Chapter 11
Tonks made her way back to her apartment which she shared with three other people, sipping a cup of hot chocolate as she merrily walked in. They set up their two room (and extremely small) apartment with two beds in one bedroom, and two more in the other. She pushed the door into her room, as watched as one of her roommates, Penny Haywood, clean her chemistry bottles.
She sat down on her bed, cross legged, as she sipping her hot chocolate gingerly. She loved going to the coffee shop. This time, she had interesting debate with Remus about the genetics in fantasy worlds. He always made her smile as she walked in, already making a cup of hot chocolate. She found herself thinking of his beautiful amber colored eyes that twinkled every time she walked through the doors.
Penny must've caught Tonks' smile, because her roommate smirked at her.
Penny was a sweet girl, with blond hair always tucked in braids and kind blue eyes that made her one of the prettiest and most popular girls in their college. Unlike the cliche popular girls, she was one of the kindest and most adventurous people Tonks had ever met.
Since she was also taking a course in health, Tonks had met her and they'd become friends almost instantly.
"I hope you got me a coffee this time." Penny said simply, not looking up from her cleaning.
"Unfortunately no," Tonks answered with a smile, "But this one was free."
Her roommate rolled her eyes, "I heard you were invited to that Halloween party."
"Which one?"
"The one your boss' friend throws every year."
"Penny, I never go to a Halloween party."
"But you should!" a voice said from the doorway, "I can make you a costume for it."
Her other roommates appeared at the doorway. Elizabeth Tuttle, or just Liz, smiled at her, pushing her wide round glasses as she did so. Liz was dark skinned, with very fiery and short hair she kept in a ponytail. Badeea Ali, wearing a starry night hijab and paint covered clothes, grinned as she seemed to be thinking of ideas for a costume. She had tan skin with warm brown eyes.
"I also heard that Charlie was going to be there." Penny added with a teasing smile.
"For the last time," Tonks glared at the girl, "I don't like him like that."
"But Badeea could make you a really pretty costume. Like a chameleon." Liz cried out excited as she hopped on Tonks' bed. (She got the bottom bunk.)
"A chameleon wouldn't be my first choice." Badeea said softly, holding a paintbrush, "Maybe a bird."
"I'm not planning on going." Tonks glared at her friends, "And its Beauty and the Beast themed. Lily also said that you guys could come too."
"Oh you're so going." Badeea smirked, "I'm looking forward to making your costume."
Tonks found herself groaning as Badeea dragged her by the wrists into her room. Penny and Liz followed, giggling. She forced Tonks to stay absolutely still while she took her measurements with a measuring tape. She watched, her eyes wide with fear, as Badeea pulled out a roll of golden silk.
"It'll be ready in a few days or so. Now, can you go get me a few coffees?" her roommate smirked, "I'm prepared to work up late."
~oOo~
Lily found herself furiously banging on Marlene's door at around 7:00 at night, her face red with anger. She was dressed warmly, with a jacket and a scarf on, but what made her warmest was her fury. Her best friend opened the door a few moments later, mint blue-green eyes wide with worry.
"Geez Lils, you look a fright."
"Mar, I'll tell you everything." Lily begged, "Please, just let me in."
"Of course." Marlene stepped aside and wrapped her arms around Lily's shoulders.
Marlene's apartment was large, and she often shared it with friends who'd come to call. Mostly Lily, though. It had three bedrooms, a bathroom, and a big living room/dining room, and kitchen. Huge for an apartment. If Lily stayed over, she'd sleep in a guest bedroom.
Marlene made a cup of tea for the both of them, gingerly holding it out to Lily. She took it gratefully, smiling at Marlene.
"So what happened?" she sat down next to her.
"Sev and I had an argument."
"Huh." Marlene utterly simply.
Lily knew she didn't think that they were a good couple. They'd argued for months, then she found herself running back to him. Like she always did. Lily would have liked to disagree with her best friend, but she couldn't help but think the same thing.
"Whatever, I don't wanna talk about him now." Lily tried to smile, "How about the fact that I invited James to the Halloween party?"
"You did!" she squealed, nearly sipping so tea, "What'd he say?"
"I just slipped him a note and told him to call me later."
Suddenly, as if on cue, Lily's phone rang. She thought it would be Severus trying to be her forgiveness. But it wasn't. She glanced at the caller. James. It was for a FaceTime. She smiled and picked it up.
"Hey James!"
"What's up Lily?"
"I'm sorry about earlier."
"Don't worry about it. Anyway, who's your friend?" he grinned at Marlene, who blushed a light pink.
"That's Marlene. Did you read my note?" Lily asked, her eyes wide with anxiety.
"Yeah, and we'd be pleased to go." he smirked.
"We?" she raised an eyebrow, a teasing smile on her face.
James turned the camera to the the people in the room. She spotted Sirius, whom she recognized from the coffee shop. Her jokingly flirted with her many times, after a withering glare from James sent him off. Another she remembered as Peter. She'd never actually have a conversation with him, but he seemed nice enough. Then Remus, still tired looking but with a smile shining on his face. He also seemed to be furiously rubbing hand sanitizer on his hands. They'd waved politely, laughing as they did so.
"Anyway, it's Beauty and the Beast themed right?" James asked.
"Yeah." Marlene answered.
"Dibs on Gaston!" Sirius yelled.
"No, you prat! That's who you were last year, pick a different character!" James screamed back at Sirius.
"Fine!" Sirius grabbed the phone from James, "Oh and my little cousin said she's coming too. I told her that we got invited, and she said she did too and will be bringing her roommates."
"Who's your cousin?" Lily asked, truly curious.
"Oh her nickname's Tonks. I think she works at your bookshop."
Hey everyone! How was your day?
Nearly lost my voice in choir, but I'm good now.
By the way, all of Tonks' roommates are characters from Hogwarts mystery, so I can sorta stick to canon. I hope you enjoy how I'm hoping to portray them.
See ya next time,
Abby
