The Mall Rats Part 2
A few minutes later ......
"Wait, that last part, just one more time"
" Okay"
As Dustin hits play, Robins eyes narrow with concentration. She listens intently to the recording, her finger tapping to the desk.
"Okay, that word"
Robin paced around the room, her mind buzzing with possibilities as she tried to decipher the code. That word it sounded strange yet familiar.
"It's pronounced DLY- NNA - YA Which is spelled."
Robin stopped pacing, her thoughts reading in her head. She snaps her fingers repeatedly... "D, D, D... The chair-looking thingy"
Madison stood up slowly, glancing between Dustin and Robin as they worked through the recording.
"You two continue translating, I'm going to go scoop ice cream with Steve."
Madison stepped out of the room and into the counter. She let out an exhausted sigh.
"It's so hard to translate Russian,"
Max and Eleven approached Scoops Ahoy. Madison gave them a warm smile. Her attention goes to Max, she just nodded in acknowledgment, having her here was a breath of fresh air in this stressful day. She could see that she looked confident. Her gaze shifted to Eleven, and her heart skipped a beat. The last time she interacted with Max she wanted nothing to do with her, but now all of sudden they are best friends shopping at a mall. Is she even allowed to be here? She is caught her super off guard,Madison masked her surprise with a causal smile
"Oh, hey Max, El"
"Hey"
" Hi"
Madison scoops up the strawberry flavor as Steve scoops up Vanilla.
"What are you two up to?"
Max had a grin on her face, like she was excited to show some thing.
"Shopping,"
Max eyes dart back to Eleven, who is standing there, looking a little shy but proud.
"This is her new style, what do you think."
Madison's eyes shift from Max to Eleven, taking in her new look. She tilted her head a bit. The black romper with a colorful abstract pattern, suited her perfectly. She is always wearing a bland t shirt or a cardigan, but today Eleven looked more like herself. Madison's smile grew wider as she nodded in approval. " I like it, it suits you"
Elevens gaze softened at the compliment, her cheeks flushing a bit as she looked down at her outfit. Her attention goes back to Madison with a smile
" Thanks"
The door swings open, and Robin pokes her head out.
"We got our first sentence." She announced
Steve turned around with a vanilla ice cream in his hand.
"Oh seriously,"
Robin flashed a smile before putting on a fake exaggerated Russian accent
"The week is long."
Steve expression shifted to mock serious frown, his eye brows are raised
"Well, that's thrilling,"
Madison turned around with a strawberry ice cream in her hand, she couldn't help but grin slightly.
"Well at least it's something, continue translating."
Madison gaze softened as she passed the ice cream to Max
"Okay here you go, Strawberry. Your favorite."
Steve passed another ice cream cone to Eleven.
"And for you vanilla ice cream, sprinkles, and extra whip cream. "
"Thanks," the girls said in unison
As they licked their ice cream, Steve squinted at Eleven with a sudden thought.
"Wait a second, are you even allowed to be in here?"
Steve watched Max and Eleven exchange a look their eyes lighting up with agreement. Max shook her head with a grin on her face, and ran out of Scoops with Eleven. He rapidly blinked caught completely off guard, he turned to Madison his expression completely confused. "Um OK"
A few hours later...
"The week is long, the silver cat feeds, when blue meets yellow in the west."
Robin grabbed her bag, and they followed her out. Steve locked the door behind him, his keys clicking together in his hands as he made sure that everything was secure for the night
"I mean, it just can't be right." He muttered
"No, it's right," Robin replied back
"Well, I honestly think it's good news,"Dustin said confidently
Steve shoved his keys in his pocket, frustrated. He quickened his pace to catch up with the rest as they walked out of the mall. This was like a riddle he couldn't quite make out
"How is this great news? "I mean, so much for being American heroes."
Madison shrugged as she tried to keep her pace with the group. She could see his point but didn't want to be negative about this whole thing
"Hey, at least they figured it out," she offered a half smile " We just don't know what it means,"
"It's total nonsense," Steve muttered
Dustin slightly smiled, his eyes filled with determination
"It's not nonsense. It's too specific. It's a code. "
Steve furrowed his brows, slowing down his pace as he turned to Dustin
"What do you mean, a code?"
Dustin shrugged. "Like a super-secret spy code."
Steve shook his head, his expression skeptical as he glanced at Dustin.
"That's a total stretch."
Robin turned to face Steve and Madison, "I don't know, is it?"
Steve looked at Robin with a raised eyebrow, disbelief is in his tone
"You're buying into this?"
"Listen just for kicks let's entertain the possibility that it is a secret Russian transmission. What'd you think they were going to say, "Fire the warhead at noon"? Robin explained.
Dustin's eyes lit up as he jumped in
"Exactly" he exclaimed
"And my translation is correct. I know that for sure, so...The silver cat feeds. "Robin paused for a second to think. "Why would anyone talk like that unless they're trying to mask- the meaning of their message?"
" Exactly"
A smile formed on Robin's face as Dustin agreed. "Why would anyone mask the true meaning of their message unless the message was somehow sensitive? So, I guess that confirms your suspicion."
"Evil Russians" Dustin muttered
Robin chuckled and shakes her head. "I can't believe I'm about to agree with this strange child, but, yeah, totally evil Russians."
Dustin started to get more excited
"So how do we crack it?"
Robin adjusted her bag, the strap resting comfortably on her shoulder. "Well, I guess we translate the rest and hopefully a pattern emerges. "
"A pattern. Right, like maybe Silver Cat is a meeting place?"
"Or a person," Robin added on, a smirk forms on her lips
"Or a weapon,"
Madison jumped, startled by the sudden touch on her shoulder. She turned around quickly, Madison caught her breath as she saw Steve standing behind her,He couldn't help but quickly regret it
" Oh I'm sorry did I scare you" his voice full of genuine concern
Madison quickly waved her hands, trying to brush off the sudden nerves.
" Oh no- no it's ok. Do you need anything? "
"A quarter."
Madison furrowed her eyebrows, clearly confused. "A quarter? For what"
Steve eyes lit up like a lightbulb went off in his head
"I have an idea."
She watches Steve walk to the Indiana Flyer; Madison turns her attention to Robin. "Well, it'll probably take a super genius to crack it, but...Where's Steve?"
Robin watched Steve as he fumbled around in his pocket. Robin raised an eyebrow, curiously
"What are you doing?"
"Uh, it's a quarter. I need...Do you have a quarter?"Steve questioned.
"You sure are tall enough for that ride,"Robin teased
Steve didn't want to hear Robin sarcastic remarks. "QUARTER!"
Madison found one in her wallet and threw it at him.
"Nice catch." She said with a smile
"You need help getting up, little Stevie?" Robin called out,
Robin giggled making the two laugh as well.Steve raised his hands, the quarter still clenched in his fist " Shhh, will you three shut up and listen?"
Steve inserts the quarter into the carousel, and it starts to play music. It sounded almost familiar.
"Holy shit, the music"
Dustin takes his bag off and sets it on the floor, playing with the tape.
Robin frowned as she watched the carousel plays the tune
"I don't understand,"
Dustin's eyes widen at the realization
"The music, It's the exact same song on the recording."
Robin tilted her head, eyeing the carousel with raised eyebrows
"Maybe Russia has horses like that."
Steve shook his head. " Indiana Flyer? Robin, I don't think so this code didn't come from Russia,"
He turned to face the rest of the group
"It came from here".
The rest of the group stared at the horse as Daisy Bell played.
