"You're going to be alive. Quit worrying."
Emmett's calming voice spoke into Violets soft hair as they lay in bed, covered only by a thin sheet the brunette had woken up minutes ago. She hadn't spoken since the moment her eyes had opened to the darkening morning, her concentration on tomorrow's battle. She didn't know what to make out of it, the reality just setting in. There was a potential she could lose some of the people that meant the world to her.
"My life's worth nothing if it doesn't have the people I love Emmett." She spoke up, sounding for once weak. She felt entirely so, like the world was falling apart around her feet the longer the days went by. Soon she would be strapping up and getting ready to fight the very creatures all wanting her blood at their hands. She didn't know what she did to deserve such a cruel death but she supposed that's what came with being the wolves queen.
She still saw herself as Sam Uley's little sister, the girl who up until a year agos best trait was her ability to hold her breath underwater for minutes. Now she was throned the wolf queen with one to many attacks coming her way. A part of her felt guilty for saying it but she didn't want any part of it, the supernatural was tiring and if it weren't for Emmett and her brothers involvement she would have given up a long time ago.
"Well it's a good thing we are all coming out of this alive isn't it darling?" Emmett shifted, using his arms to lift Violet so she sat in his lap and he could look at her heavenly face. One his hand rose against her neck, the of of his thump gently massaging away the frown on her pouty lips. "You heard Jasper, with the wolves on our side there's no way those newborns can win."
"You can't ever be so sure about these things Em. Even the easiest of victories don't come without some difficulties." She sighed right back to him, her eyes locking with his.
"And we will be prepared for whatever it is that's thrown at us. Now come on we have to meet your brother in the meadow." Emmett spoke, changing the subject before Violet grew too wary.
"I seriously am beginning to hate being bait," she groaned, not moving from her spot.
"Yeah well it's either be the best bait you can be or you'll get stuck with Bella and Edward up the mountain." Emmett joked, reminding her of the other option. He would give anything for her to take the latter but the girl would never give in, this was her fight.
"Good god no thank you." Vi's nose crinkled at the mention of the couple. The image enough to have her jumping up and running to her bathroom in preparation for the day. "You might as well serve me up to the newborns right now if that's what you're thinking."

"Remind me again why this is a good idea?" Violet questioned the blonde and brunette Cullen that had accompanied her to the clearing. They now stood into that very spot where Sam would come pick her up. Tonight the fighting Cullens would be going hunting while she would be with her family for the night. Violet already felt tense because of the looming battle and being split from Emmett wasn't making it any better.
"We don't want the newborns going off into a different spot once they are headed this way. Bella's scent was already masked by the wolves and she's already up the mountain now your scent blends in with nature but it's still pretty distinguishable so we are hoping your scent will be masked by the wolves. Tomorrow you'll walk with the wolves the very same way towards this clearing and since the newborns know you'll be with the wolves they'll follow your scent. It'll lead them directly this way." Jasper explained to the short brunette who nodded along to everything he said. He was there to follow the scent and make sure it worked although they were positive it would considering the Cullens barely even knew about Violet before.
"What the fuck is taking Sam so long." Violet huffed, focusing her perfect vision into the dense forest ahead of them where her brother should be coming through. He was going to be the one taking her through the trail back towards the reservation.
Emmett's nose twitched for a split second, his eyes snapping to Jasper who seemed to sense the emotions radiating off the incoming wolf. Jasper nodded slowly to his adoptive brother, confirming that indeed the person coming forward was not welcomed.
Before Emmett could warn his girlfriend the tan boy came through the wolves. Violet's jaw practically dropped, "oh fuck me.... this muse be hell."
Emmett narrowed his eyes, looking at Jacob who cautiously walked towards them. "I thought your job was to take Bella not Violet."
"Change of plans," Jake spoke up, his eyes on Vi who was one second away from tearing him apart. "Sam had to finish things on the Rez, he asked me to do this."
"Oh great." Violet said, her eyes narrowing slightly as her voice was tense. "Well this should be fan-fucking-tastic. We might be one less wolf down after this."
Jake sighed, knowing that this wouldn't be an easy hour but he had to do this. "Look, I will be on my best behavior alright."
Emmett became defensive, his hand that had once been placed leisurely on Violets waist was now clutching at the thin material of her jacket. He knew Violet no longer harbored feelings for the shapeshifter but that didn't stop him from being jealous. He however wasn't going to stand against this safety precaution so he sighed, tilting his mate so they could look at one another. His fingers grazing the soft skin of her jaw. "I'll see you soon alright, after tomorrow this whole thing will be over. You and I will finally get to start living our life with one another. I love you Violet... I love you."
Even though Violet was irritated with her companion for the next hour she smiled at Emmett. He could calm her within seconds and the way his cool breath fanned her face was her form of therapy, his thumbs brushing against her skin was therapeutic. "I love you Polar Bear, I'll see you soon and you better not get your ass kicked by a mountain lion."
Emmett rolled his eyes at her words, pulling her into a kiss as she continued her giggles. He didn't care that there were two people watching them, no, all that mattered was Violet. He wanted to memorize the way her breath caught against his lips, or the way her tiny palms planted themselves against his neck. God, he had never met someone so addicting to his emotions. She was the purest piece of his life and he would preserve her for all eternity if it were possibly.
They pulled apart after a few seconds, Violet holding back a set of tears threatening to escape her. She hated showing weakness, but this was Emmett and she loved him more than she could ever comprehend. Vi smiled at him, pecking his lips once more and pulling away before her body decided to latch onto his buff form for the rest of eternity.
