Chapter III: Last Raindrop
Everyone was gathered at the gym, surrounding the corpse.
"Look, she's dead." "I feel sorry for her parents." "How could this happen?" Some students began whispering. while they started to chatter about the incident, I was sitting on the floor, crying beside Sakura's lifeless body.
"Whyyy?!" I started shouting as tears keep flowing from my eyes. "Of all the people in our school.. Why must it be Sakura who has to die?! She doesn't deserve to die this way!" I kept shouting angrily. As I continue to shed tears, I hear footsteps approaching. Principal Walker has arrived at the gym.
"Everyone," He started talking "I know this situation is hard for all of us, but unfortunately, your recess is over so I want all of you to return to your respective classrooms immediately." He said this in a calm manner.
Some were still traumatized about the whole situation, but the principal's orders were not supposed to be defied.
"I'm not leaving her!" I shouted. "My friend just died and you want me to leave her?!" I shouted to the Principal. At that moment, I didn't notice that the principal balled his fists, and clenched his teeth.
"I mean, our teachers told us that the school is our second home! We must treat everyone like family! So, tell me Mr. Walker, what kind of family leaves their own member behind?! I'm going to stay here and---" Before I got the chance to finish my sentence, the Principal punched me right in the face. I fell on the floor, hard, but when I was about to stand up, the principal grabbed my collar and started shouting angrily.
"LISTEN HERE BRAT! OUR SCHOOL IS A FAMILY! AND IN THIS FAMILY, I AM YOUR FATHER! MY ORDERS ARE ALMIGHTY AND ABSOLUTE! DON'T YOU HAVE ANY RESPECT IN TALKING TO YOUR ELDERS?!"
He didn't let go of my collar, and kept shouting right in front of my face. He was so loud, he was deafening.
"WHEN I SAY RETURN TO YOUR CLASSROOMS, EVERYONE WILL RETURN TO THEIR CLASSROOMS! ANYONE, WHO DARES DEFY MY ORDERS, SHALL BE PUNISHED!"
At that moment, he noticed how all the students looked at him. "Ehehem." He tried to clear his throat, as he let go of my collar. "Like I was saying, all students must return to their classrooms so that I can immediately call the cops for some investigation." He talked calmly, trying to forget what he just did to me as he faced the crowd. "Understood?" He asked everyone.
We responded silently and nodded our head. Some were terrified about the student's death, but majority feared the principal most.
*Back at the Classroom*
"I know today's not a great day like we expected." Our adviser, Ms. Ayako, said. "But that doesn't mean we can't make it a happy day." She smiled, trying to cheer us all up.
"Happy? What would you want me to do? Be happy because my friend died, or because the principal punched me? Oh I know, I should be happy because for the first time in my life, not only does my body hurt, but my heart as well!" I thought to myself feeling depressed.
Suddenly, the school buzzer was heard all through-out the campus.
*BZZZTTT BZZZTTT BZZZTTT*
"Sorry to disturb all of you." It was no other, than our Principal. "An important meeting is going to be held for all the teachers. All teachers, please gather in the Teachers' Lounge after this announcement. Thank you."
*BZZZTTT BZZZTTT BZZZTTT*
After the announcement, Ms. Ayako placed her class record, and some other files in her bag.
"I am not sure how long the meeting will take, but Mr. Anderson, you are in charge of everyone here." She said before leaving. "Understand?" She asked. "Yes ma'am!" He replied.
As Ms. Ayako left the room, everyone started talking.
Some girls were gossiping and giggling about Sakura's death.
"I still can't believe Sakura just died." "I know right, I feel sorry for the loss of Class-A." "But look on the bright side, with her out of the way, our class might win in Quiz Bees now! haha." "Also, guys from their class might actually fall for us now! See, her death wasn't a total waste! hahaha."
While some boys were chatting about it.
"Aww man! How will I confess my feelings for her now?! Out of all the students in Class-A, why must she die?!" "Easy there Tiger, Love never quits. There are a lot of fishes in the sea." Yea, he's right,. Just like TV Channels, you can always switch to watch another. hahahaha."
While everyone was talking about the whole incident, I was sitting in my chair, hands above my armchair, and head rested above them.
"No one really cares about her, huh?" I thought to myself. "I guess for some girls, Sakura was just a competitor in both, brains and beauty. She was never treated with kindness, but instead, treated with sharp glares and horrible insults. As for the guys, Sakura was just a TV Channel? With a great mind and a pretty face, guys only treat her like how Aphrodite wants others to treat herself. Was I the only one who cares about her?! Am I the only one who thinks of her like a human being?! She disliked being the apple of every man's eye, and the root of every girl's envy. She doesn't deserve to die this way!" And before I knew it, tears started flowing out from my eyes.
"You doing alright. buddy?" A voice spoke to me, while a hand was patting my shoulder. As I looked up, it was Jason, trying to comfort me.
"You know, crying won't do you any good." He said.
"c-crying? I ain't crying.." I said while wiping my tears.
"Oh, I'm sorry. Either you got something in your eye, or the room is hot, your eyes are sweating." He said sarcastically.
"Listen," he began talking. "I know her death isn't something you can deal by smiling, but you should know that it pains me too. You, Sakura, and I are friends. Now that she's gone. It's best we keep smiling and happy for her sake. If she was here right now, she'd scold you on how weak you look right now. The Natsu we know is reckless, and doesn't cry. For Sakura's sake, could you at least not blame yourself for her death.
*sniffs* "y-yeah.. I'll do just that.." I said while trying to grin.
The classroom door opened, and Ms. Ayako entered.
"How was the meeting ma'am?" asked our class president.
"Uhm, about that, the principal has ordered us teachers to inform you that today's dismissal time is 11:30 am." The teacher responded.
"As you can see," she pointed at our wall clock. " It's already 11:25 am. After my announcement, you must all go home now. Understand?" She asked the whole class.
"yes." we replied in sync.
"Good," she continued. "The principal wanted everyone, both students and teachers, to go home early. This was to ensure the safety of the investigation for the murder incident. No one is allowed to loiter around the school campus once you are out of the classroom. Are we clear?" She asked.
"Yes." we replied.
"In that case. please fix your stuff before going home." she instructed.
That said, we all prepared are stuff before going home. Everyone started standing, and are heading straight towards the door. Between me and Jason, I went out the classroom first, but I waited for him outside.
"Natsu!" he called while carrying a book. "I'll head to the library first to return this book. Don't wait up anymore." he said.
"But didn't Ms. Ayako said no loitering around?" I questioned.
"Don't worry. I'll be fine. There you go again, all concerned and stuff. I'll be quick. haha" as he said that, he quickly ran towards the library on the third floor. I was suppose to follow him, but then, I remembered I had a "punishment meeting" with the principal since I was late to school awhile ago.
"Will he even show up?" I wondered.
As Jason went to the Library, I hurried to the Principal's Office. That was the last time we saw each other.
