The state of the current book is hurt and comfort but, once upon a time, it was supposed to be something entirely different.

◆ The two-week murders belonged to Logan. He casually killed people and drained them every time. No one ever suspected due to his scepticism to supernatural and stains of Crofters.

◆ Patton got laid every three days with someone random person every time and sucked their soul after some fun one-six of the time. It depended on their level of rudeness.

◆ Roman had the fridge stuffed with raw meat and the forest to himself every full moon. Basically, the reason the forest has a protection enchantment that goes berserk and rumors created by Virgil. (Virgil created the rumors in the original, in the current version he doesn't, the townfolks create them.)

◆ Virgil, wearing a black cloak, followed them around to keep them save from various threats and was still a doctor. (Virge basically got no sleep and survived with coffee and magic. Sometimes fifty cups of coffee with Red Bull were the only thing keeping him awake. He can't necessarily poison himself.)

The plot was basically Virgil having to keep two mortal —instinctive— enemies from discovering themselves. Plus an Incubus because everyone hates them for their soul sucking after sex.

In resume, everyone hated Patton (except for Virgil) but he still got laid, Roman and Logan were one step away from pulling claws and fangs out. And Virgil was the middle man between everyone casually contemplating the order of murders and where to hide the bodies. He needed a long deserved break.
