
"This isn't like him!" I cry to the police.
"Did you two have a fight before he left?" Asks one officer.
I slowly raise my head so that I can see him. "You asked me that before. Again, what does it matter?"
He looks at the other officer and they stalk towards the exit.
"It's possible he just needs some space, ma'am." Says the cop.
"Bullshit!" I argue.
"How do you know?" He looks bored, hands on hips.
"Because I know him! He wouldn't do this, I'm telling you. Listen, I just need to know where he is. Can you— can you find him?" I plead, completely changing my tone.
I realize I can't tell them what I read in the letter because they won't look for my fiancé, understanding that he left me - the part I'm having a hard time grasping.
I'm desperate, I need their help to bring him home. Prayers won't work, manifesting either, and sending him messages on social media is just getting pathetic. Useless. I only keep sending them because he didn't bother blocking my online profiles unlike my phone number.
Both men suddenly look sympathetic.
"Miss," Officer Diaz sighs. "you filed a missing persons report, you've done all you can. Rest, you look like you need it." His hand falls on my shoulder and I just stare at it.
He gets the hint to remove the unwanted physical contact and clears his throat, shifting his eyes to his partner.
"In the meantime, Ms.Bennett," Officer Anderson speaks up, "we'll let you know if we find anything."
"So I'm just supposed to sit here and wait? It's been days, I-I haven't eaten, or slept. I'm worried sick, I—"
"You said you were getting married soon, yeah?" Asks Diaz.
I nod my head optimistically.
"Chances are he got cold feet and booked it." The policeman's words make my lip quiver.
"Oh, God-" I am so disgusted by the law enforcement officer that I pace with my hands up in the air.
Anderson cuts in, excusing his coworkers' behavior.
"What he meant is: we'll do all we can, but yes, now you wait." he says quietly in my ear.
So that's exactly what I did.
