Chapter 78 Ideas

Bai Hua held out her hand, and Wei Ying passed her the book.

"As long as you're here, will you tell us why Rumi is not mentioned at all inside it?" He asked.

Lan Zhan was ready and waiting for her to pass out so he could catch her, and Wei Ying thought it was safe to ask her questions.

This question had been preying on his mind for such a long time now, and he thought it was pertinent information to have.

Bai Hua was flicking through the pages as though she was looking for something.

Wei Ying wondered what it could be, since most of that book was written by herself, she would be familiar with its contents. So if she was looking for something she hadn't written, it had to be something still yet to happen in the future, and there was no certainty that whatever it was, was still going to take place.

"Do not keep this here." She said, suddenly clutching Wei Ying's robes. "It is not safe."

She took one last look through the pages and then gave it back to Wei Ying.

"Whatever happens to it, let it happen. It is meant to be." She said, and then looked at Xiangfa. "Destroy the Eye. They are coming."

Then she passed out.

Lan Zhan caught her and held her close in his arms.

"Maybe we should take her back to our room. She needs to rest." Wei Ying turned to Xiangfa.

She looked unnaturally pale, beads of sweat decorating her forehead.

"Xiangfa, what's wrong?"

"How does she know about the Eye?" She whispered, staring at Li XiWang.

"As Bai Hua, she was given the gift for Foresight by the Heavenly Emperor. She's the one who wrote this book." Wei Ying held it up. "She predicted her own rebirth as Li XiWang, our daughter. And now we've answered your question, please can you answer ours? I should tell you, you have nothing to fear from us. We only wish to complete our mission, but we can help you, if you tell us everything.

For the first time since they had met her, Xiangfa looked torn between wanting to speak her mind and not being able to, for some unknown reason.

"Perhaps it's better if you rest for now, and I will let you know." She decided.

She hurried away before they could ask her any more questions.

"That was strange." Wei Ying commented, picking up Rumi. "Let's go to our room."

Rumi picked up his book, the one Li XiWang was reading to him, intending to take it with them, when a creeping vine wrapped itself around his ankle.

Wei Ying tried to move away and found he couldn't because another vine had wrapped around his waist.

And the more he struggled, the tighter it got.

"WingAnLaZhan!" Rumi shouted, and Lan Zhan turned around.

Bichen flew from it's place, fully intending to slice at the offending plant but Wei Ying held up his hand and stopped it midway.

"Wait, Bichen...I want to try something. Rumi, put the book down."

The moment the demon baby lets go of his possession, the tendrils let go of him, and unwound itself from Wei Ying's body.

Wei Ying planted a kiss on the hilt of Bichen, inducing it to shudder in delight.

"Thank you my love." Wei Ying told both the sword and its owner, who was smouldering in his direction. "I have to say, I really like your angry face." Wei Ying beamed at him.

"Children." Lan Zhan warned.

"I know, I know!" Wei Ying couldn't help his facial expressions, though, the laughter coming out anyway. "I don't mean to tease you...it just how I felt at the time...and do you know Lan Zhan, I think it's because I see Bichen as an extension of you."

"Mn. Wei Ying is correct. We are connected spiritually, and because Wei Ying is a part of myself, Bichen will protect him too." Lan Zhan definitely looked smug now.

"I guess the library has its own protection wards in place, which actually reinforces our belief that the book would be safe here. But that's a moot point now." He hummed to himself.

"Mn."

"I have so many more questions though!" Wei Ying whined. "I thought, great! Finally, the Temple of Wisdom, they'll have all the answers, every single question I have ever had, I mean, I was so excited...and look what happened!"

"There, there..." Lan Zhan smirked, totally not meaning it.

They were at their room now and they didn't bother with putting the children in their own room, they all tumbled into the same bed, the adults bookending the children.

Despite his excitement, Wei Ying fell asleep even before Rumi, who had wrapped his tail protectively around Li XiWang.

As he fell asleep, Lan Zhan wondered how much their baby actually understood of what was going on.

Rumi was a happy-go-lucky child in that way, he didn't favour talking, which gave him a special place in Lan Zhan's heart anyway, but he was a naturally quiet baby, intelligent in his own right.

Lan Zhan was so proud of him, both for protecting himself and his sister in the Witch's home. He had been surprised but comforted that Rumi had taken the initiative and ripped out that woman's throat. Given that he was only five years old, it was a miracle indeed.

Rumi was full of surprises, and Lan Zhan was relieved that he had a home and food to eat on a daily basis.

The Universe had gifted them this child for a reason, and he believed that the future would reveal it by itself. Until then, and even afterwards, they would continue to care for him as long as he wanted them.

Li XiWang was just as protective over him as they were, also something else wonderful to see. She didn't seem to be as lonely as she used to be, and Rumi was flourishing under her care.

Love was something that grew and grew and grew, a gift that kept on giving.

As long as he had his family, nothing else mattered.
