"Kerberos, I'm going to Kerberos Y/N! You know awesome that is!!" Matt cheered in excitement as he placed a light kiss on top of your head. "This is gonna be great! Me, Shiro and dad. We're all going."

You smiled lightly at him. It was no secret that Matt had always wanted to explore space. Even from the day you met him, all he would talk about was what could be 'out there'. He was completely fascinated by it. After all, that was what made you fall for him. In your eyes he was such a space nerd as you liked to call him.

"Kerberos...wait isn't that the other side of the solar system?! No way! That's so cool!" You put your hands to your mouth to contain your excitement for your boyfriend.

You both had been going out for almost two years and had loved every moment of it. His kind nature and quick thinking was what drew him to you.

All the months of training for this, and finally the day had come. Today was Matt's last day on earth before the mission.

Everyone was gathered around the ship waiting for the launch.

"It'll take a couple months to get out there and back so you won't see me for a while." In his space suit, Matt smiled at you while pushing his glasses up.

"I'll wait for you. Don't worry." You reassured him.

He wrapped an arm around you and pulled you in close as you both smiled at a camera being pointed your way. As the picture was being taken, you sunk into the warmth of his side and rested your head against his left shoulder taking in his amazing scent.

The picture was taken and he was walking over to the ship. "Promise you'll come back safe." You called out.

He looked back at you nodding. "I promise Y/N and I love you!"

"Go. Be great." You whispered as you watched the take off, tears in your eyes making the ship look like a blur in the sky.

You were heading to the Holt's house to pick up Katie as you were going out together for a trip some place.

You pulled up outside their house and as usual, you heard the barking of their dog start as soon as you knocked on the door. Only this time, you didn't hear the usual annoyed 'ugh shut up' come from Katie.

Again you knocked.

Only the barking.

'Maybe they're not in?' You thought and were about to turn away when the front door opened revealing Matt and Katie's mom, Colleen. Here eyes and nose were red like she had been crying.

A frown instantly displayed itself on your face.

Colleen looked up to see who was at the door. As soon as she saw you- she broke down falling onto your shoulder. The dampness of her tears started to gather on your shoulder.
"I-Matt-Sam..."
She heavily breathed out as you patted her back.
"There was a pilot error and- I'm so sorry Y/N."

There was a brief moment where you put all the letters of her words together. Forming the words hurt, but they had to be known at some point.
He was gone. And there was nothing anyone could have done.
'His promise...'
The memory of him promising to come back safe kept on replaying in your confused mind. Over and over.

A tear rolled down your cold cheek as your breathing became ragged.
"It's okay...you, Katie and me. We'll be okay..."
