Chapter 33
I was sat in my living room with a book in hand, cuddling into the blanket I had draped over me. There was no sound but faint nose from the fan above me. It felt empty, but it wasn't a terrible thing. A little peace and quiet never hurt anyone.
The past week and a half had dragged on, probably since I had built my hopes up to see my mom, but she had actually postponed it so there wasn't anything to look forward to besides the new job I received and the few times Cas had come over.
Cas was a very interesting person, I guess you could say. He was a bit weird and a bit too giddy for my liking, but he really was great. He did made my first week here bearable and enjoyable. You could tell he came from a good family. He was extremely well mannered when out in public and let loose when it was just us or his friends. I hadn't learned too deep about his life, nothing like I had learned about Michael, at least.
I shut my book as my thoughts were now getting too crowded and I couldn't focus on the words I was just blankly scanning over and over again. It was around 5pm which was when Cas said he got off work and was bringing over the best pizza in town. Even though he wasn't from around this area, it was obvious he had already explored every inch of it.
I pulled myself from the couch and stretched out my arms. I was feeling quite lazy today and there was no denying that. I eventually made my way to my room, throwing on somewhat acceptable clothes. I didn't think presenting myself in my pajamas to a person I've know for less than 2 weeks was very etiquette, so I settled for my normal jeans and a t-shirt.
My messy hair was rebraided and left to hangover my right shoulder with was also a norm for me. As if on queue, I heard the doorbell ring just as I finished on the last of my mascara.
"Just a second!" I yelled out. The possibility of him not hearing me was extremely high since my room was away from the front door. I leaned back away from the mirror, smoothing down my hair and clothes. As I ran to the door, he had rang the doorbell once more, telling me he wasn't a patient one.
"Hi." I said shortly as I had been somewhat out of breath from sprinting to the door. He gave me his signature smirk, beaming his perfect white teeth at me. Even as a guy he was intimidating to me, if he was a girl I would probably steer clear in hopes of me not insulting them with my own looks.
"Evening." He replied. "I've actually got to run by my house real fast and I wanted to drop these off first." His arms held out a small box of pizza, which I implied was for us, obviously. "You can come if you want." He insisted, shrugging his shoulders.
"Why not?" I asked rhetorically. I scurried to the kitchen, placing the warm box down on the counter then going back to my front door.
"I'm not in any hurry." He politely said, shaking his head slightly as he still smiled. He gestured for me to come out and I followed him as he walked right by my side. We made small talk and kept a small conversation going as we made out way across the street. It was impeccable how well he was at keeping things going.
Since he had literally lived across the street from me, the walk was very short and we were already on his front porch. He unlocked his front door that was nearly all glass and let me step inside first. I looked up and around, noticing that the layout of the home was very similar to mine.
"This is so weird." I muttered to myself.
"What's weird?" He called from behind me. I turned around to see him already walking towards me. He passed me and waved me to follow him.
"Oh, it's just that your place looks like mine." I let out a gentle laugh, walking down the similar long hallway to the downstairs bedroom. I noticed he had up pictures of his family along the walls that he has painted red. I has taken notice in how they all looked the same with their glimmering eyes and perfect smiles. I smiled lightly to myself, wondering how nice it would've been to have such a normal family. But it would probably get boring I would think, my mother and I are basically crazy and it makes life a bit more livable.
He turned into the bedroom where I hesitantly stepped into as I wasn't to easy about being in this kids bedroom alone with him. I know he probably wouldn't pull anything, he didn't seem like the guy to do so. I watched him as he fumbled around the drawers in his desk, mumbling a few things to himself I couldn't understand. He glanced over his shoulder at me then focused back on finding whatever it is he needed.
"You can sit down, I don't really mind." He spoke. I nodded once then shuffled towards his bed, sitting down rather awkwardly and swinging my legs off the sit like a little kid. Suddenly the image of Michael sitting between my knees came into my head, I had missed the rush of him sneaking into my room to be honest. I shook off the thought and automatically felt guilty. I got onto my feet once again, ready to make my way out from the silence in the room.
"I'm going to get a bottle of water." I improvised, fiddling with the pocket on the front of my jeans. He straightened himself back up and held what looked like lanyard in his hands.
"I'll come with you." He suggested. He held up the black object that was indeed a lanyard with a few keys at the bottom. "Found what I needed." He chuckled. I gave him a small smile then turned back around, leading myself out first. Just as I stepped into the doorway I felt his hand rest on the small of my back, pushing me out ever so lightly. I flinched from the touch as I wasn't expecting it. Luckily, he had had dropped his hand right after we both got through and back into the kitchen.
