TWENTY-FIVE
Namjoon carried the stitched and bandaged Taehyung inside, placing him on the counter top.
Yoongi and Hoseok went around the store to grab whatever food was still there, stuffing their bags full.
They also grabbed some food for now, handing each person something to eat.
"I can't believe what just happened." Namjoon said monotonously, staring blankly at Taehyung's figure.
"We had everything under control, we survived so many things. And now this happened. I feel so bad."
Seokjin patted the man's shoulder, "It's not your fault, Joon. Things like this can happen in these circumstances. Taehyung was quick but the walker happened to be quicker.."
It was eerie silent. The boys chewed on their food, no one making any sort of noise.
The breeze from outside brushed past the store, a piece of glass fell to the ground and shattered from the broken window.
Hoseok flinched, looking at the place.
"Where do we stay for the night? It's going to get dark soon. We have food now, and I'm sure there's a faucet around here too, but it isn't safe." Jeongguk spoke up, breaking the silence.
"He's right. Walkers that still have some good senses will be able to smell Taehyung's blood from miles away. Hell, I'm sure some of them are already on their way. We can't stay here. Surely we can rest for an hour or so, but then we really have to get moving again." Seokjin retorted.
"I'm tired of walking." Even Hoseok agreed with Yoongi at this point, speaking up.
"I know. We all are." Jeongguk said, looking at him.
"Where is the nearest bunker now? Are we anywhere near close to it?" Namjoon asked.
Jeongguk fished in his pocket, pulling out the now even more crumbled paper once again.
He laid it flat on the counter, turning his head in multiple ways to figure out where they were at.
"Isn't this where we are at right now?" Hoseok pointed, questioningly.
Jeongguk let out a surprised gasp, "The gas station is on the map! That means that the nearest bunker is about three miles from here!"
He looked back up at the others.
Namjoon mentioned for Jeongguk to come with him for a second. The boy followed him outside.
"We won't be able to reach that in time. It'll be dark, and we'd have to carry Taehyung all the way which will slow us down. That means, that we'd have to find shelter for the night."
Jeongguk nodded at that, biting his lip as he gazed around.
That is, until his eyes started to spark.
"Or maybe we don't. Look!" The youngest jogged in to some direction, Namjoon quickly getting what he intented.
"Holy shit! It's a van! Help me find the key!" Namjoon breathed out with a hopeful look in his eyes, opening the door which was unlocked.
"It's probably not in here. The door was unlocked anyways. Let's not have too much hope."
Jeongguk sat down in the passenger's seat, trying to find the key anywhere. He checked under the seats, in any kind of drawer and up.
Nothing.
He sighed out, shaking his head.
"We could've excepted this." He said with disappointment.
Namjoon groaned, pressing his eyes shut and ruffling his hair.
"Goddamnit."
"Looking for this?" Hoseok walked towards them, shaking the key he held in his hand.
"What the hell?!" Namjoon said wide eyed, grabbing it from him.
"I found it inside the store. From a smaller window I saw you guys, so I immediately grabbed it hoping it w-"
The sound of the engine starting got all of their eyes wide as saucers.
"Holy shit!" Jeongguk said, checking the amount of fuel the van had left.
Luckily we're at a gas station.
"I'll drive it, Hoseok can you fill it up?"
The man nodded, jogging ahead.
Jeongguk sprinted back inside, a wide smile on his lips.
"You won't believe it, but we have a running car. Come on, let's carry Taehyung inside and let's go!" Jeongguk clapped in his hands, the boys gasping and hastily walking outside.
Seokjin and Yoongi carried Taehyung. Namjoon pulled up the van in front of them, stepping outside to open up the side door.
"Do we have everything we need? We aren't forgetting anything, are we?" He made sure, glancing around.
Yoongi counted everyone, Jimin's last disappearing trick still fresh on his mind and everything that came along with it.
"Nope, we're good to go. Let's go then! What are we waiting for?"
Namjoon smiled, shutting the door.
Jeongguk made his way back to the passenger's seat, sitting next to Namjoon.
Once they drove off, Jeongguk couldn't help but exhale loudly. A bit of weight falling off his shoulders.
"According to the map, we have to go straight for about two miles. After that, we'll have to take a few turns and eventually we'll have to leave the van behind since it won't be able to reach the bunker. We'll have to go that part on foot."
Namjoon hummed, glancing in the rear view mirror.
"We got this. We got this. For now we'll be okay."
And with that, they kept on driving.
As Namjoon and Jeongguk chatted, Jimin couldn't help but stare at Taehyung's still unmoving body.
"Hey, Jiminie, are you alright?" Hoseok asked worriedly.
He pressed his lips in a thin line, before croaking out, "What if he's gone? What if the virus is spreading within him, and the next thing we know, is that he wakes up as one of them? And brings all of us in danger? I- we can't kill him. We can't kill our friend, my best friend-" Tears welled up in his eyes once again, he looked down whilst shaking his head furiously.
Seokjin glanced at Hoseok, who got the hint.
The man made his way over to Jimin, patting his back.
"I don't think the virus managed to get to him, Jiminie. Other people who got bitten or scratched turned immediately, or after a mere span of a few minutes. It's been half an hour, I think he got really really lucky. Let's hope for the best, alright?" He tried to give him some hope.
Jimin nodded silently, wiping his tears.
