Chapter seven

Chapter seven

Once my pen hit the paper I couldn’t stop writing. I wrote from the moment Theo suggested his ‘adventures of love’ to the end of the pizza making. My hand cramped multiple times, but I didn’t stop, I couldn’t stop. I wanted to get every last detail about what I had seen and talked about with Theo down on paper before I forgot. Just as I put the period on the last sentence my hand let go of the pen. Nothing had felt better than when I gave myself a hand massage. Placing my journal on the bedside table, my phone beeped indicating I had a text. I opened it to find it was from none other than Theo.

Love (n) luhv: passionate affection for another person. Agree or disagree?

            I wrote back.

            Agree.

            He responded back immediately.

And sadly your answer is still wrong, Miss Sitters.

Rolling my eyes, I texted him back

And care to explain this time?

There was an evident time gap before he responded.

It is true that love has to do with the feeling of passion, but it need not be towards someone.

I sat on my bed Indian style contemplating what he had said.  Being passionate towards someone isn’t all what love is about. The sentence didn’t really make until I realized what he was trying to do and so I replied.

Is this your way of dropping hints for our next ‘adventure of love’?

            He replied.

:) Sleep tight, Aurora. Until next time.

I smiled and shook my head. Placing my phone on the bedside table next to my journal, I began to nod off.

The same beeping noise from yesterday had once again made its way to my ears. I took one of the pillows beside me and covered my ears with it. Soon the noise stop and peace was restored to my sleepy self. However, my peaceful slumber didn’t last and I was once again woken by the beeping noise. Rolling on my side, I painfully opened one eye to find my phone making the noise. I picked it up my phone and pressed the green button and held it to my ear.

“I don’t even know why I keep an alarm when I have a perfectly good one that goes by the name, Sammie.” I sarcastically say into the phone.

“I’m glad you realize the true meaning of our friendship.” She said.

“Other than waking me up, what is the purpose of this call?” I ask, rubbing my eyes.

“To gossip, of course. Tell me every single detail of what happened with you and Theo.” I gave a Sammie a summary of the day before and his suggestion to me and our first adventure together. I decided to leave out the part about Theo and I’s pizza making. My feelings were a bit confused on that part.

“He took you to see his grandparents? That is so cute! So are you guys an official couple now?”

“No, Sammie we are not. I do not have feelings for Theo. This is strictly professional.”

“That’s what they all say. But then you’ll look into his eyes and fall madly in love. Hey, you should write a romance novel like that.” Rolling my eyes, I looked at the clock on my bedside table and realized it was getting close to noon.

“Hey Sammie, I’m going to head to get some lunch would you like to join? You can tell me all about your love story idea then.” Excitedly, Sammie agreed and put down the phone before I could say bye. I heaved myself off my comfortable bed and into bathroom to get ready to tackle the day.

In no time, I was dressed and at a local restaurant waiting for Sammie to arrive. As I sat there alone my eyes always wondered back to my phone. There was this bit inside me that hoped Theo texted me. Whether it be a simple ‘hello’ or something to do with our adventures, I just wanted him to text me. And as my eye once again began to drift that way, I was distracted by the screeching noise of a chair being pulled. I looked up to find Sammie all well dressed and perfect.

“Is it your job to make me look underdressed in public?” I ask as I open up a menu.

“No. But it is my job to tell you that if you’re going on another adventure with Theo, that outfit  is not going to work.”

“Theo and I are not going on another adventure today.” I say as I put down the menu and look her. Sammie does the same and the two of us are in a stare down.

“Then why do you keep checking your phone so often, Aurora?”

“I’m an author. I get a lot of emails.”

“Okay, I’m sure that’s the reason.” And before I could protest, a waitress came by and took our order. After handing the waitress our menus, Sammie began to eagerly jump in her seat.

“So I have important news.” She said as I placed my phone down so I would be distracted. I looked at her to continue on.

“Do you remember Josh from elementary school?” I placed my chin in the palm of my head and thought back. While thinking about my time during elementary school with Sammie I remember him.

“The little prick that pushed you in the mud? Yes, I remember him.” I say a bit confused as to why she would bring him up after so many years. Sammie’s elementary school moments are usually forbidden to talk about.

“Well he asked me out on a movie date tomorrow.” Sammie had a smile that could blind anyone who looked at her. I had never seen Sammie this excited for anything, well except for the Jesse McCartney album. However, I was more surprised that she would be excited to go on a date with the boy who pushed her into a pile of mud and laughed at her.

“Sammie, are you serious? He pushed you and laughed at you.” I say incredulously.

“He’s changed, Aurora. And unlike you, I don’t hold a grudge against someone for what eight years?”

“So what’s suddenly so interesting about Josh? Did he stop wearing those power ranger shirts?” I couldn’t believe Sammie would even look at Josh after all the teasing he did, much less go out on a date with him.

“He did. Plus he seems to have turned his ways. He’s sweet to me.” Sammie was happy and I didn’t want to be any more negative about it. She deserved to be happy.

“Okay if you say so. But I’m still keeping my eye on him.” I say with a wink. The waitress brought our food and we thanked her. As I dove into my food, Sammie sat in her seat looking at me.

“What?” I asked with a mouth full of food. Oh, how lady like of me.

“Aurora, would you do me a huge favor?” I nodded for her to continue as I continued to stuff my face. Sammie sat in her chair for a while smiling a little sly.

“Well, I was wondering if you would come Josh and I’s date next Friday?” I almost choked on my food when she said that.

“Oh no. No. I will not be that awkward third wheel. I will not be that friend that has to sit like three rows behind and have to sit alone and watch a movie. Nope.”

“Well you don’t have to be the third wheel…” She trailed off a bit as a I nodded my head vigorously to continue. I needed to know what plan she had. “You could always call a friend. You know who goes by the name Th-” I cut her off right then and there.

“No. Theo and I are strictly professional.”

“But he could tell you all about love between two teenagers is like. Maybe it will give you some idea for your book.” I looked at Sammie as she put on a pleading face and clasped her hands together. Sighing, I nodded my head in agreement. Sammie began to squeal and got up and hugged me.

“Okay, okay. But I can’t guarantee Theo will agree.”

“Oh he will.” Sammie said with a mischievous look as though she knew something I didn’t.

It’s been a week. One full week. Seven days, 168 hours, 10,080 minutes. It’s been that long since Theo texted me last. It’s been that long since our last adventure of love. I wanted to pick up the phone and call him up myself and ask him about our next adventure, but I wasn’t going to admit that his adventures of love might actually have something for me to write about.

All I did throughout the week was reread his texts a hundred times and tried to make sense of it, but I couldn’t. Maybe it was because I was so clueless about love that I didn’t get it. As I sat on my bed Wednesday night scrolling through social media websites on my laptop, my phone began to ring. The caller was Theo.

“Hey Theo.” I tried to say in a cool voice even though excitement was bubbling up inside me.

“Aurora…” Theo was breathing a little heavily and I could hear the worry in his voice.

“Theo? Are you okay?” I ask, sitting up straighter.

“I’m fine… but I need your help. Can you come down the dance studio on Main street?” and without hesitating a second I was out the door ready to get to Main street.
