There I was

Sitting the first day

Of the workshop

Then my name

Came from the Dean

What?

What did I do?

I just got here

In a room of

50 something people

I was asked

To walk to the front

There waiting

Being held by the Dean

The award

I received a scholarship

Last month

Didn't think much of it

As I've received them before

But this

This stunned me

Completely

Humbled

Honored

Proud

Multiple emotions

Coursing through my system

The first tangible thought

In my head

My fellow spoonies

How I wish they

Were all there that moment

Because I'm their

Beacon of hope

The award

Was my accomplishment

Yes

But it was also

To show

The strength of miracles

How prayer and faith

Even if not religious

Fighting for your life

Paid off

I have decided

To do my dissertation

On the lack of funding

For M.E.

Why that is and

How we can change it

The award

The plaque on the wall

Is my inching forward

It's the recognition

For hard work

What I am

Determined to continue

There's a lot of it

Still to do

I am a warrior

Expect me only

To roar!