My heart was beating a bit faster, not because I was completely swooning over him, but because I felt nervous that he was going to try to pull some move on me. Don't get me wrong, Cas is a wonderful guy and is extremely easy on the eyes, but I could never do that to Michael. Michael was the only boy I had eyes for and it was going to stay that way.
"Bottom drawer." He nodded towards the bottom of the open fridge I had just opened. I pulled it open, grabbing the plastic bottles then shut it right after as I didn't like the cold that was seeping into my skin. I closed the door slowly, taking notice at the few pictures he had pinned to the fridge.
There was one with what looked like his mother, then a few postcards from all over the world, then a picture of him with a blonde boy with bright blue eyes, someone he was obviously not related to, as they were near opposites. They were pulling some ridiculous faces with Cas' brother at what looked like a night club and I began to wonder who the guy was.
"Is the blonde boy your cousin or...?" I asked, peering over at him and pointing to the picture. He squinted at the picture, then cleared his throat.
"Boyfriend, actually." I was taken back by his answer, I would've never thought that in a million years that he would've been gay. It was quite a surprise, but the more I thought about it, the more it began to make sense.
"Oh." I said, letting my voice become a bit more high pitched. I then began laughing to myself at the thought that we was actually going to try to make a move on me and he caught on to my laughter rather quickly.
"What's so funny?" He questioned, letting his own laugh slip out. I trailed over to him, giving him a water then sitting down myself.
"If I'm going to be honest, I thought you were coming onto me." I laughed once more, covering my face with my hands to hide my embarrassed face from what I had just confessed to him.
"It's alright." He assured. "A lot of girls do. I think it's just because they're not used to guys being polite to them, which is kind of sad." He raised his eyes brows at his point, which I actually agreed with. It was a shame that so many girls got walked all over constantly and luckily for me, I was not one of them.
"I get what you mean." I agreed as I took a sip of my drink. I wasn't very thirsty, but then again I had come into the kitchen in the first place since I was nervous about being in Cas' room with just us, which now sounds silly.
"That pizza's still at your place, isn't it?" He stood up which indicated he had answered his own question. I let my palm hit my forehead at the idiotic mistake.
"Yeah." I chuckled, standing up and following him.
"Well lets get back over there then!" He exclaimed, grabbing my arm and pulling me out of his house.
He had ran across the street, leaving me behind him. He had a sudden burst of energy which was normal for him. After all, I didn't see the reason not to. Who wouldn't run for pizza?
This time he had gotten into the house before me, going right for the food. I followed him right after since I had caught up and sat myself right next to him. He opened the box and grabbed a slice as I made my way over to the cabinets.
"Would you like an actual plate instead of your hands?" I snickered, handing him a plate.
"I prefer not, but thank you anyways." He joked. I sat down next to him, throwing questions at him about his boyfriend and basically how it all happened. I always loved getting to know people. I was one that liked little unknown facts and secrets and I was getting a million thrown at me at once.
I learned that Cas has been dating a boy named Ryan since he graduated high school, which is where I'm at right now. Ryan loves travelling all around the world as Cas likes to stay home and is a bit afraid of planes too, and that Ryan is currently in France. They seemed like a picture perfect couple which I wasn't surprised at.
In the middle of conversation about my own friends, I heard rather loud beeps coming from outside my house. They sounded like beeps from trucks whenever they backed up, which I was curious as to why there was even a truck in front of my house.
"Hold that thought." I stopped and headed towards the window that faced the driveway. I pulled back the curtain and to my surprise, there was a moving van sitting out front. I let the curtains fall back in place and went back over to Cas.
"There's moving truck here." I explained. "I thought they were showing up in 3 days when my mom got here. And when it wasn't 6pm." I said, still confused. It was weird that they showed up before my mom, but then again she had delayed her own date of coming out here so I guess it was just me who was going to be moving everything in with the dude driving the machine.
"Are you going to need an extra hand? You know, since six hands will work faster than four." He insisted. I opened my mouth to answer, but was cut off by a few knocks at the door. I groaned as a sudden wave of stress came over me. The knocks followed shortly after once again.
"This guy is persistent." I called over my shoulder to Cas as I wandered across my house yet again. I was now in front on my door and gripping the handle and I let out a deep yet short breath. I was never too good around meeting people for the first time, I guess I was always afraid of a bad first impression.
I turned the knob and finally opened the door, ready to greet the man who was helping with unloading. But to my complete and utter surprise, I was rather greeted by Michael Clifford himself.
