Caribbean Milky Way
Never thought
I could see outer space
Without a telescope
Until last September
I was living
On a 3-floor dive boat
In the Bahamas
The week of my birthday
Scuba diving a huge passion
All day visiting
The world under the sea
But night
I'd go to the top deck
And look up
The stars
In endless abundance
I didn't see it the first night
But the second
Narrowing my eyes
I saw it
Caribbean Milky Way
Stretching eternally
Across the sky
What a miracle
Such a precious sight to behold
In quiet, warm serenity
Surrounded by turquoise silk
Many of those stars
Staring back were no longer alive
But sheer remnants of themselves
Yet I couldn't see that
Being so far away
All I saw was little pinpoints
Of light of our home
Our Galaxy
Whether it was the beginning
Or end of it
Didn't matter
After that
Every night
I'd come
Look up
Seeing my heavenly home
