Chapter 7 Banquet

Kedou tapped Wei Ying on his shoulder.

"I think he's here for you. It's a messenger from the Crystal City."

Wei Ying kept his arm around Shui and turned to face the newcomer.

This person wore a rainbow uniform, to represent the seven colours of the Sea Dragon Kings. He bowed in greeting.

"My Lord, the First Dragon King of the Sea, Daden De Long, requests your presence at the Crystal Palace."

Wei Ying bowed back out of courtesy. Shui held on to him tightly, desperation in his eyes.

"Don't go." He said, tears gathering in his eyes as they plopped to the floor in fully formed pearls.

"Why don't you come with us?" Wei Ying was hit with a sudden flash of inspiration. "Then we can still be together."

Shui pondered this and reached for his hand.

"Go?"

Wei Ying smiled at him tenderly.

"Yes, we can go."

They swam together to the entrance of the Jiaoren Palace, where Jiang Cheng was already rolling his eyes, while XiChen wore a polite, tight smile, as Shiyong Fei was giving them an indepth talk on how his Palace had been constructed, down to the exact hour and minute.

As soon as Jiang Cheng saw Wei Ying, he began making chopping gestures around his own neck, signalling that he wanted to leave as soon as possible, which Shui caught sight of and began to imitate openly, until both brothers saw him and Wei Ying had to catch hold of his hand and restrain it so nobody would understand.

"Why don't you join us as well?" Wei Ying invited the King, to which Jiang Cheng became even more animated and frantically gestured a clear 'no' and 'I'm going to kill you if he says yes' look, which Wei Ying was able to ignore perfectly, turning his body away. But he felt bad for XiChen, especially when the King turned excitedly to him.

"Oh, what a wonderful idea! Then, I'll be able to fill you in on the historical advances our people made in perfecting coral as a building material, it's so fascinating to outsiders. You know we don't get many visitors here, and I don't get the chance to find such grateful ears as yours." He rubbed his hands gleefully in delight.

XiChen smiled painfully at him.

"That's cos they died of boredom!" Jiang Cheng shoved Wei Ying as hard as he could, when he got the chance. "Not many visitors?? Is he kidding?"

Shui frowned at him and he backed off, scowling.

"This is not finished, Wei WuXian. We are not done!" He swam off to encourage his husband.

The Crystal City of the Seven Dragon Kings rose up out of the water, clear and shining as the sunlight hit its hard surface.

All the buildings were made from crystal, hence its name, but even more resplendent was the Palace itself, looming over the other dwellings. Tall and proud, its turrets shone with a magical glow, almost blinding when the sun hit it just so.

Just past the massive gates, fourteen members of the Royal family stood waiting for them, still in their Dragon forms.

Majestically beautiful, these beasts were gorgeous. Just one had the ability to inspire awe and wonder, but there were no less than fourteen Celestial beings ready to greet them.

They all bowed to each other in greeting, and if any of the dragons were surprised at the extra guests, they didn't say anything.

"I guess relations have really improved." Wei Ying happened to remark.

"Yes, it is lovely, living in peace." Kedou replied, having heard his comment. "It's all thanks to you, you found Shui, and really, his disappearance was the sole reason for our enmity. There was no reason we had to harbour any ill will towards the Dragons after their innocence was proven."

"Young Master, we have prepared a banquet in your honour, if you will allow us." Daden De Long requested.

Wei Ying looked over to Lan Zhan, who shrugged.

The action was so unlike him, Wei Ying laughed, accidentally swallowing seawater.

"I have a question though..." He vaguely heard Jin Ling ask SiZhui.

They were swimming now, following the Dragon family inside the Palace.

"Do they need to...you know...relieve themselves? And if so...where exactly?" Jin Ling was still talking, despite SiZhui's attempts to shush him.

Wei Ying turned to his nephew with a wicked grin.

"That's why it's salty." He gestured to the surrounding water.

Jin Ling went visibly green.

Jiang Cheng laughed at him.

"You're so gullible!" Clapping him on his back.

"Who says I'm joking?" Wei Ying swam ahead, knowing the look on his brother's face. He didn't allow himself to laugh until he reached an indulgent Lan Zhan who was looking at him fondly.

They were led further inside the Palace, where even Li XiWang had not been before. The back wall of the Palace was completely open, and the dragons swam straight towards a gaping hole in the craggy stone wall, where darkness awaited them.

Once everyone had entered, Daden De Long flicked his long gigantic tail, and a huge boulder sealed the door. The pressure increased slowly, as the weight of the water bore down on them, but before it became a real problem, another smaller opening was created. All the water flowed out, leaving them soaking but no longer in the sea.

The seven Dragon Kings transformed back into their human forms, along with their consorts and now, everyone walked forward to door sealed with rubber. Daden Yaonu handed Daden De Long a golden key with which he unlocked the gigantic barrier.

"Come." He smiled at his guests. "We have a good surprise for you, and you may rid yourselves of the breathing aid."

Hongse waved her arms and the bubble like globes surrounding their heads disappeared.

Then they followed their hosts into a long glass room. All the walls were made from clear glass, so they could witness marine life without hindrance. Sharks and manta rays swam by, looking disinterested, ignoring them while other sea creatures wondered what they were doing.

There was a long clear table along the centre of the room, already laid out with different dishes. Trays were uncovered as the guests were encouraged to sit down, and there was still space for more people had there been any more. Crystal plates, bowls and glasses awaited, and it was the men of the family who served the food and poured the wine.

"It is custom in our family," Daden De Long had answered, when Wei Ying put the question to him. "We do not serve our guests with our servants, because it is an insult to them, and we would not let our consorts do so either, for they are meant to be cherished. The honour of having guests, especially ones as prestigious as yourselves, warrants our service in full."

"It is an unusual custom." Wei Ying had said, and the first Dragon King smiled enigmatically.

Soup was the first course, and many side dishes were served by the time Daden De Long returned to his seat at the head of the table.

"A toast." He raised his glass up.

Wei Ying made sure Lan Zhan's glass was full of green tea.

"To new beginnings, and to prosperity of all present here."

They repeated after him and drank. Then everyone began to eat. Dumplings and noodles were next, and conversation flowed like the wine.

"This is nice. Is it new?" Wei Ying asked, looking up at the tall uneven ceiling of the cave.

"Yes indeed. We found that by coming here in our Dragon forms, scared the wildlife away. Being the single biggest predator here, aside from a few exceptions, it was easier to visit in our human forms. And what better way to watch nature and eat at the same time?" Daden De Long  replied.

"I like it." Wei Ying eyed the bottles of chilli oil.

"Are they not to your liking?" Their host asked, anxiously.

"They are, they are!" Wei Ying smiled politely. "They're great." He opened one and slathered it all over his food.

Lan Zhan stared at his plate before his gaze returned to his own.

"Actually, I do have something to ask you." Wei Ying shovelled a mouthful of food in.

"Of course, Young Master. If it is within our power to answer you, it will be our pleasure."

"Great! Then do you know of a cure for loss of memory?" He asked.
