Chapter 8: In Deeper Water

Mike

Three points for me and zero for the pathetic girl who thinks she can trick Mike Nor.

I don't know what kind of crazy possessed her to embarrass me in front of the whole school like that, but she was going to get it. I know I said that for the thousandth time, but as a celebrity it takes years to develop the image that I have now, but only seconds to destroy it.

If she gets away with the crime that she has committed, all the students at Ridgewood would make a laughing stock out of me.

Sure, I took up the role of the cliché 'bad boy player' icon- not bothering to lift a finger to write down notes in class, pushed people into doing the work for me, and roamed around the halls doing whatever the heck I wanted, but it's hard work doing that stuff.

Some people, like Ashlyn, may look at me like I was a person with no substance or value because I was like any other player out there. To them, I was the same old thing and there was nothing unique about me.

Personally, I don't give a fuck about what they think because I am the player of Ridgewood, and this was my turf. I'm the king and this was just a little playground that I could mess around with.

Hell, the teachers don't even mess with me because my dad practically owns the school. I could do whatever the hell I wanted.

No one has stepped out of line before until Ashlyn came along. I was going to make sure that she's going to learn her place and follow my rules; If she didn't, she wasn't going to stay in Ridgewood.

I'll make sure of that.

"Mr. Mike Nor!"

I turned around and found Gardner running across the parking lot in my direction.

You have got to be kidding me! How the hell did he find me?

"Garrison," I growled, "you little shit."

Garrison was the only person that knew what I was doing and he must have told Gardner. What did I expect? Of course the little devil was going to screw me over somehow.

Sprinting off in the opposite direction, I circled around the dorm and ran back inside. I had to lose Gardner somehow. I didn't want to go home to help Dane prepare my father's welcome back party.

The only party that I'd be helping set up that involves my father is his funeral.

"Oh fuck." I gasped as I bent down and rested my hands on my knees. This was insane. I couldn't breathe. Who knew that running around one of the dorm buildings two times and up a flight of stairs could be enough to give someone a heart attack?

On the bright side, this would probably get me fit before the season finale of Blood Run.

After I managed to climb a few more steps, I saw one of Ashlyn's blonde roommates go back inside her dorm. Maybe I could have a chance to get to know her and hit on her. Wouldn't that be a scandal-me cheating on Ashlyn with her best friend and roommate? That is, if I get Ashlyn to like me but knowing my charming self, I probably would.

"Hey," I called out, trying to restrain myself from panting like a rabid dog. "is Ashlyn still there?"

The blonde turned quickly around and leaned up against her door post, her arms wrapped around it for support and her chest heaving up and down from the surprise and complete utter confusion. "My name is Lauren, incase you were wondering."

Seems like someone was a little confused as to what I was asking.

Nevertheless, I smiled and strolled over to her with my hands in my pockets, which slowly swayed from side to side as I walked down to her- seeming casual at first glance but adding a smooth charm to my step as I got closer.Step two was smilingat her with the smile that usually melts all my fan girls to a small puddle of lip stick and makeup; a subtle grin pushed up on the right side to a few little crinkles making it playful but not overly flirtatious.

"I didn’t ask that, but since you got me started my name is Mike." I paused for a second to let the comment rest in her mind, "I haven't seen you around besides this morning."

Poor girl, she looked like a deer stuck in head lights. Maybe I should have taken it a little easier on her. Some girls can't handle the level of flirting I hit them with sometimes. I tend to be a little too sexy with my intros.

"If I'm too much of a bother, I'll just leave-"

Lauren jumped out of her trance and awkwardly fidgeted with her hands. "Oh, me!"

Talk about an extremely late reaction.

"Well, yeah." I laughed, though on the inside I couldn't get over how dumb this girl was. There was no one else in this hall but us. Who did she think I was talking to, Bernie the janitor ghost?

The blonde blushed and bowed her head while nervously pulling back a few strands of her hair. "Oh, well hi." she giggled nervously and looked back up at me. "What was it that you wanted again?"

I rolled my eyes because I knew when someone was acting. She just wanted to hear me say it one more time, or change the subject and hoped that I forgot about Ashlyn. Whatever was going through her head, I just went with the flow.

Besides, I haven't kissed a girl today and I was bored as hell.

"I forgot." I lied, leaning against the wall and looking into her eyes. "Maybe we could talk for a while and then hopefully I'll remember it?"

