( 032 ) the epidemic | m.w
She's been gone. Gone for 3 weeks. Without a trace left behind and it's driving Mike crazy.
See, Y/n and Mike are inseperable. Being together for over a year, nothing could come between them. Even when the whole epidemic came, where a virus could make you go mad and make you eventually try to kill yourself, they still survived. They're still surviving.
Until she was gone. Nobody knew where she went. Not Joyce. Not Hopper. Not Nancy. Not Dustin. Not Steve. Nobody.
Mike barely sleeps. Its hard to sleep when one you love is missing, being unaware if they're even dead now or not. El doesnt sleep either. Nor the other kids.
A party member left. But maybe she'll find her way back.
"Do you think she's dead." Max asks quietly. They're outside again, searching for y/n.
Its a daily thing now.
"I dont know. I hope not." Dustin says.
"Did you find the papers yet?" El asks, trying to change the topic before Mike gets even more emotional.
"Yeah." Max opens her bag, taking the papers she found out. The papers with their names on it. The papers that show if they're the immunes or not.
She hands them to Dustin who hands them to Lucas who hands them to El. She opens the folded papers, her eyes scanning through the town names. Her names not on the list, but she already knows shes immune.
She catches the schools name.
Hawkins Middle School Students;
Her eyes follow the words down. Finding her friends names.
Dustin Henderson- immune
Jonathan Byers- immune
Lucas SinClaire- exposed
Maxine Mayfield- immune
Michael Wheeler- immune
Nancy Wheeler- exposed
Will Byers- immune
Steve Harrington- immune
Her eyebrows furrow, not finding y/n's name. Where is she?
Flipping to the next page, her name is on the bottom.
Y/n Y/l/n- exposed
Her heart basically stops reading the words. Her friends are exposed to the virus. I mean it was bound to be some. Not everyone can be immune. But it stills hits hard. As rock.
"What? What's it say? Are we all immune?" Mike asks.
She shakes her head. Everyone stops walking, turning to look at her. "T-then who is exposed?"
"Lucas," he sucks in a deep breath, "Nancy," Mike gulps, "and y/n," Everyone glances at Mike. He seems calm. A little.
"Come on, keep moving." He mumbles, walking forward. Looking at eachother, their feet start moving again, following Mike's tracks.
"Kids!" Hopper shouts from behind them.
Joyce, Nancy, Jonathan, Steve, and Hopper run up to them, walking next to them.
"Why are you with us? You do this literally everytime we go and search." Max rolls her eyes.
"You could never know." Steve says.
"You have the papers?" Jonathan takes them from El, looking at them. His eyes land on Nancy's name, sadness overcoming his features.
"Who's not immune?" Joyce asks.
"Lucas, Nancy, and Y/n are exposed." El recites from the words on the pages.
"Me?" Nancy asks in disbelief.
"Yeah." Mike sighs.
One of his bestfriends, his sister, and his girlfriend are all exposed to the virus. Meaning theyre not immune. Meaning they can die. Meaning they can go mad. Kill theirselves. Kill others under influence.
They reach a house. A house they've never seen before. A crash loud enough to be heard from outside sounds, making them all alert.
"Everybody have their guns?" Hopper asks.
The kids takes theirs out, clicking the safety off. Hopper enters the house first, the kids second, and others last.
Ending up in the living room, another sound is heard from upstairs. They all look around.
They hear talking- most likely self talking- and footsteps. Loud ones. The voice starts becoming more clear, more feminine.
Suddenly, its silent. In the silence, everyone hears a bullet click into place in a gun behind them, causing their bodies to stiffen.
"Why are you in here?" Y/n asks.
They all turn around slowly. Shocked could be something they feel. She's different.
Her hair is shorter, uneven, must have been cut by herself. Her skin is visibly dry, her clothes dirty and dry blood staining her arms. Her eyes are bloodshot, around them being almost black circles as they hold uncertainties and a bit of insanity. They meet with Mike's eyes, softening.
"Why are you guys here? This isnt safe- I'm- I'm not safe. Okay?"
"Honey, we want you back. We'll help you, it's okay. Just drop the-" she cuts Joyce off.
"No!" Her voice is stern. Loud. "No. I'm not going back with you."
"Y/n, baby, please. You're gonna be okay."
She shakes her head, tears forming. "I'm already loosing my fucking mind, Mike. I've attempted 3 times already. And that's in the span of two days. I've killed 5 people. Innocent people." She sobs.
"Please just-"
"I'm not going!" She shouts, dropping her gun, making them flinch.
"You're coming. Wanting to or not." Max says, stepping forward and grabbing y/n by the arm. Y/n yanks her arm back, getting ahold of her.
"Hey! Let me go!" Max yells. Y/n turns her around, wrapping an arm around her neck securly enough so she doesnt move. She takes a knife from her back pocket.
"Any of you make me go, and she's getting cut open." Y/n threatens.
"Let her go." Lucas yells. She shakes her head.
The knife touches Max's cheek, her heart beating faster. Everything thought in y/n's brain is mixed. Her brain was driving her to cut Max anyways. To kill her like the other 5 she killed. The sane half didnt want to.
The voices get loud, everyone yelling at eachother to do something, some yelling at y/n to stop and let Max go. But the yelling silences when Mike holds his gun up at y/n.
The knife drifts away from Max's face seeing the gun. Y/n's eyes travel to the person holding the gun. Mike.
"Mike." She says.
"Y/n, let her go."
She automatically drops the knife, dropping hold of Max too. Max runs to Lucas, hugging him tightly.
Y/n stares at the gun pointed at her head. Maybe it can be over. Maybe if that shot is taken, she won't kill herself. She won't kill more innocent. She won't suffer. She doesnt want to suffer, not anymore. She wants him to pull that trigger.
"Pull it." She whispers, loud enough for him and the others to hear though. His eyes widen. He was only pointing it to scare her.
"What? No, I cant do that."
"Pull the trigger, Mike. Do it." She says louder this time.
"Mike, don't do it." El says. He shakes his head. "I dont want to." He responds.
"Do it. Do it now. Right now!" She yells with tear stained cheeks, meeting his eyes.
"I can't." He struggles out, a quiet sob passing his lips.
"Do it! Pull the fucking trigger, Michael! Do it now!" Y/n screams as Mike's hand shakes and tears cascade down her face.
"Please." She sobs. His finger rests on the trigger.
After a few moments, nothing. "If you ever loved me, still love me, you will pull that damn trigger."
"Okay." He manages out.
"Just know I love you." Y/n whispers to him. She breathes out slowly, her eyes closing.
"I love you too." Mike sobs, shutting his eyes tight.
And he pulls the trigger, the sound of y/n's now lifless body hitting the floor echoing in his ears.
