Chapter two

Riolu could be heard screaming in mirth as they ran around, seeming to have more energy than normal, as Jaxisco, and Zorrie entered the Main Field, decorations were already in place, lighting the clearing as the sun set, painting the area with rich yellow light. "Zorrie! You arrived just in time!" a voice called, making both turned as Zorrie smiled, "Daiscca!" Zorrie greeted, the other female wrapping her in a friendly embrace. "About time you got here! We could use those berries very much! Jaxisco, could you be a dear and place them by the cooking fires?" Daiscca asked, gaining a nod from Jaxisco as well as a smile as he did what she asked.

The delicious smell of cooking meat and the scent of mashed berries filled the air, as Jaxisco deposited the baskets he was asked. "Jaxisco?" a voice asked, Jaxisco startled, making him jump before he turned around, a deep blush on his face. "What are you doing here? I thought the cooking was left to the females?" a Lucario said, her soft voice conveying a joking tone as she looked at them, a smile on her face, her unusual eyes looking in Jaxisco's gently. "Hey, Sarasha. I was just dropping these off for Zorrie while she talked with Daiscca," Jaxisco signed, getting a nod from his friend. "So, are you ready for the festival?" Sarasha asked while picking up a small bowl, filling it with Oran berries, she tossed one to him with a wink. "So-so," Jaxisco signed, catching the berry in his mouth, he ate fruit, after giving his thanks he asked. "Are you?" signed Jaxisco, getting his friend to shake her head with a sigh. "Mother says I must change after I am finished helping with the cooking," Sarasha replied. "Okay. I bet you will look beautiful," Jaxisco signed, blushing a little from what he just told her, a small smile appeared on Sarasha's muzzle. "Going to dance with the pups again this year? I must admit, last years dance was quite graceful, and the song was amazing," Sarasha complimented, making Jaxisco smile with an embarrassed shrug, remembering the dance he and the pups had made, the lyrics were all the pups work.

"Hey, Jaxisco?" Sarasha asked, making Jaxisco stop before he could leave after a few minutes of conversation. "Yes?" Jaxisco asked with a gesture, turning back to look at her over his shoulder. "Do you... have a partner for the dance this year?" Sarasha asked, a small blush covering her muzzle, surprising Jaxisco quite badly. "Um, no I do not. Why do you ask?" Jaxisco asked her in turn, looking at her with his head tilted a little, one ear bent slightly. "N-no reason!" Sarasha said, running away from Jaxisco, leaving him confused.

Shrugging his shoulders, he wandered off, looking for Haxicco amongst his tribe. "Your brother is with the huntsmen," a wise voice spoke, his voice light but deep. Jaxisco was not surprised to see the chief standing beside him. "Chief Leirrox," Jaxisco signed, nodding to the chief respectfully, he looked up to the taller Lucario... literally. "Jaxisco, have you thought about your place in the tribe? We all have a part here, as I am quite sure you well know by now," the Cheiftan said, gaining a thoughtful nod from Jaxisco. "Zorrie said that you seem to be handy with weaving; perhaps that would suffice?" Leirrox suggested getting a playful eye roll from Jaxisco. "I haven't decided yet; there is so much I can do to help aid the tribe," Jaxisco replied. "That may be true, but decide soon," Chief Leirrox told him, getting another nod from Jaxisco. 'Besides, it was only a minor leak,' Jaxiso thought to himself, remembering that day thoroughly.

-flashback-

Jaxisco tied the leaves together before sticking the bundle between two support beams, the leaves blocking off what little water that was dripping through, jumping down from his post to the ground, he landed softly, dusting off his paws he signed "There you go; the leak is fixed now oh" he added as an afterthought," I also supported the left side a little with a few extra leaves; it looked a little weak," Jaxisco told Zorrie, an eyebrow raised towards her adoptive son. "Jaxisco, there was a hole in the roof- and not a small one either! The left side was all but torn to shreds!" Zorrie had told him but Jaxisco just shrugged his shoulders. "No disrespect, but it was an easy fix," Jaxisco signed, shaking a little and sending water flying everywhere. "Do you know who else needs my help?" Jaxisco then asked almost excitedly.

-end flashback-

"Oh, chief?" Jaxisco asked, getting his attention with a tap on his shoulder. "Can I ask you something... about my parents?" Jaxisco asked nervously, one paw holding an elbow. Leirrox looked at him and nodded, waiting silently. "I... what did my parents do? Maybe I can remember them better by doing what they did," Jaxisco said, explaining himself quickly. Leirrox looked thoughtful, closing his eyes in concentration. "Well, your father was an excellent hunter; prey never escaped with him on the trail, While Your mother was a wonderful crafter; her crafts were widely Known masterpieces amongst us and the other tribes," Leirrox told him, making Jaxisco smile before he nodded. "Thank you, Chief," Jaxisco signed.

Right when he was about to turn away, he felt a paw on his shoulders. "Jaxisco. Don't let your parent's past affect your own, you are your own person; you must make your own choices," Leiroxx said, making Jaxisco stop for a second before he nodded again, smiling to his chief. "Now, go find your brother; the festival will begin soon," Leiroxx told him, getting yet another nod from Jaxisco. As Jaxisco ran off, unaware that his leader was watching him go with a fond smile. "Oh Jaxisco, what are we going to do with you when the time comes?" he spoke to himself, shaking his head before walking to his hut, he had preparations to do for the festival himself.

Jaxisco had found his adoptive brother outside the huntsmen hut, Haxxico was talking with one of the other hunters, a worried look on his face. "We need to set up sky patrol, watch out for any of those heathens," Haxxico said in a low voice as Jaxisco approached them. "What's going on?" Jaxisco asked him when the other hunters left, not liking that look in Haxxico's eyes. "Nothing, nothing's wrong, The hunters and I can handle it," Haxxico told him, clearly not wanting to continue the conversation. Jaxisco reached out and grabbed Haxxico's shoulder with his paw, holding it tight, squeezing hard enough to catch his attention.

"Haxxico, tell me what is going on before I go get the Chief," Jaxisco threatened his brother, staring him dead in the eye. That was when he felt it; the anxiety in Haxxico's aura, the fear of what he had just discovered.

"Haxxico... what happened?"

Cliffhanger! Do you all think it is a little early? Put it in a comment and let me know!

Till next time,
