Chapter 8 Answers

Daden De Long stared at Wei Ying thoughtfully.

"That's a strange question. I assume you are speaking about curing Dashi?"

Wei Ying nodded.

"It seems only fitting. Right now, he's a danger to himself and those around him. That's why we were not allowed to bring here with us, and even in Cloud Recesses, he's running circles around the healers, simply because he doesn't understand safety. Someone has to be around him all the time...and I...I think that's terribly sad, that's all." Wei Ying blinked back tears.

Lan Zhan reached across and found his hand, squeezing it lightly.

"I can't help thinking, he was a master in his own right, a caring man who created his own family, calling it the Flowers of Venus, you know, he had a life...and now...now he's dancing to some music playing in his head. Even that's okay, if he wasn't trying to pick up snakes and whatnot. The thing is...his situation...it could happen to any one of us." Wei Ying looked at Lan Zhan then, squeezing his hand back. "I can't imagine forgetting you...I...I...to think that's even possible..."

Lan Zhan pushed a glass of water towards him, and Wei Ying chugged it down, trying to push away the thickness in his throat.

"I just want to give him his life back. If there's a way, I'd like to know." He finished quietly.

Daden De Long appeared to be thinking hard for a while.

"Thank you, Young Master Wei." Zai Shu Xia spoke up. "I realise that in everything that followed, I have not acknowledged your significant help, not only in defeating Yao Wang, but overall in getting us out of there. And you've given our daughter a wonderful home, so much so that she wishes to stay with you, rather than come and live with us."

Wei Ying already had his free arm around Li XiWang; now he pulled her closer to his side.

"Thanks are not necessary. Anyone would have done the same." He replied softly.

"No...they wouldn't have. Still, for what it's worth, we are both grateful to you and your family. Your clan housed us for many months, making sure we were fit to travel. Your hospitality should not go unmentioned." She stood up and bowed.

Tiaopi De Long also stood up and bowed to Wei Ying and Lan Zhan.

"My brothers and sisters, truly what my wife has said, is true. We would not be here today without their help nor that of their friend, the new King of the Nether world, Hui Gai. "

One by one, all the dragons stood up, with their wives and they all bowed deeply.

Wei Ying was the shade of a tomato by this point, strongly resisting the urge to hide his face among the white robes next to him.

Questions and answers flew by as they sat down again, the brothers eager to know the story of how Tiaopi De Long and Zai Shu Xia were rescued. Any awkward feeling disappeared in the low hum of conversation.

Wei Ying watched as the other Dragon wives accepted Zai Shu Xia fully into their circle. Perhaps everything would finally be alright for these people.

"Ah, I've remembered." Daden De Long suddenly said.

His human form resembled his dragon form so much that it was comical to see, those big, thick eyebrows scrunched up in thought, his prominent nose, very much like a snout, and those deep set huge eyes.

"Really? There's something that can help?" Wei Ying sat forward in his excitement.

"Yes, although I'm not sure how it will help." He smiled kindly. "There's a plant called Jiyi Huifu...it does as its name implies, restores memories."

"Why are you uncertain?" Wei Ying asked him. "Even the fact that there is, and you know the name...that's nothing short of a miracle."

"But I do not know where to find it, that's what I meant." He clarified. "It's no good if you have everything except the location."

"I suppose so." Wei Ying laughed. "But I imagine any information to be like the tail of something; pull it and the animal will appear. What does it look like?"

"Truly, I have not met anyone like you before." Daden De Long smiled with him. "At least, if and when you do find it, you will be certain it's the right one. Its leaves are broad and wide, and not green at all, just a vivid orange colour. But the flowers, they're something else. Pink and tiny, but extremely powerful. And the curious thing about it, is that the leaves make you forget, while the flowers can restore your memory. It is a remarkable plant."

"Orange leaves and pink flowers." Wei Ying repeated, making sure he had the correct information.

He happened to glance up and saw the expression on Tiaopi De Long's face, as the dragon became more and more uncomfortable. The other dragons were clapping his back and welcoming him home, when he stood up.

"Actually, I might not be staying."

There was silence for a few seconds, and then there was uproar.

"What do you mean?"

"Why aren't you staying?"

"Where will you go?"

"You only just got back!"

But Daden De Long stood, holding up his hand.

There was immediate silence.

"Let him speak." He turned to his baby brother. "Why do you wish to leave us again?"

Tiaopi De Long looked down, ashamed. He took a deep breath.

"I'll stay...at least for a while. But coming back here...I mean, I missed you all, so very much...I did. But I know myself...I know that I have a restless heart...I just don't want to give you false hope, that's all." He was quiet, letting them process his words.

"That you are trying to be honest with us, it says a lot." Daden De Long said after a while. "Though it is painful to us that you do not wish to stay with us. After all, you are a grown man with your own family." He looked at Li XiWang. "I suppose you would want to go and visit your daughter, because she won't be here."

"That is true, among other things." Tiaopi De Long sat down again.

The mood was subdued now.

"As long as you don't get yourself kidnapped again..." someone said.

It was so unexpected, everyone suddenly found themselves laughing, and more jokes were made regarding the youngest dragon's ability to find himself trouble without effort.

Some of the Dragon wives approached Li XiWang.

"Niece, since you do not plan on living here, may we take you to see something? It's something extra special, and only available to view for the next two days." They told her.

"Perhaps you would all like to take some rest before you leave." Daden De Long suggested.

"Fathers? May I go with my aunts?" Li XiWang asked, anxiously.

"Do you want to?" Wei Ying asked her back.

She grinned and nodded enthusiastically.

"Then of course you can."

She jumped up and kissed his cheek, doing the same for Lan Zhan before leaving with her aunts. She paused by the door.

"Can mother come with us?" She asked, tentatively, looking back uncertainly at Zai Shu Xia.

Zai Shu Xia was surprised but she stood up too.

"If you'll have me, then I'll be happy to come with you." She said, shyly.

"I'll come too!" Daden Yaonu jumped in, taking her arm.

She winked at Wei Ying before leaving, just to reassure him that she would be keeping an eye on both Zai Shu Xia and Li XiWang.

"Come. Let us rest for a while." Daden De Long said. "There are rooms here that you can use, plenty of space."

To Wei Ying's surprise, Lan Zhan was already up and taking him along. They followed their hosts through a roughly hewn tunnel until they came to a corridor with several doors off it's main branch. The first one was opened and given to Wei Ying and Lan Zhan.

Wei Ying had been watching his husband, worried that something was wrong. When they entered, he ignored the beautiful decorations on the wall and huge window letting in a bluish light. Instead, he turned to Lan Zhan.

"What's wrong, my love?"