Lauren shrunk away from me and covered her face in embarrassment. "May-maybe we could just talk out here. I could help you like remember it like you-I forgot what I was going to say." The blonde looked back up at me and held her breath, staring at me and lowering her gaze down to my lips.

I smirked. Bingo.

"Maybe," I whispered gently reaching out to hold her head in my hands "this will help you remember."

When I went forward to kiss her, she delicately placed her hands against my chest and held me back, unwillingly reluctant to hold me off. "What about her, I mean Ashlyn? I thought you two were dating."

Damn it, I was hoping that she wouldn't remember that. Now I had to make something up.

I sighed and looked to the side, trying to make it look like I was upset over the whole ordeal. To be honest, I was upset but I was upset that she wouldn't let me jump to the action. Words were words, why couldn't we just skip them?

"She broke it off with me." I lied so we could go past this as soon as possible.

Lauren gasped. "She did! Oh my god, I'm so sorry about that!"

Nodding, I continued my imaginary sob story. "It was mostly my fault."

I dramatically broke off our gaze again and stared down at the floor, trying to put my fake tears and watery eyes to work. Even though I had been acting for most of my life, it was still hard for me to cry in a few seconds.

Eventually, pain settled but soon seared at every inch of my eye. Good, this was good. I was actually getting somewhere.

"Oh god." Lauren uttered in a tone overflowing with pity. "Come inside. Ashlyn's not home. We can talk here."

Momentarily snapping out of my act, I tilted my head in confusion. "She's not?"

The girl took my hand and led me to the couch, letting me sit so close to her I was practically sitting on her lap. Wasn't it supposed to be the other way around?

Patting my knee, she stared at me with concern and leaned closer to me. "Tell me everything."

I was running out of patience. Why couldn't she just kiss me already?

"It hurts too much." I stammered-trying to make the act seem more real so I could just have her shut up and kiss me. "Thank you, you being here means so much to me."

"Really?"

"Really." I whispered pulling her closer to me, "I don't know what I was thinking. I was dating Ashlyn all this school year not knowing the real angel in this dorm."

Lauren leaned in to kiss me, but she pulled away. What the hell was her problem-teasing me like this?

"Today is the first day of this school year."

Shit, she had me.

A look of confusion and suspicion flickered in her eyes, but I quickly leaned in and kissed her hoping that she would forget about the question.

Surprisingly, she just went with it and didn't ask any questions. Finally, this was exactly what I needed.

As much as I wanted to continue kissing her, I started to pull away-slowly so she wouldn't freak out. Currently, she was on top of me so I hoped she wasn't getting any wrong ideas.

"Babe," I breathed out when I was able to catch some air "I think I-"

When I pulled away too quickly, she pulled me back into her and smashed her lips into mine-clanging our teeth together. What have I got myself into? Lauren was a good kisser, but now that I needed to go I she pressed me even farther and it felt like my tongue was stuck in a blender.

"Woah," I stammered as I broke away from her "I think I need to go."

I should have realized the mess that I got myself into. Blondie looked innocent on the outside, but if I didn't leave no she would eat me alive. It was always the innocent looking ones that you should watch out for.

Sliding off the couch, I looked down and saw that I wasn't wearing any pants. When did that come off? I didn't recall doing any of that.

This was real bad news. Now I really got to get my stupid ass out of here.

"Don't go," she whined, "it's only been a few seconds."

I scoffed and gave her a look while I wiggled into my pants. "Honey, we all know that seconds aren't really seconds when you're with somebody." What I really wanted to say was, Bitch, you're crazy and I'm getting the hell out of here.

It was a blessing that I was leaving now. Lauren's once neat and tidy hair that was pulled back into a clean pony tail was now frizzled out to the sides like an Albert Einstein cross dresser, and lip stick was smeared all over her face like a bear that just finished it's evening meal.

"Somebody?" Lauren's mouth gaped wide open in shock, and the very sight of her mouth made me flinch, "I'm just a somebody to you?"

I was probably going to have nightmares over this. It was going so well, but exactly how a horror story would take place; she would bite off my tongue and bash my teeth out with her teeth repeatedly.

"Mike," she asked me again, this time her voice tightened with fury, "were you just using me?"

Man, I really screwed myself over. This chick was going to kill me.

Pressing my back against the creaky wooden door, I swallowed hard and blindly fumbled around for the handle behind me.

