Countdown
Hunk woke up one morning and got ready for school, no big change in his routine. He got in the car and started driving to school. Almost three minutes in, Hunk almost swerved into an unsuspecting coffee shop. There were numbers over people's heads. A countdown, he realized. Was it for the death date of someone? Hunk steeled his nerves. "It's just a hallucination, not those short stories you read," he told himself. He started driving to his school again, shaking in fear.
He met Lance and Pidge in their usual spot, all nerves and jitters. He could see the numbers above everyone's heads. As Lance walked up, Hunk almost burst into tears, hugging his blue- clad friend tight. The number above Lance's head was an ominous 1. Lance, being very confused, gently patted an upset Hunk's back.
"Chill out dude! Nothing's happened to me! Why're you so upset?" He asked. Hunk couldn't possibly bear to tell Lance what he saw and instead calmed himself.
"Sorry Lance. I'm just emotional. This book I read was so sad and the main character reminds me of you!" He exclaimed, easily lying since this was an often occurrence. Pidge walked over to the two boys, sighing in exasperation.
"Hunk, please get off Lance. You're crushing him!" Hunk sheepishly let go of his friend, Lance taking an exaggerated breath once he was released. "So what happened?" She asked.
"Hunk read a book."
"Hunk! What did we say about books?" Pidge chastised, placing her hands on her hips.
"No sad books."
"And what did you do?"
"I read a sad book." Hunk pouted a little under Pidge's scolding. Even though she was a third of his size, she was still intimidating in her own way. Hunk tended to listen to her for advice and instruction. Lance snickered from off to the side, earning a withering look from Pidge. He quieted down immediately, subdued. Before anyone else could say anything, the bell rang and all the students started to leave for class. Hunk sighed and anxiously noted everyone's numbers as he walked, struggling to remain calm.

"Mr. Garret? Mr. Garret please wake up." Mrs. Crouch slapped a ruler against Hunk's desk. Hunk was staring out the window, thinking about the big 0 over Lance's head. He jumped at the sudden sound, panicking immensely.
"W-what!? What did I do!?" Hunk bit his lip, tears jumping to his eyes on reflex. Mrs. Crouch just sighs and moves on with her lecture. Hunk does his best to focus on her words, but in reality, he's watching in dread as a student's number drops. Hunk is slowly losing it.
By the time lunch rolls around, Hunk is full- blown panicking. He doesn't eat, and his stomach is in turmoil. All he's able to vomit is stomach bile when he tries to relieve the tension. There's no way out. He resorts to reading the whole lunch period.
In his space history class, Hunk sits next to Lance. He seems a bit too interested on something above the brunette's head, but Lance is oblivious. Hunk scans the room for threats and barely pays attention to the notes other than to write them down. He looks out the window at the slightly overcast day, watching the trees blow in the wind. He deems the day as a terrible day to lose his friend on. Hunk scans the room again.
The bell rings all too slowly and Hunk practically shoves Lance out of the door and to the outside. He anxiously waits at the crosswalk, ready to get to his car and get home. He looks around the freshly paved road, at the glistening cars and the uncovered sun. He watches the light turn green. He watches Lance stroll into the crosswalk without so much as a glance left or right. Hunk panics.
"Lance no!!"
To be continued huehuehue.... let me know if you want something silly or sad!
