The Wolf/ Allura

(Prompt: Write your character into a difficult tense scene, like the fairy tale little red riding hood. Have them run through the story and maybe add your own twist. Character I chose- Allura)

Allura P.O.V

I had only one thought-

I'd be gone maybe an hour?

I'd been to see my father Alfor in the woods a million times before. I didn't think this would have happened...

My best friend Romelle had warned me multiple times of the wolf in the woods and his cunning. His vengeance and strike, that could kill me, and had killed others.

"He lurks in the deepest part of the woods, his mother lures innocent villagers into his path with her magic, and they don't even know it. Then he eats them!"

I hadn't believed her of course- many harmless wolves lived in the forest, and none had attacked the villagers. None.

It was around noon when I left my mother with my basket full of goods. My father had been sick for a few months, moved from the village clinic to a small house in the woods where doctors came and went to check on him. My mother and I aern't sure whats wrong with him but it still breaks my heart to see him slowly crippling with disease.

Somewhere along the trail I got lost.

I'm not sure if I just hadn't been paying attention or if somehow I turned down the wrong path, but I was utterly lost. It almost seemed like the pathway had twisted and contorted, broke itself down to create a new path for me to take. But I kept west like my mother always said.

The scenery became quite unfamiliar to me and the trees didn't sway like they usually did. Before long, my feet began to ache and the sun was getting lower and lower in the sky.

There were no flowers and the sky was darkened with clouds. I continued on though, determined to see my father. The crisp air snatched at my hair as I continued on, the wind picking up violently.

The time seemed to pass endlessly, and soon the sun began to set. I realized I should have turned back when I had the chance but I couldn't now.

Still confused, I finally came across the small cottage just ahead, where my father would be hopefully waiting.

I entered the small home, the wood pealing and the walls holding dust. The rhythmic sound of my fathers rocking chair welcomed me as I bounded the sturdy steps.

"Father? It's Allura." I called out. I entered the bedroom, my father looked...

Horrible, so to speak. His usual smooth brown skin was a deep shade of purple, his eyes a glowing yellow and his smile crooked.

I rushed to his side. "Oh Father, you look awful!"

He lifted a calloused purple hand to my cheek, the bristly hair rough against my skin. "It's the sickness dear." He said shortly, his voice rougher than usual and his smile almost evil.

"Oh." I said quietly, creeping towards his bedside.

"What big ears you have..." I whispered, feeling the curved tip of his ears, wide and hairy, looming over his sad eyes.

"All the better to hear you with." He croaked.

"What big eyes you have." I added, staring into those deep yellow fleeting eyes.

"All. The better. To see you with." He said through gritted teeth.

Teeth that were so sharp.

"What big hands you have."

"All the better to grab you with." He whispered softly.

"What a big mouth you have!" I screeched as he snatched me.

"All the better to eat you with!" He yelled as he opened his huge jaw of teeth.

It was a sea of black down there and I tore away, he bared his fangs and pounced at me- bushy fur covering his body, claws jutting from his purple paws. I screamed, it was the wolf!

"Don't be afraid little one." He mumbled softly, creeping forwards on all fours.

"It'll only hurt a bit.." He said ripping off the messy white medical gown he wore. He leaped at me. But I was faster.

I yanked out the handgun in my basket, the one Romelle had so carefully hidden. I aimed at him and in a split second shot.

He fell backwards with a wail, the bullet nestled in the middle of his hairy forehead, sticky blood dotting the floor around him. His breathing became ragged and slow before it stopped all together.

"Lura..Allura.." I heard the faint call from the other room. I hurried over to see my father binded roughly and thrown in a corner. My real father.

I rushed over and undid his ropes, he looked frail and weak. Sick yes, but not like a wolf.

"Lura..the- the wolf.." He shuddered with fear.

"I know. I know. It's okay." I held him close.

I cursed at myself for not believing Romelle's warnings.