"Special. A special somebody. Now darling, I really gotta go."

A grim expression lowered the edges of her lips, and she crossed her arms. "I see. You aren't by any chance Ashlyn's chemistry partner are you? It's like she's expecting them to come over, but you have been the only one to drop by."

Chemistry partner? Sure, why the hell not. The new information will help me get closer to the moron.

I lightly smiled and rubbed the back of my head, "Oh yeah, that's what I came here for." Blondie's glare was starting to freak me out. Just in case I had to make a run for it, I slightly opened the door. "Why do you ask?"

Crumpling up a note in her hand, she threw the ball at me to where it lightly bounced off my chest. How canny. Why couldn't girls like Ashlyn be more like this and not result to physical violence at any opportunity?

While bending down to pick up the ball of paper, I shot Lauren a quick wink. "Thanks, love. Now what is this for?" I couldn't see anything special about this rolled up ball of tree and ink.

She rolled her eyes, but she seemed to be less tense then she was a few moments ago. Maybe my sweet talk was finally the soothing music to calm the wild beast. "Ashlyn's phone number. I suggest you to call her."

Now I was really getting somewhere.

"Will do."

Before I turned around to leave, I gave Lauren another smile to end things on a more pleasant note. I hated leaving girls heartbroken in my presence. It made me look bad. Like my wise old cranky kindergarten teachers has always said, have integrity and do the right thing even when no one was watching.

"And one more thing, babe." I smiled as I walked out the door, "When we meet again, let's start off things exactly how we left them.” Leaving her with one last wink, I got my ass out of there as fast as I could.

That was what I call a close call.

You know what? Now that I'm out of there, I guess I could say that the whole thing was exciting in the craziest way-with all that escape from the crazy demon chick before she kills you and all. Wow, guess watching horror movies all night finally caught up to me.

I really needed to stop that.

Getting Hothead's number was perfect, but when I called her parents my luck got even better when they gave me the address to come over to her house so I could come over and 'study' with Ashlyn today.

Seriously, everything was going as planned. If fate kept fitting all the pieces into place, I would be able to get Ashlyn all over me in two days and dump her the next week.

My life would go back to the amazing piece of shallow art that it was.

"Why aren't you working." I muttered while I angrily tapped the GPS with my fingers, driving in circles around the block.

Trust me, I would pull over and park so I could fix this stupid thing if I could, but if I stopped the car I would probably get mugged by some crazy random hobo that hid behind one of the bushes or garbage cans. There was no chance that I was going to park in broad daylight.

I could already imagine an old wrinkly man with a white scraggly beard- which would be delicately stringed with nacho sauce- proudly showing the world his confederate flag bandanna aiming his rifle at my head. Sitting like the duck in the middle of this dump with a Zenvo ST1 would make me an easy target.

You probably don't know what a Zenvo ST1 is, right? Don't expect you to. For one, it's so outdated and an old model-2010. Second of all, only people like me could afford them.

It took me a fucking week to get all that cash to pay off for it. I could have got a new private jet and a few little trinkets on the side.

Taking another look around, I knew that I was in the wrong place. Every house on the street had metal tin roofs that looked like they were slowly falling of the sides and chipped paint.

Ashlyn couldn't live here, could she? Ridgewood only allowed the most talented and prominent students to enter in their gates, making it impossible for poor slime rats that lived in these areas to enter.

There was one time this summer where they allowed one student from a ghetto high school to attend out school for free because they were so poor that they can't pay attention. That was a cheap joke.

And there goes another pun. Wow, I'm in such a good mood I can just kiss myself.

Wow, that's just awkward.

Anyway, They said that the student was a genius and it was a privilege for Ridgewood to have them. The student won a contest that Ridgewood held-I don't know what it was because I wasn't paying any attention- and got in.

During the summer, that was all you would ever hear but it all died down because the person seemed to disappear into thin air.

Could the selected student be Ashlyn? It explains the lousy sweatpants anyway.

But I attempted to kiss her, and I was trying to make her fall for me. Why was I wasting time on this rat?

Wait, if she's a rat, how the hell did she dump me like that? I'm Mike Nor and who is she to do that to me? What if everyone at Ridgewood found out? But I couldn't just date a slimeball like her. I'm Mike Nor, for crying out loud!

