Episode 2: The Return Of Voltron
Ten Years After Lotor's Death, An Alternative Reality;
The Garrison, Earth
(Three girls control a ship through the wide expanse of space. Each of look radically different to each other, apart from the white and grey uniform they wear. Clover, has a constant determined expression on her smooth, dark-skinned face. She straightens out her mousy-brown hair and squints through her glasses. The other two sit at the front seats. The co-pilot Karma pulls her straggly black hair and rubs her pale skin, constantly tense. But the other, Scarlett, leans back comfortably. She's the opposite of Karma and has brown hair and tanned skin.)
(Karma leans over Scarlett to try and reach the control panel.)
Karma: You're going to fly straight into that asteroid!
Scarlett: You think I don't already know that, Karma?!
Clover, rolling her eyes: "Would you please stop arguing and concentrate?!"
Scarlett, scornfully: She-!
(They crash into an asteroid and the ship blows up into bits of flaming debris. The simulation shuts down, and Clover throws her headset off and groans frustratedly. Karma and Scarlett scowl at each other.)
On The Way To The Dorms
Clover, sighing deeply: Come on, guys! We've been at this for years and you always argue then we never get anywhere!
Karma: Clover's right. (Karma stops and crosses her arms.) I'm sick of it. We can't work as a team...And I work better on my own. (She pauses) Guys...I quit.
Scarlett/ Karma: You what?!
Clover: Karma, you can't quit the Garrison just like that!
Karma: Watch me.
(She walks out, with the door sliding behind and they stare after her in shock and confusion.)
Scarlett, after a second: Well that was sudden.
Clover: But where is she going to go? We practically grew up here-none of us know any other family.
Scarlett: Thanks for reminding me. (Then she pauses and says)
I've gotta stop her.
(Scarlett speeds after Karma, and Clover decides to follow behind.
She finds Karma with a bag of her belongings and a black motorbike, and places a shiny helmet on her head.)
Scarlett: Karma! ...Wait. (She scans the environment.) You were... planning to leave all along. (Karma ignores her, and carries on getting ready to leave.) Where exactly are you going?
Karma, staring at her harshly: Anywhere but here.
(She swings on her bike and revs it up, not giving a second look at the Garrison as she drives away. Scarlett sighs angrily just as Clover catches up, panting.)
Clover: She's...gone.
The Next Day
(People pass Scarlett and Clover in the hallway, who are looking up at an updated list for the training teams.)
Scarlett: Alright. Let's see who I'm with now.
Clover, annoyed: Who we're with now.
Scarlett, finger landing on a name: ...Kibra.
Clover: Kibra who?
Scarlett, shrugging: I don't know, it just says 'Kibra'.
(A girl walks towards them behind and stops, towering over them both eerily.)
Kibra: That would be me. Am I in your team?
(The sound of her voice makes them both turn round. She has short, shoulder-length black hair, and a square chin that fits in with her tall height. Clover whimpers a little. Scarlett grins.)
Scarlett, holding out her hand: So you're my new co-pilot! Nice to meet you.
Kibra, shaking it, a little confused: Co-pilot? I thought I was the main flyer. Scarlett, right?
Scarlett: Yeah. And no, I'm the pilot.
(Kibra peers at the list. Clover and Scarlett stare at her, intrigued.)
Kibra: Oh yeah, sorry. I must have misheard when they told me.
(She looks back at them both.) It's getting late, we need an early rise for tommorow.
Scarlett holds her shoulders back. "I agree. I know because of, erm, experience. We'll be in room 207 if you need us."
"Okay, thanks." Kibra replies, waving them off.
They part ways, then Clover and Scarlett each lay facing up on a bunk-bed. Scarlett looks across the empty bed on the other side of the room, with the sheets tossed and forgotten.
"What do you think of Kibra?" Clover asks.
