Life wasn't designed for simple handmaids like Hope, but she tried to make the most of it.

All she had ever known was Wysteria, a small country residing to the east of Narnia. Hope had many words to describe Wysteria. It was quaint and small, not to mention it was home. Most of all, it was dying.

Yes, Wysteria had been withering away for the past few decades. It all started many years ago when the people of Wysteria lost faith in the majestic, Aslan. Without belief in the wondrous lion, his magic and good fortune would no longer benefit the land. Although there were some who still believed in him, it wasn't enough, and as a result, the kingdom dawdled into a massive depression that would soon lead to Wysteria's demise.

Hope's days were simple and often tedious, but never boring. How could they be when she was the lucky lady-in-waiting to Wysteria's princess, Princess Odette? But even in such a fortuitous position as the princess's best friend, Hope feared the day Wysteria finally crumbled.

When Princess Odette's 18th birthday and her coronation as Queen was only two months away, the King and Queen of Wysteria decided this was their chance to save the kingdom. They reached out to their long-term allies in Narnia and proposed an arranged marriage between one of their kings and Princess Odette. This marriage would unify Narnia and Wysteria as one and hopefully save the dying kingdom before it faded away completely.

It took some time, but High King Peter of Narnia was eventually able to convince his little brother to agree to the arranged marriage. There was only one problem.

King Edmund hadn't been intending on falling for the princess's handmaid in the process.
