Chapter 153 Chest
They looked towards the door where a glowering Hui Gai was standing behind a terrified Jiang Cheng, inching towards Wei Ying.
"I knocked by accident! I didn't know I would be disturbing anyone!" And then he scowled at his brother, poking him in the chest. "If you two could keep your hands off each other, for five minutes..."
"Hey, chill man. Did you finish going through XiChen-Ge's stuff?" Wei Ying linked his arm through Lan Zhan’s and they sauntered out.
"Yeah..." Jiang Cheng wouldn't meet their eyes. "Anyway...let's see what your giant friend has given us."
They followed him and Hui Gai out, Hui Gai still scowling at Jiang Cheng. He made repeated and open attempts to trip up the Jiang Sect Leader and it was only through vigilance that Jiang Cheng didn't end up on his face.
XiChen was waiting for them in the central chamber, having moved things out of the way.
"Do you think this much space is enough?" He asked, trying to judge the correct size of a cottage.
"Let's find out." Wei Ying winked at Lan Zhan, who stumbled, tripping up over his own foot.
Hui Gai lifted his hands up, mouthing to Wei Ying: "it wasn’t me!"
Wei Ying patted his back and smiled.
"Alright, let's show them what you can do."
Hui Gai tossed the tiny chest into the air and closed his eyes, imagining himself to be bigger, taller and stronger than the chest...and when he opened his eyes, he was towering over everyone.
To him, his friends and the Lan Clan Leader looked tiny, so far away from him.
"How do you like me now?" He called out to Jiang Cheng, laughing as his voice echoed around them, bouncing off the walls.
"That was amazing!" Wei Ying enthused, shouting up at him. "Now, please open the chest!"
Hui Gai gave him a thumbs up sign and threw open the bolts of the chest which had resumed its huge size. He stuck his hand inside and pulled out a hand full of colourful stones, all diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds with a few pieces of Amber thrown in.
To him, they were the size of pin heads, but to the cultivators down below, each gem was the size of their faces. Hui Gai put a pile of these stones onto the ground, so XiChen and the others could see what they looked like.
Jiang Cheng gave a low whistle.
"That's...pretty generous of him, I'd say."
"I know, right?" Wei Ying twirled Chenqing absent-mindedly. "I was thinking, that kind of wealth...it would be enough to feed entire villages for a year in drought season."
"That's a good idea, A-Xian. I shall put it forward at the next meeting. After all, what is the use of all this money if we do not use it for the good of the people under our protection?" XiChen was smiling at his husband too, but he was wondering why Jiang Cheng was looking shifty eyed.
"We have a system in place in Lotus Pier. I can outline a plan for here too, based on what we found to work back home." Jiang Cheng was saying.
Hui Gai returned to his original size.
"I want to check up on Oge and Klem...and the blip." He told Wei Ying proudly.
"Blip?" Wei Ying giggled. "Is that what you're going to call my niece or nephew?"
"Oge started it." Hui Gai replied defensively, but he was smiling. "It kind of stuck..."
"Give them our best wishes and tell them we would like them to visit as and when Oge feels up to it. We can even baby sit for you guys!" Wei Ying beamed at him.
Lan Zhan tried to muster up some kind of enthusiasm at that while Jiang Cheng looked horrified. Even XiChen looked a little green at the thought of little Klem and her gas problem...
"I will!" Hui Gai grinned a little too much, and vanished.
"Shall we go and see Uncle Qiren now?" XiChen asked, taking Jiang Cheng's hand and picking up a Ruby from the ground to show him.
"Yes, let's do that!" Wei Ying said, happily leaning against his husband.
Lan Zhan swung him into his arms, scowling when it looked like both Jiang Cheng and Wei Ying would protest, while XiChen looked on, fondly.
"Wei Ying promised. Wei Ying said, I could carry him as much as I liked when we got home..." Lan Zhan said, providing hard evidence. And then he pouted.
"I did, I did!" Wei Ying couldn’t resist and kissed his beautiful lips. "Alright, I can't be upset at you anyway, you're so sweet to me." He declared, louder over the sound of gagging noises in front of them.
Lan Zhan looked a little mollified.
"But my love...I want to ask you something..." Wei Ying wrapped his arms around Lan Zhan’s neck more securely.
"Mn?"
"Well, back there," He jerked his thumb behind them as they left the vaults. "You looked a bit funny and I just...I wanted to know why."
Lan Zhan looked into his beautiful face, seeing nothing but genuine curiosity shining in those starlight eyes, silver and brighter than any jewels they had left behind.
"I thought..."
Wei Ying watched the gradual deepening of his red ears and wondered what he was embarrassed about.
"What did you think, my love?" He asked softly, turning Lan Zhan’s face back towards him.
"That it wasn’t enough. Not for my Wei Ying..." Lan Zhan finished, his amber eyes darker somehow.
"Not...enough?" Wei Ying was dumbfounded. "Really? That's what you thought?"
"Mn."
"You fuddy-duddy!" Wei Ying smacked his arm lightly when he realised Lan Zhan was absolutely serious. "Then you're right. It's not enough." He admitted, keeping his face straight.
"I know!" Lan Zhan agreed, in a woeful tone, already thinking of ways he could earn more money.
"Not enough to feed the whole of China, not enough to buy ice cream for the whole country! Humph!" Wei Ying pouted now, sullenly looking at his hands in his lap. "Honestly...sometimes I wonder why they call you the smartest Lan...really?" He continued to mutter under his breath, all the way to Uncle Qiren’s place.
