THIRTY
A loud bang made everyone's eyes widen. They could hear Namjoon curse through the walls of the engine, they immediately gripped onto the sides of the van for support.
The van rumbled loudly across the road, the sound of metal scraping on cement made Jeongguk hiss.
The van slowly came to a halt.
It didn't take long before the side door opened, revealing Namjoon with Hoseok.
"The fucking tire died on us. It just exploded! Must've been a nail or something that caused it." He sighed out in frustration.
"Uh, Namjoon?" Hoseok nudged him, hesitantly.
The man looked back, eyes widening.
Their location wasn't exactly ideal, especially not in a scenario like this.
The boys could only watch as one walker turned into five.
Five turned into eight, and eight turned into more than twelve way too quickly for their own sakes.
"Fuck!" Yoongi said breathlessly, he glanced at Taehyung, eyeing his leg. "There's no way you can run with that. Hell, I still can't even run with full speed because of my ankle but it's not anywhere as bad as your situation. I can pull myself through it, but you on the other hand-"
"-What do we do?! We have to come up with something, and quick! We can't run and we can't hide!" Seokjin whisper-yelled, even though that didn't really matter anymore.
It was silent.
It was silent, and it shouldn't be silent. They should be contemplating ideas like they always do, but now all that seemed to happen was glancing at one another and their fate that was nearing hastily if they didn't come up with something, and fast.
"Are we going to die? We're going to die after all, aren't we?" Jimin's broken voice from the back made Jeongguk's heart twist in pain. He looked at him.
The boy's eyes welled up with tears as he looked back at the dark haired male.
"I don't want to die.." He croaked out, voice cracking on every single syllable.
"Oh, Jiminie.." Taehyung pulled him in a hug, his heart racing. "I don't want to die either. We aren't going to die, okay? We aren't going to die just yet."
But who was he kidding?
Who was he trying to reassure?
They all knew deep down that there was practically nothing they could do.
They could shoot a few of those bastards, but that'll only cause more of them to be allured towards them.
They didn't have a spare tire, so they couldn't get away. On foot some of them could, but it was out of the picture since there was no way they'd leave Taehyung behind.
"Jeongguk, how about we climb on top of the van and hold them off for as long as we can whilst the others try and make a run for it?"
Jeongguk nodded, they had to try something.
He moved forward, stepping out of the van. His breath got stuck in his throat once he looked around.
They were in a rather open place, a few buildings in the farest distance from them. It was in view, but they were so far away they were nearly dots in Jeongguk's vision.
The chances of being able to hold the walkers off long enough until the others reached the buildings were slim. Namjoon and Jeongguk needed to be able to reach it too, and they'd have to defend themselves.
With what? If they'd keep the walkers off for the others, they would run out of bullets before they would have the chance to make a run for it themselves.
Everything seemed hopeless.
Everything was fucking hopeless.
But they didn't want to sit around and greet the walkers with open arms accepting death, or, becoming one of them- they didn't want to die.
But in a wierd way, death was the best option they had in the end.
Looking at those things, the way they looked, acted, moved, sounded- what they did, everything made death look like a gift.
"Jeongguk!" Namjoon shook the boy, he flinched back into reality.
The broader man stuck his hand down, Jeongguk grasped it and with the other's help he climbed on the van too.
His hands reached for his sniper, he nodded at Namjoon who gave a small smile back.
The youngest looked through the scope, aiming it at one of the first creatures.
His finger danced on the trigger.
He pulled it.
The only thing Jeongguk could hear was the sound of his heart beating inside of his chest.
The first bullet rocketed through the air, going straight for the zombie's head.
It dropped dead.
Some of the other walkers stood and watched it happen, only getting more aggrevated.
They opened their mouths, screeching, hissing, releasing sounds that would haunt everyone -even if everything would work out in the end- in their nightmares.
If everything would work out.
They kept on shooting together. One after another dropped dead, but one after another kept appearing from no where.
The other men stumbled out of the van. Seokjin and Hoseok helped supporting Taehyung who only had one leg that functioned properly at the moment.
Jimin ran after them, sticking close to his best friend's side. He looked back, glancing at Jeongguk for what might be the last time.
His heart shattered because of multiple reasons. It dropped down to his stomach, tears streaming down his cheeks.
He shook his head, continuing to run.
If he didn't do that, and if they didn't take their chances all together, there would be no one to love anyway.
Jimin couldn't fall in love with the idea of Jeongguk's dead corpse, or whatever alternative there was.
He just wanted him alive and well. Just like himself, and all the others.
Yoongi stopped trying to run. He watched as the other boys kept on going, trying to make it to the buildings for shelter, some place to hide and get away from this unfortunate event.
He sighed, remembering his own words.
With that, he ran into the opposite direction, back to Jeongguk and Namjoon.
He climbed on top of the van, shocking the other two.
"Yoongi?! What the hell are you doing?! Go after the others!" Namjoon yelled, shaking his head furiously whilst he still tried to shoot.
"Remember what I once said?" He started, pulling out his own gun.
Both Namjoon and Jeongguk scrunched their eyebrows.
"Probably not, but it doesn't matter. The only thing that matters, is that three guns are always better than two." And with that, he started shooting aswell, backing them up.
This continued for a while, the dead bodies piled up in the distance.
Jeongguk glanced back, reloading his gun after Namjoon had the opportunity to.
"Fuck.." He muttered, seeing walkers appear from behind them, too.
They were surrounded.
There was nothing they could do.
The boy feared the worst.
