Chapter 8- Gore
I knew I had the upper hand now that we were on the ground. I heard another CRACK, this time it reverberated through my skull. I shook, pain ripping through me.
She upright again, a wicked grin plastered on her face. "Looks like I missed a spot!" I spun, my fist colliding with her teeth. This time the CRACK came from her skull, and it was my turn to bust out a smile. "Not such a big shot down here are ya?" I had so much built-up rage and fear, it felt good to finally let loose.
I walked up to the harpy, she was still laying on the rocky ground. I pulled my fist again, but pain shot through my leg. I had taken that fall harder than I thought. I wobbled and shook, pain shooting through my skull. I grabbed my head. Everything ached. She took the opportunity to kick me in the stomach. I flew through the air until I collided with a boulder.
<Don't worry, this is normal.> I gritted my teeth and prepared to yell back at the woman. When I looked up though, there was another figure. A shiver went down my spine, it was the man from before.
Giant, black, rotting wings stretched out behind him. A frigid smirk across his face. He was wearing a black tie and back suit pants. He looked ready to go to a creepy Halloween formal.
"You clean up well." I sneered, wincing as I tried to stand. I was trying to play it cool, but fear and pain were ripping through me. Where were Mei and Pilot?
<So glad your friends finally brought you to me.> His voice reverberated in my skull, his mouth never opening. <But not as glad as I am that you are finally waking up. Of course, you had a bit of help.> His eyes fell on the feathered woman, who was slowly rising from the rubble. <I guess you can play together a bit longer.>
She rushed at me, claws colliding with my stomach as she pushed me deeper into the boulder. Sharp rocks stabbed at my back. Darkness tugged at the edge of my vision.
"Gore!" The battle cry came from above. It was Mei. "She is under our protection, leave her alone." She landed on the ground in front of Gore. He simply shrugged. Mei rushed at him, with her umbrella? Really? She chose that as her weapon? Maybe she really was crazy.
Pain ripped through my ribs as the harpy adjusted her grip.
"You'd keep meh from meh dear lil' sistah?" He said, his voice out loud sounding much more like I remembered it being. I really wish all these people would stop making up stories about my family.
I wrapped around to kick the back of harpy's knee cap, her legs falling out from under her. Then I took the opportunity to grab the feathers on her head and punched that grin off her face again. She was already missing a few teeth. Then I kicked her in the ribs, her body flying back again. I could feel her bones cracking as she impacted with my foot.
Rage stilled filled me and burned in my eyes. I cracked a wicked grin and walked slowly to the beaten form of the harpy. She was laying on the ground, I could see in her eyes that she had given up. Still, I wanted her to stay down. I wanted her to be as beaten as I had felt the past few days. More importantly, I needed to get my rage out.
I started punching her, first at her gut then at her face. Again. Again. Again. And again. I heard Gore laugh in the distance. Still, I felt the same. If anything, I got angrier and my punches got harder. Finally, I pulled back and realized she wasn't breathing. I shook, realizing what I had done. Gore let out another maniacal laugh.
My whole body was shaking. I pulled my hand back and jumped away from the body. Everything in me quivered. I fell to my knees.
That's when I noticed the scales, I was covered in them. Thick, dark scales were on my hands, my arms, my face, some had even cut through my pants and shoes. I looked up to Mei and Gore fighting. She was already covered in bruises and cut. I wanted to help but I was too shocked.
I wasn't human. They hadn't been lying.
I turned on my heels and ran.
