Roughly five months passed since the wedding and honeymoon. The couple continued to work together in the same company and live in the same apartment—just arranged differently.
The apartment felt like a real home for the couple where they are not sleeping in two different rooms. Adrien helped rearrange Marinette's bedroom so it becomes a peaceful master bedroom for them to sleep together. Adrien's old room became a hobby room where Marinette would go and design for work. Adrien splurged when they had extra money to spend and bought a treadmill so he would workout little by little like his work asked him to do for a while, so a corner of the room became Adrien's little work out spot. Sometimes the space was used to give each other some space. Both rooms had been repainted also—the master bedroom in light blue and grey and the hobby room was repainted with a soft green.
Not only their home changed, but Adrien noticed how often Marinette would wrap herself up in a blanket, lay on the living room couch, and watch Netflix. She did this on days she promised to work on a new pattern or outfit for Gabriel in the hobby room. Adrien kept a record of how long she would lay around. Maybe she's overworked and tired?
Then there was a moment of time where Marinette would snack more than usual. It wasn't just fruit and sandwiches, she snacked on chips and macrons more than she usual. Adrien noticed how self-conscious she was acting every time they went out for dinner or lunch. Lately he noticed her fidgeting with her clothes.
"I...I don't look that much different, do I?" Marinette asked one day while looking in the bedroom mirror. She decided to buy a frilly pink and grey dress, but her face looked concern as if she wasn't comfortable wearing dresses anymore.
Adrien glanced at her from his magazine. He wasn't about to crush her spirit, but as husband, he had to be honest. "I think the dress looks cute on you, Mari." He said.
"Cute?" she questioned as she turned to the side. She looked at the reflection of her and sighed. "We need to cut snacks."
"We tried that. It didn't work after the last food shopping trip."
"Or I can eat less when I visit my parents."
"You take home any leftover croissants and parfaits of the day before." Not that Adrien minds.
She sighed and sat on the edge of the bed. "I feel...really off." She said as she fidgeted again.
Adrien's suddenly stopped reading the page he was on and took a guess. "Well...um...we have been trying."
"Yeah, but it's only been five months." she laughed. "I told you we should give it a little bit of time to get adjusted to married life before we...you know."
"We've been living like a married couple before we got married." He said bluntly. He closed the magazine and sat up to sit behind the woman. "You would have told me, right?"
"Yeah! I would have by now." She laughed nervously. "It's not like I won't ever be aware of what's going on with my body."
Adrien wanted to say something, but he put his head down on her shoulder before it could leave his mouth. He took a breath and shook his head to shake the adult rated comment. "Just...go and visit your doctor or have your mom or Alya help you out."
Marinette nodded. "Yeah. Girl talk." She said to herself.
"So you think you are?" Alya said, standing next to her in the middle of the aisle.
"I want to know why there are so many of these damn tests." Marinette grumbled. Not only she had to compare cost, but she was overwhelmed by the brands and packaging. "I already used up the two mom got me for the honeymoon. If it's true, this time..."
"then it's about time." Alya laughed.
Marinette picked up three of the same box and place them in her basket. "Okay...now off to the snack aisle- "
"Mari, Adrien said no more snacks." Alya grabbed the collar of her dress.
"B-But...not even a bag of chips?" Marinette pouted.
The redhead sighed and let go. "Fine, one bag." She said before she watched her best friend wonder to the snacks. "Adrien is going to have fun keeping up with this girl's cravings." She snickered.
The woman was in luck when she walked to her parent's bakery, knowing ahead of time that her mom would be the only one home and cleaning as her father was busy in the bakery. She had called her mother exclusively to vent about her anxious feelings, only for her mother to invite her over and promising not to tell a soul until Marinette knows she's for sure.
Marinette paced around the bathroom for a few minutes before the test, and now the five minutes waiting is making her anxious and thinking. How can I tell my family and friends? To Adrien? Everyone at work? To Adrien?! As soon as she heard that beep for the result, she stood frozen for a minute before looking at the screen. "No way..." she mumbled.
Adrien had been keeping himself busy while waiting on his wife to come home. He wanted to make special dinner plans in case this was the day, but he knew she would be uncomfortable dressing up and going out into public again. After a short workout and shower, he relaxed in the living room watching a fashion design show until his phone rang.
"H-Hey! A-Adrien!" said a nervous woman.
"Hey, Mari. Is everything okay?" the blonde asked, pausing the show. "You said you're with your parents and Alya?"
"Yeah, I am...I mean, yeah they are here!" she laughed nervously. "Did we make any plans for tonight? I could use a night out."
"Sure. Movie and dinner sound nice? I can look up some times and reserve a table somewhere."
"Um...Just a dinner sounds romantic- I mean, nice! Yeah, hehehe..."
"Alright." He said, sitting up to grab the tablet on the table. "I'll reserve at the usual place. I'll pay for both since you probably had a longish day."
"Y-Yeah...It's just that I want to tell you something but I don't know how to say it, so I'll be hanging out here and getting ready. Can you pick me up since I walked everywhere today?"
"Sure, my lady." He smiled a bit. "I'll see you tonight. Love you."
"Love you, too...See you tonight." With that, she hung up and began freaking out.
