Chapter 10
Somewhere In The Santiago's Mansion....
"So you're telling me my daughter, drugged you, stripped you of your phone and guns, had you chained, robbed you of the job I specifically gave you, all by herself and you stand in front of me to tell me you are sorry, I give you one simple job and you come up with this shit story of my daughter, can you even hear yourself? What were you fucking doing with my daughter?" Don Santiago boomed in anger, he was beyond angry, if it were any other person that was standing in front of him telling him this shit story, that person would be long dead.
He didn't want to believe all he was hearing, his daughter was too innocent to think of something like that, could it be that Gabriel messed up the job then hurt his daughter just to put all the blame on her?
He was sure Gabriel wouldn't dare, but at this moment he didn't know what he was sure of, first his daughter was missing with no trace of her, it's either she ran away or she was hurt. He couldn't think straight, he had to leave the room before he did something he was going to regret.
"We are far from done with this conversation." He said angrily before exiting the room.
Don Santiago got to his room as he slammed his door angrily, everything was planned, everything was going well, but no, his daughter had to ruin everything, how many times had he told her to stay away from the mafia business, but she never listen.
I would have been planning to attend the funeral of one of my greatest enemy but she had to destroyed the perfect opportunity.
Although she shot his right hand, he wasn't the target. The real devil was still breathing.
I had to find my daughter, her life was in danger, it wouldn't take long before they know of her deeds, she might have disobeyed me but she's still my daughter and my only child at that, she is all I have in this crazy mafia world, I never showed weakness to the outside world but my daughter is my weakness, I'll die before I let harm come to her, I need to find her.
******
Gabriel
Fuck, how could I be so careless? I didn't even suspect a thing, no one would have, she looked too innocent to have cooked up such a plan, that's why one should never trust a woman with an innocent face, I was fooled.
I let it happen right under my nose. The boss had always trusted me to carry out jobs, but this time his own daughter played me right before my own eyes..... it's going to take some time to earn back the Don's trust.
I'm going to have one hell of a talk with Cara when I see her, she knows what she has done that's why she has gone into hidding, but wherever she may be, I know she isn't safe, she can't hide for too long, she just dragged herself into what her father had always wanted to avoid, being in the mafia isn't a child's play.
"Boss, the Don want's us back in the meeting room" I heard Jackson say.
Men, I've been dreading being in the same room with the Don, it felt like he was throwing daggers at me, I knew that if looks could kill I'd be seven feet under the ground, that I'm sure of.
I reluctantly moved to the meeting room, not like I could avoid going, I wish I could.
As we all gather in the meeting room, I could feel the tension in the room as one wrong move could unnerve the Don, he was furious anyone could tell, with the quietness in the room right now, you could even hear a pin drop very clearly.
" I want you to gather as many men as you can, I want my daughter found and brought to me, do not return to this place without my daughter," The Don said to us and I could clearly see that he meant every word he just said.
He looked at me one last time before walking out, I could tell by his look that he was giving me the responsibility to bring his daughter back, even if I he was angry with me at the moment and would rather see me dead.
I gathered the men as we begin our hunt for the mafia princess.
I gave them instructions as they all take their leave, going different ways to get whatever information they could get, I had to check her room to see if I could at least find anything that might give me a clue.
"Damn, she was so smart, boss the whole time I thought I was talking to you, like it was your voice I heard, you were the one I was talking to, I don't know how she did it, but that was fucking smart." I heard Jackson say.
"And fucking foolish" I told him, before making my way to the said smart ass room.
I entered her room and from the interior of the room, you would never guess the kind of person the owner is, I am now a strong believer of the word 'Never judge a book by its cover'..... I was played by the owner of this room.
After searching for what seems like hours, I found nothing, nothing that could lead me to her and nothing on how she managed to get every information we had concerning the assignment. How could she have known what we were planning? We only discussed everything in the meeting room behind closed doors, then how?
Finding nothing useful I turn to leave the room when something caught my eyes, it was covered but a little part of it still showed through the cover on the bed. I walked towards it as I took the covers away revealing a laptop.
I took the laptop from the bed and turned it on, as I waited for it to boot. When the laptop finally came on, it had a lock, shit! I knew it certainly wasn't good to be easy to unlock this laptop, but I had to try, at the moment I need to get whatever information I could lay my hands on.
After several attempts, the laptop was still locked, it was beginning to give a warning, telling me I couldn't try to unlock it again until the count down was complete.
I didn't have that much time to stay here trying to unlock the laptop. So I took the laptop and went out of the room, closing the door behind me, I left for my room, I would check into the matter later. I went into my room, to keep the laptop, I hid it in one of my drawers, locked it and put the keys in one of the secret boxes I had.
