Chapter 18

Delhi;

Bipin stepped back from the wall and heaved a sigh of relief. He adjusted his glasses and looked around his house. Covered in newspaper articles, arrows from a red marker, and messy charts. He was drained but excited to the brim. He had figured it out. He linked the ISRO attack to all current situations. He had connected and found every minute detail. He put the call on speakerphone as he went toward the kitchen.

"Yes, Boss?" answered an anxious Pranav.

"Head to New Delhi immediately. Mission details will be sent later" said Bipin, cutting the call and pouring water in a vessel on the stove. He pressed the call button once again and the Defence Minister bellowed.

"Will you shut up? I've done as much as I can, pulled favours and sent a team to Europe to hunt that little mole of yours."

"Sir, we'll need them in New Delhi. Call them back?"

"Are you kidding me, Bipin?"

"Not quite," answered Bipin while putting in tea powder and sugar in the water as it boiled. "I've linked every possible thing on this mission to one another and I do believe I know Bakhtiyar's plan."

"Oh, God. Shut up. I don't wanna tell tales to the Prime Minister. I have no time for imaginary stories."

"Sir, I just need a full team of expert agents here, in Mumbai and a few in New Delhi. I can prevent this."

"You're on your own, Bipin. Maybe I can ask a few more favours and deploy one team in Mumbai wherever you ask."

"Fine," said Bipin and he cut the call. As he poured the tea in a cup and added milk, he thought of Nakul's intention. What was the boy up to?

Brussels Airport;

"Been to India before?"

"Nope," snarled Rachel. "If you knew we had to go to India anyway, why the hell had you brought me here, to Belgium?"

"For the chocolates of course! I love them!"

"Fine, don't tell me. Keep lying."

"You think any transportation in Germany would be safe after what happened? We would have been caught and I would have been shred to pieces by now."

"Fine. I don't want to talk to a traitor so now go and kindly ask someone to exchange seats."

"I am not a traitor, Rachel," pled Nakul.

"Oh, okay. You are something more than that?"

Nakul got up and left. Minutes later, a man came and sat next to Rachel, passing her a creepy smile. Rachel thought about the time she and Nakul had spent together. He had never let her feel frightened. He had made her boring teacher life more exciting. He made her feel safe. Even with 2 Intel agencies of the world and cops of one country behind them, Rachel never felt threatened. Until the stranger came and sat next to her.

The aeroplane had now started running across the runway and the seatbelt sign had popped up. But Rachel didn't care. She slid out of her seatbelt and made her way from the window seat to the passage in the middle. Her head moved here and there frantically, her neck being the hinge. She wanted to see that familiar face desperately. She looked at him, sadness in his eyes, unaware of what was happening and looking out of the window. The air hostess was screaming at Rachel to get back to her seat, some of the passengers perplexed at the chaos, but Rachel didn't care. She went to Nakul, looked him directly in the eyes and shouted, "Why did you have to do this? Why did you put me through this?"

Nakul looked around and quietly muttered, "We can talk about this another time."

"No, we can't. I need to know. Now!"

The pilot was making announcements now and the whole plane's eyes were staring right at them. Nakul requested for the lady next to him to go forward and exchange seats with Rachel to which a stunning reply came his way.

"You move! I'm here with my goddamn family. Pick your child and shift!"

Nakul quietly got up, apologised and made his way back to the original seats. Though everyone on the plane had panicked, Rachel going through an anxiety attack, Nakul was as cool as a carrot. It seemed that he had been in worse situations.

"Rachel, I know I can tell you why I am doing this but knowing this will endanger your life."

"It more or less has," she replied while looking out of the window and watching buildings slowly shrink into ant sizes, rivers becoming thin threads of blue.

"I don't think you need to know. Your life isn't one I would put at risk."

"You owe it to me! I need to know!" she said, her voice and anger, rising. Her anxiety was palpable.

"Why?" He retorted

"Cause I need to know why the man I love is betraying his motherland!" she shrieked.

"What? Hold on," said Nakul, the sentence, taking it's time to sink in. He could sense the vulnerability in her.

"Look, I know we have met only a few times and all that, but you know the connection between us is undeniable," she said, calming down.

"I know, Rachel. The thing is, I love you too. But I don't know if this is right. Especially given the timing."

"It's up to you, Nakul. But I need to know what you're doing and why."

"Fine. Brace Yourself. This isn't gonna sound believable at all. But it's all true."

"Shoot." Said Rachel, making herself more comfortable and looking directly at Nakul.

"So as you know, I was working with R&AW..."
