Chapter 10: Corner

She's out on the corner trying to catch a glimpse; nothing's making sense

Andy's P.O.V.

-One year later-

I sit in my office, staring out the window absently. There is a very important meeting about to happen, and I have no idea what to say. I have to give a speech, and I have no idea on what it is. I drum on my desk, trying to figure out what to say. No words come to mind, just random thoughts swirling around. My eyes land on my pen, sitting on my desk and a sigh escapes my mouth.

Being the CEO of a company is a lot harder than I thought. I thought all they did was yell at their workers and sit around all day. In reality, we have to go to meetings and deal with other CEO's and go to parties with fancy dinners and tight dresses.

After writing a children's book that was sold world-wide, I was basically made the CEO of my own company, where they make and sell the books that I've written, and now my employees write. The books aren't actually made where my office is, this is just where they're written and meetings about sales and things are held. Speaking of, I have to be at a meeting soon.

One of the wonders of being CEO is picking your own breaks whenever you want and doing whatever you want, as you're in charge. I'm seriously debating whether or not to call off the meeting when my secretary, Amber pokes her head in my open door.

"Ma'am, the meeting is about to start," she says.

"Thank you Amber," I say, dismissing her.

She backs out of my office and leaves me in peace. I sigh again and stand up, straightening out my black skirt and walking out of my office. After taking the short walk to the conference room, I enter. Everyone's eyes flick up to me.

"Good morning," I say neutrally. "How are all of you this fine morning?"

There are a couple of replies mumbled back and I ignore them as I sit down at the head of the table. I glance at the clock. The meeting starts at 10:00. It's 9:54. I have six minutes to think of a speech. I've noticed that I do this often, and I really shouldn't. Well, I'm one of the youngest CEO's ever, so this must be expected, especially since I'm new to this.

The clock ticks to ten and I stand up, starting the meeting. Everyone stops talking and gives me their full attention.

"Good morning, welcome to the first meeting of the day, where we will discuss sales," I say, going with my customary greeting. "Before we start officially, anyone have anything to say?"

"You look lovely this morning," a new employee, highly recommended, named Caroline compliments.

"Thank you," I smile at her. "Anyone else?" when no one speaks, I continue. "So, our sales haven't decreased, which is good, but they haven't increased either. We need to get our sales to grow. Anyone have any ideas?"

I sit down and wait for the ideas to come flooding in. The conference room is long, with a table in the middle and floor-to-ceiling windows on one side. It truly is an office room from the movies.

"What if we put more money towards advertizing?" someone proposes.

"We already have money in advertizing," I say. "What do you suggest we do to change our advertisements?"

"We could make a commercial," the same person says. "And put little kids in it, reading, and other things related to your books."

I ponder the idea for a moment. "I'm intrigued. Sketch out a game plan and come see me later. Any other ideas?"

An old employee, one I'm considering firing stands up. I sigh inwardly and prepare for his comment. Mr. Kiggle always has something mean to say, and snide about my leadership abilities. Well, Mr. Killjoy-Kiggle, I've run it fine so far.

"If I may, Ms. Andy-" he starts.

"Ms. Kirsche," I say tightly, correcting him for what seems the millionth time.

"Ms. Kirsche, I'm just wondering if you've thought this through," he says smoothly. "You're just willing to pour money into whatever you want to do. You need to think more carefully."

"I have thought more carefully," I say. "And I think it's a good idea. Why do you not like the idea?"

"It's a bit childish," Mr. Kiggle says. "Just a commercial with children reading? Not even worth watching."

"Sich dich!" I exclaim, standing up.

Mr. Kiggle immediately plants his rear in his chair, looking chastised. It's not often that I speak German, but when I do it's usually when I'm angry.

"I have had enough with you and your snide comments! All you do is say I'm too young or inexperienced or it's a stupid idea! I'm sick of you! If you don't get your act together, I'm going to fire you!" I bang my hand on the table.

I blink when I notice everyone is leaning back in their seats, away from me, looking scared. Beau flashes through my mind, his hand raised, about to hit me. I stagger away from the table, shocked by the memory.

"Meeting adjourned," I mutter and almost flee from the room.

I make it to my office and I shut the door, sinking against it. It's been ages since I've thought of Beau, much less him hitting me. I shudder at the thought. And to think those people in the conference room looked just like I did when I was being screamed at.....

I suppose Beau is part of the reason I'm here, as it was running away from him and Louis that led me here. Louis... another mystery. After sharing a few conversations and a kiss, I ran. I wonder where he is now. We could have been something more but I will never know, as I won't see him again.

Someone knocks on my door, jolting me from my thoughts.

"Ma'am?" a tentative voice asks.

It's Amber. "Yes Amber?"

"May I come in?"

"In a minute!" I call, standing up and adjusting my skirt before opening the door. "Yes?"

Amber looks nervous. "Well, ma'am, are you alright?"

"Never better," I say brightly. "Why do you ask?"

"You ran out of the conference room awfully fast," Amber says quietly. "You seemed startled."

I smile. Amber is so nice. She has a heart of gold. "No, I'm fine. I'll just take the rest of the day off. You know how to reach me."

Amber nods as I gather my things. "Are you sure you're alright? You look rather pale," she asks.

"I'm fine, thank you," I answer. "Good-bye, Amber."

"Have a nice day ma'am," Amber replies.

I walk to the elevator and step into it, pressing the button. I sigh for what seems like the millionth time that day as I wait for the elevator to lower onto my floor. When the door dings and opens, I walk out of my office building and out onto the corner it's located at, trying to call a taxi.

As I'm waving my arm in the air, I notice a familiar face walking on the street. It looks like Louis, only with messier hair and longer hair. I blink, a car passes in front of where I'm looking and he's gone. I turn back to the street, now confused. I never thought I'd see Louis again.

It was probably nothing, I tell myself, but I can't help but glance over there again, trying to see his face one more time.

I know, it's been since June, but I honestly can not find it in me since I've started Letters From Peyton. I just don't want to write fanfiction anymore! I will finish these though, I must! Anyway, I hope you like it, and please vote and comment! I love feedback, and I shall see you all in another two months probably! Bye!