I drove out of the house to a friend of hers whom I've dropped her off at her place a couple of time. She didn't have many friends, mostly because she knew the line of business her father did, being a mafia Don brings you a lot of enemy, not just you but your family, not just your family, but the friends of her family, the circle continues, so you see, the mafia isn't a child's play.
I got to the house of her friend, rang the doorbell as I waited for someone to come open up. After some time, the door was opened by an elderly woman, who from the look you could tell is a grandma, she looked at me from head to toe accessing me before she asked " Fine young man who are you looking for?".......Damn, I couldn't even remember this friend name, was it Samantha? or Naomi? or Abigail? remember you idiot...I told myself, how can you forget something as simple as a name? Not that she asks me to take her to many friends, just this one, she was always like, could you please drive me off to Stella's place.
Dumb idiot, it Stella, just Stella and I couldn't remember. Just as I was about to tell the old lady I was looking for Stella, a voice came from behind her, "Granny, who are you talking to?" I was right after all she was indeed a Grandma.
"Your boyfriend here came to see you but be is too shy to even speak, how cute," I heard the grandma say, if she knew who I was she wouldn't even call me cute or let me anywhere near her grand daughter.
The voice from earlier spoke again, as a beautiful lady came into view. so grandma thought I was her boyfriend, that's not a bad idea, she was beautiful after all, like seriously, was I really thinking that now? How can someone in my situation be thinking that? When Don Santiago could blow my head any moment, as it is, my life is on thin ice.
"Granny he's not my boyfriend, leave the poor man alone," The lady said as the old lady turned away to leave muttering "whatever you say,"
"I'm sorry about her, old age makes her say things she's not supposed to say," Stella said as she looked at me in question wondering who I was.
I wouldn't blame her, not like we've ever stood in front of each other to have a conversation before, I only just drop Cara and drive off.
"It's okay, bye the way, I'm Gabriel, you might not really know me but I've dropped your friend Cara over here countless times," I said as I stretched my hand to her for a shake, she reluctantly accepted it as she gave me a nervous smile.
I was beginning to get suspicious, was she nervous because she knew where Cara was and was just pretending to not know me when clearly she knew who I came here to look for?......well I wouldn't find out if I didn't ask.
"I came by to check if Cara is still here, she said she was coming by your place last night but she hasn't returned home and she's not taking her calls, so her Dad was worried and asked me to check." I asked her as I carefully wait for what ever reaction she would give, besides, I couldn't tell her I knew Cara didn't come to her place last night, but I was rather checking if she came here to hide after pulling such stunt, I doubt it, I just had to be sure.
As I looked at her it seemed that she was as clueless as I was, she didn't have the answers I was looking for, but I had to be sure, after all I've been fooled by an innocent face not too long ago and as it is usually said, 'Birds of the same feathers flock together.'
"I'm sorry to say but Cara didn't drop by yesterday," She said as she looked at me square in the eyes, I wanted to believe her, but Cara's play of innocence had done a number on me, so it's hard for me to trust anyone with an innocent look on their face, this woman could be tricking me just like her friend.
"So you're sure you haven't seen or heard from Cara?" I asked her again.
"Look young man, I don't understand why you would come to my house, asking me of my friend, whom you claim you are looking for, and I tell you she didn't come to my place and you again ask me if I am sure or not, that is disrespectful," She said as she glared at me.
I didn't want my head cut off, so nodding in agreement, I wished her a good day as I walked away, I turned to look at her one last time as she leaned against the door still glaring at me, I gave her a wink before I finally left.
There was one more place I needed to check before I could finally decide if she was still in the country or probably in another, I had to check if she flew out, the airport was just the perfect place to get that information, and I knew just the person to ask.
I got to the airport in no time as I walked to one of the staffs, " Excuse me lady, is Michael in his office?"
"I'm sorry sir, but I don't really know, I haven't seen him today, I've been busy with work."
" Okay thanks, I'll just call him."
I picked my phone, dialing Michael's number, I waited for him to pick up
the call, finally he picked up as he answered with a bored voice.
" Yes Gabriel, to whom do I owe the honour?" he asked me mockingly, I didn't have time to joke around with him.
"Not now Michael, I need you to check if Cara Elena Santiago took a flight last night and what country she flew to," I told him seriously.
Sensing the seriousness in my voice, he told me to give him some time to check, I quietly hold on on the line as I hear shuffling in the background and then typing, it got quiet for a some time before he finally spoke.
" Found it, it seems Cara took a flight to London at around 11:46pm precisely,"
Shit!
So this meant she was already out of the country, how do I tell this to the Don?
