I had to leave my comfort zone when writing the book and the script. I'm used to writing about supernatural creatures or superheroes. I love that my characters have a super-powered legacy to build upon, so it was tough for me to write characters with no powers at all.

Also, I've never been to a prom. My entire life was all about school and my mental health, and they didn't feel it was appropriate to encourage the students to date one another, so we never had a prom. It almost happened once, but then some students ruined prom for everyone. When it came down to writing a script about prom night, I primarily relied on what I understood from other films I've watched.

My romantic character is primarily based on people I know or parts of me and feelings I've seen in other films.