This wasn't a good time to make assumptions. I just had to find things out the hard way and see if it was true or not.

Right when I circled around the corner again, I saw a black Cadillac pulled up on the side. Well that looked promising.

Maybe Ashlyn's family liked the backdrop and landscape-the land's swooping variety of dry grass and overgrown backyards that toppled over the fences and ran wild into the dense forestry behind it. Or maybe it was the rustic snapshot of decaying houses that soothed them.

Now that I could sit back and take a closer look at it, I could see how her family could appreciate it.

If you stared at if for a little longer and observed all the small and minor details, the neighborhood became a living piece of art itself.

Enough with that, it's about time I get inside.

Before I could knock on the door, it swung wide open and revealed a big burly man- bearing a slight resemblance to Arnold Schwarzenegger - holding Ashlyn's arm behind her back like she was some captive that you would see in one of those action/suspense movies.

What kind of crap did I get myself into?

Half of me wanted to chicken out and run out of here because I just knew that this whole damn neighborhood was not a symbol bearing any good news, but I had to stand my ground and figure a better way out of this.

Number one rule I learned from action movies was never turn your back because they won't shoot you if you were a witness to a crime.

Everyone simply stared at me and Ashlyn's mouth hung low to the floor. I couldn't see what she was staring at. What did they want me to do?

Clearing my throat, I took a peep in and noticed that the house was a complete wreck. "Am I... interrupting something?" I asked innocently while gazing up at Terminator man. Hopefully, I could just slowly back out and pretend that I was a Girl Scout selling cookies or something.

Schwarzenegger rose his eyebrow as if he was studying me, and pulled me in with one hand.

"Woah, hi there." I stammered as I tried to battle against his arm, doing my best to smoothly exit out of this situation "I just wanted to check things out, and I was just planning on leaving-"

With one sweep of his hand, he threw me inside, and I was thrown down into the center of the living room with the rest of Ashlyn's family with a gun resting on the back of my head. This was just peachy.

Soon enough, Ashlyn was tossed onto the ground next to me-sitting on her knees with her hands in the air like the rest of us.

"What the hell, Ashley?!" I hissed-throwing her an angry glare before Terminator man swiped me back to face the front with a rough blow with the hilt of his gun.

She returned the glare and rolled her eyes. "It's Ashlyn. This is probably the twentieth time I-"

"Shut up!" Beef cake yelled from behind us. No, he needed to shut up because he does not understand the dilemma that I am going through at the moment. I, Mike Nor, was being accused of something outrageous and ridiculous.

"There was a fucking gun pointed at my head. I knew it was Ashlyn, you moron. Just in times of pressures like these, I can't get it right!"

Ashlyn scoffed. "You're such a loser."

"Am not. Who decided to dump me in the hall?"

"Because," Ashlyn continued while drawing out the end like a 'z', "you're a loser. You're such a player! And there was nothing there to start off with-"

Two guns were jammed-once again-into the back of our skulls. Was this man trying to give me a concussion? I had to act in the final episode in Blood Run. They wouldn't be able to go on with out me.

Beef Jerky growled behind us. "Shut up or I'll blast a clean hole between both of your eyes from the back of your heads!"

Oh shit, he was serious. I wasn't going to die here in the garbage can was I?

I was Mike Nor, the famous Hollywood celebrity that every girl on the entire planet practically adored. I couldn't die here.

But at the end, it didn't matter did it? Death was the greatest equalizer, and no man can be greater than the other in the face of death.

Stupid Ashlyn. If I escape out of this place alive, I was going to freaking kill her. She better not pull a 'you were in the wrong place at the wrong time' speeches if we get out of this alive, because it was her that tempted me to come over here.

How did I end up like this?

At first, it was only about my reputation not my life was on the line. I only got myself into deeper water.

A/N: And yes, Mike kind of had a short lived revelation that he may not be the immortal being that he usually thinks he is xD

If you liked it, please leave a vote ;) Comment because it means so much to me and MAY influence how the story ends. And when I say 'may' I mean, yes haha xD.

QUESTION: Did you guys kind of see that coming-with all that jazz with Mike involving himself with the dirty secrets of the Demoir family? What do you think is going to happen next xD

I mean.... got to give some credit to Mike. He's kind of smart and he'll figure somethin' out. Right? I hope. I can't have him dead yet xD Anyway love all you lovelies <3 Thanks for reading
