There were two two-top tables side-by-side at McDonalds when they got there- Patton bolting at them and laying his body across the tables to save them...needless to say, nobody came near to interfere between he and his tables.
Once their food had been ordered, and they were waiting, they moved to sit in the tables- Logan and Patton stealing one of the two-tops immediately, leaving Roman and Virgil to the other.
"Look at them, they're practically a couple." Roman smirked at Logan and Patton, Patton leaned against the table with a smile on his face that he held in his hands as he listened to Logan explain something. Too mathematical for Roman to personally understand.
"Mm..." Virgil nodded, sipping from his soda, as it was the only part of his meal he currently had. He then looked up, "Logan's a good guy?" He murmured quietly.
"I don't think it matters how loud we speak, they're in their own world." Roman smiled, "But, yes, Logan is a...good guy." He nods.
"You hesitated?" Virgil cocked an eyebrow.
"Well, it's just- I guess I don't always give him the credit he deserves," Roman shrugged, folding his hands on the table they sat at, "But yeah, Logan is a good guy, he puts up with the things I throw at him- usually tennis-balls." He winked, but Virgil only looked slightly amused, "He's a good roommate...and a good friend."
"How so?" Virgil leaned forward.
"Interrogation, huh?" Roman shrugged again, "Alright- well, it doesn't matter how late I get home, he's there to open the door for me when I don't have my key- he's academically brilliant...and he's just- there. He's there."
Virgil's expression softened, "He...sounds like a good friend."
"Are you worried for Patton?" Roman murmured.
Virgil scratched the back of his head, "In a way, yeah."
"Well, don't worry. Logan's a mellow guy." Roman chuckled.
"That's good." Virgil nodded.
"You sounds like you've had a fun time with relationships." Roman grinned, like the idiot he'd just become for asking such a question. He didn't immediately realize his mistake as Virgil simply grew quiet. When he finally recognized how uncomfortable Virgil had grown, giving only a shrug, he cleared his throat, "Sorry- that's um- that's- well, I um- I've really only dated two girls in my life, and it was in High School so-"
"Girls, huh?" Virgil snorted.
Fuck. Roman mentally cursed, "Yes, why?"
"Don't get me wrong, I just thought you were- well, you know- into guys." Virgil looked amused at his own words.
Roman's face turned red, "U-Um, well, what did um- what gave you that impression?"
"You've shown up at my door half dressed twice. Seems like a bit of a bit coincidence..." Virgil chuckled.
Roman could feel the pulse of his face as his lips drew a thin line, "Wh-What are you playing at?"
"Oh-" Virgil looked awkward now, "Well, I don't want to be modest-"
"Did you think I did that because I like you?" Roman's voice was breathy.
Virgil shrank down and shrugged, "I can never tell that kinda stuff."
"Well, it seemed like you were pretty spot on." Roman leaned back, unaware of what he'd just given.
Virgil's eyes widened, "Spot-On?"
"I-" Roman panicked.
Virgil awkwardly tapped the table with his finger, "Roman, you like me?"
Roman looked at his lap, throat feeling tight, "I-I wouldn't particularly say um- well- of course I- but um-" He sighed, looking up, "Look, you're a very pleasant um, person, and- it matches your looks and uh- but we've only known each other for a few days so- but I know that it can happen like that so um- I don't know...I would like to take you out sometime if that would...be alright? To uh- to just get to know each other a bit better and see if we- uh...click?" His mouth was now dry.
Virgil had a deep look of concern when Roman had finished before he finally gave a small smile, "Um, well, thanks for telling me...uh-" He sighed, "Look, Roman,"
Roman already felt deflated.
"I'm sure you're a nice guy...but I'm just...I'm not looking to be with someone right now." Virgil wouldn't meet Roman's eye.
Roman felt his heart clench.
Great. He'd spoken too soon and now he'd ruined his chances with this boy.
He struggled to find what to say before he cleared his throat,
"I think our food is ready."

Roman stayed in bed the following morning, skipping practice- he knew that he'd get hell for that later, but it'd be less hell than going into practice dejected, and trying to explain that wouldn't be easier either. Tom could handle sexuality criticism a lot better than he could.
"Alright, you've skipped your class, you came home silent- I know who you're hung up over, so how about tell me why? Patton...told me to keep up with emotions so, I'm starting my experiments with you. How...are you?" Logan winced from where he sat on his bed.
"I fucked up." Roman groaned into his pillow.
"How so?" Logan crossed his legs.
Roman lifted his head from his pillow, still in his clothes from last night, "I told Virgil I wanted to go out with him and it's one-sided."
Logan frowned, "Oh...what did he say?"
"He said he didn't want to date right now." Roman slammed his head back down.
There was silence for a few moments before Logan chuckled.
Roman furrowed his brow and turned his head to face Logan, "What?"
"Well, he didn't exactly reject you, Roman. He simply doesn't want to date right now. You can't control that-" Logan thought a moment, "But you can think about how you'll react."
"How I...react?" Roman cocked a brow.
"If he doesn't want a boyfriend, maybe he just wants a friend." Logan specified.
"So I should...become his friend?" Roman mumbled, "I don't know if I can ever face him again.." He shut his eyes.
"Well, you've already done that partially- so just continue on with it. If you cut ties with him now, you've lost a love interest, and a friend- if you're his friend, he'll let you know one day if he may reciprocate your feelings, versus never knowing." Logan sighed, "Look, he didn't say no, so that means he at least cares for your feelings...that's good, in my book."
Roman blinked a few times, "How do I be someone's friend and also like them?"
"Well, you don't have to hide it- just be respectful that he may not like you back, and assume he probably doesn't." Logan shrugged.
"That sounds like it could be alright...if not a bit saddening at heart." Roman sat up, "But I...I do believe I want to be his friend..." He then looked at Logan, "How are you so good at advice?"
"It's just this topic." Logan shook his head.
"How so?"
"Did you see me with Patton?"