"Hmm, she's alright. Guess we'll find out tommorow if she'll live up to me. 'Scarlett, Future-'
" '-Future Paladin of Voltron', I know. But it's destiny, Scarlett! There's no way out of 10.62 billion people in the entire universe are they just going to pick you."
Scarlett furrows her eyebrows. "You'll see, Clover. I will get there. With or without Karma."
The Next Day, Inside The Training Simulation
Clover, flicking a switch on the monitor: Okay, we're entering the asteroid field.
Scarlett, grinning cheekily: Don't worry, Kibra-They call me 'The Tailor' because of how I thread the needle.
Clover, rolling her eyes: No-one has ever called you that.
(Scarlett weaves in and out of the meteors and the occasional explosion from Kibra hitting them with a blaster.)
Kibra: Nice dodge!
Scarlett: You're not too bad yourself, co-pilot.
(Scarlett decides to show off and turns the ship around and around in a loop, dodging the meteors. Clover gags.)
Clover: Scarlett! Stop! I'm gonna be-
Scarlett: -Better than yesterday? Go for it! It's probably easier now Karma isn't here!
Clover: -No, I mean, I'm gonna be- *She throws up in the engine hatch* ...Ugh.
Kibra, turning round briefly: Oh...Are you ok...I didn't catch your name earlier.
Clover, colour coming back into her face: -It's Clover. And yeah, I'm fine...if Scarlett doesn't show off any more!
Scarlett, turning round to face her: Excuse me Clover, but I'm doing all the work here!
Clover: I'm trying to make sure the ship is stable!
Kibra: Look, arguing never helps-
Scarlett, turning round: Serves you right for crushing my dreams!
(The ship flies directly into an asteroid just as Scarlett turns back around. The simulation shuts down again, and they grumpily step out of the ship to be shouted at by the commander...again.)
That Night
(They go into their dorm rooms and Scarlett puts on a blue top, a brown canvas jacket and skinny jeans.)
Clover: What are you doing?
Scarlett: Going to the club. You know, gonna meet some boys, have some fun-
Clover, trying to think of an excuse: -In that jacket?!
Scarlett: It was my dad's, ok?! Wherever in the universe he is...Get something actually acceptable on and you can come with me.
Clover: No wait! Scarlett, I can't, I need to watch the comet! There's a real comet coming over that only happens across here every five thousand years! And it's so close!
Scarlett: Isn't that the comet that the Garrison's on lockdown for?
Clover: No. Absolutely not.
(Scarlett crosses her arms and gives her a look.)
Clover: Okay, yes. Please. You can't tell anyone.
Scarlett, winking: I won't. I suppose I'll just have to go all by myself. Just don't get blown up, k?
Clover: Trust me, I won't.
(Clover speeds off ahead, carrying a load of scientific equipment and Scarlett shuts the door behind her, then walks into the hallway. Opposite her, Kibra is sneaking out of her room and scanning around cautiously.)
Scarlett, quietly: Where is she going?
(She follows her down the corridor. Kibra suddenly stops.)
Kibra: I know you're there, Scarlett.
Scarlett, whispering sharply: Aw, come on! But I was so quiet! Where ya going?
Kibra: More importantly, where were you going?
Scarlett: N-no-where. -Extra training. I'm very hard-working.
Kibra: In that jacket?
Scarlett, checking herself over: What is so wrong with this jacket?! It...it was my dad's. Alright?
Kibra, pausing: Doesn't it bother you that none of us know our parents?
Scarlett, taken aback: You don't know your parents either? I thought it was just-
Kibra: -You and Clover? No. I came here a few months ago from a coma that lasted a few years. No-one can remember what happened.
Scarlett: Woah. There was another girl here, too. She was like a sister to me. She didn't know her mom or dad. Ha! You know what would be hilarious? If she really was my sister-
Kibra, abruptly shifting behind the corner to avoid some guards: -Shh!
Scarlett, in a more hushed voice: Sorry. Kibra, where are we going?
Kibra, turning to face her: To find some answers.
