Chapter 7
The hotel rooms I booked were okay. I asked Amado if he wanted a suite but he declined, so I didn't book a suite for myself either. Yeah, we're not sharing rooms. The best way to know someone is not by their digestive track. I was able to book the rooms with a fake ID and appearance that looked like an adult.
My death day will be forever remembered by me. I died on my 18th birthday, and was about to be betrothed to the emperor of Rome, Tiberius. I hated that scoundrel and honestly am glad I died before we sealed the deal. My dad and brother sold me to him in marriage. The deal was I, Luna--the girl everyone in Rome looked up to and adored-- would be married to the emperor of Rome by paying him $100 worth of denarii (worth a lot more 2,000 years ago), and in exchange the emperor would make my family part of the royal family. My brother payed the night before the wedding, the night before my birthday. The next morning I was killed, just before I was scheduled to get ready for the wedding on my 18th birthday. Tiberius had the money and no longer needed me. The soldiers who killed me took their time sexually abusing me and dragging their blades across my skin so I slowly bled, painfully, to death. I never wish that kind of thing upon anyone, and am forever traumatized. Whenever I sleep, I have nightmares about it. Anywho, that's why I forever look 18.
I had a hard time sleeping because of the nightmares. I hoped Amado was having better success than I.
My night of much needed sleep in this mortal body was wasted by watching Disney and experimenting with the makeup I bought at Walmart until I was happy. I barely even noticed when morning came. But when I checked the time, it was 6:30. Oh frick.
Hurriedly, I got dressed into an outfit I bought last night, checked my makeup, and ran to Amado's room. School started at 8:00, and it took 45 minutes to walk there from here. Amado might not have been up yet.
"Amado!" I yelled as I banged on his door. "You better get your butt up right this instant or you're gonna be late to school!" I counted a minute and heard no response. "Amado!" I called, banging his door again. "If you don't come out by the time I count to 10, I'm coming in!" Someone in their pajamas came out angrily to yell at me but I shushed them. "Don't you complain, ma'am! My son is about to be late for school!" She rolled her eyes before walking back in. Bitch. Have I ever mentioned before that I hate eyerolls?
I started to count. "1… 2… 3…" nope. "4… 5… 6…" no chief. "7… 8… 9…" 918 no chef. I paused for an extra long moment. "Teeeeen!" No reply still, so I unlocked the door with a magnetic field and barged in. "Amado!" I yelled, running through the bedroom and bathroom. I really started freaking out when he wasn't there.
"Frick!" I muttered as I ran out. The only other place he would be on his own was the breakfast hall. So that's where I went. When I burst through there, I saw Amado happily eating. He waved at me. "Hi mom!"
I really wanted to be mad but knew I shouldn't, so I stood there for a good minute or so. I finally snapped out of it when Amado stepped in front of me.
"Ready to go, mom?"
As a reflex, my hand reached out and smacked him.
"WHAT THE FRICK?!" We both yelled at the same time. That made me chuckle.
"My gosh, Amado, you scared the crap outta me!" I sighed, yanking at my hair.
"Sorry mom. Let me guess. You didn't see me in the room and freaked out?" I nodded. "Yeup. Happened with a pair of foster parents before. Sorry."
I face palmed, remembering the incident. "Oh my gosh I'm sorry, I'm a horrible parent with no sleep!" I exclaimed.
Amado grinned. "It's okay, mom." He nodded his head out of the dining hall. "C'mon. Let's go to school."
I simply nodded again. To school we went.