"You better be on your best behavior," Emmett called out. "She won't hesitate to kick your ass."
Jake rolled his eyes, not answering as Violet stomped closer to him. He knew the girl didn't want to be within in ten feet of him and he would lying if he said she didn't frighten him just a tad. Violet was very powerful, she wasn't called the queen of wolves for anything.
He gulped out of instinct, remembering when she had held him down, using only one hand to chock him almost until he fell unconscious.
"Hey Vi," Jake awkwardly spoke.
"Hi," Vi replied right back, her words harsh. "Let's do this."
"This works best when I'm carrying you so..." Jake explained, asking permission cautiously.
"Of course it is," Vi sassed. "Alright, go ahead."
He nodded, placing one hand at the back of her knees and the other in the middle of her back before lifting her into his arms. He smiled at her, remembering at the times he had done this in the past back when they were dating.
"What's so funny?" Vi cocked her head to look at him.
"Nothing I uhh... I just remembered those times in the past when I would pick you up like this." Jake answered with a shrug, his intense eyes meeting her own. "You know..."
Vi had s brief flashback, remembering that yes Jake and her had been in this situation loads of times. She had no shame about it, they were two horny and in love teenagers with loads of time. She thought she was going to love him forever, everyone did. That however didn't mean she was going to say it aloud.
Vi cleared her throat, "I don't recall."
"Oh really?" Jake raised an eyebrow at her.
"You know what on second time I do remember something..." Vi retorted. "Whatever it is that happened after this did not meet any expectations... in fact Jake you should think about checking that out."
Instead of being angry with her he laughed, belted out a loud rumble that in turn made Violet laugh. She had expected some backlash, one of which would end with both of them tearing one another apart in the woods but Jake didn't even flinch at her words.
"God I miss you." Jake said between laughs, now keeping up a steady pace.
Vi felt her laugh cut short, her eyes darting immediately at him, what the hell had he just said? Was he serious? He couldn't be right? They could barely be in the same room without tearing one another apart and now all it was taking was some quality time for them to be buddies again. Violet didn't know what to make of it, how was she suppose to answer that? "What did you just say?"
"Oh not like that." Jake clarified. "I miss just being your best friend, aside from all the sex and love it was us being together Vi. You and I were best friends, we never fought and it was constant jokes between us. Do you remember all those nights we would just spend at the beach laughing our asses off until the sun rose? I miss having you to talk too, I miss hearing you bitch about the little things. I miss just the simplicity of being one another's support system."
Vi was unable to come up with words. In fact, she found herself partly agreeing with him. Before either of them had turned Jacob Black was her best friend, he had been the person she leaned on most other than Sam. There wasn't a moment in the day those two weren't together. He really was one half of her support system and she would be lying if there wasn't times in the day were he would pop into her mind subconsciously. "Yeah but everything changed. Sam and you shifted into wolves... I became whatever I was and you know..."
"You can say it. I know I fucked up, I should have told you from the get go about my feelings for Bella. I really did love you Violet, you were my whole world and I knew I want to marry you... I wanted to have kids with you and grow old but..." Jake drifts off his eyes softening when meeting Vi's.
"But that was before when we were humans. After everything happened and we shifted a part of me knew we weren't going to be together forever but that other part... man it was hard to keep contained. I wanted us to end with one another, I wanted it so bad. I know I shouldn't have been so angry at you about it all. I knew about the imprint long before you did. I guess life has a funny way of playing with us huh?" Violet sighed, smiling gently at her old friend.
"Yeah. Here I am knowing exactly how you felt all those months ago and now you're the one happily ever after. I guess I can't say I blame karma for coming back and biting me in the ass. I deserved it for all the shit I put you through V." He spoke up, using the name she hadn't heard in awhile. Jake called her that from the moment they first met that fateful day on the playground. Her heart ached remembering how happy they had been before falling in love. "I loved and respected you enough to have ended things differently V. I'm sorry I was a dick about it all and I'm sorry I still am a dick sometimes."
Violet almost felt tears threatening to escape her eyes. She sighed, patting him against the cheek with her small palm. "No sense in fixing the past Jake, it's better to work for the future. For what it's worth I forgive you. I'm over it all. Those months I spent alone really helped me master independence and being with Emmett has shown me I shouldn't have settled for heartache... I deserved better. I deserved him. Just like you deserve better."
Jake winced slightly, not going unnoticed by Violet who knew the boy was still holding out hope for Bella. She didn't have the heart to tell him that was a lost cause... but he would eventually learn. Jake's eyes drifted amongst the trees for a slim second before settling back on her. "Can I ask you something? And you won't get mad?"
Violet nodded. "Sure, I guess."
"What do you see coming from your relationship with hi—Emmett... he's stuck as a teenager for the rest of his life and you're... well no one knows if you'll age or not. What happens if you do though? Would you turn to become like him?" Jake questioned, sounding genuinely curious about the mechanics of their relationship.
"I don't know and honestly I don't think I want to. I know there's a possibility of me growing old and I know there's a possibility of my age slowing down but I think we all know my life's going to come to an end one day. I've learned to stop asking so many questions about my life and take my chances. I don't think the immortal life is cut for me but who knows." Violet shrugged her shoulders innocently. It was the truth, before when she had first imprinted on the werewolf she hasn't quite known what to think. How the hell would their relationship work? Emmett would forever be immortal and she wouldn't eventually age. As the days progressed and she began to fall in love with the bear like man the brunette stopped caring. Life would decide for her.
"You know I'm not just doing this for Bella. I'm doing this for you too. I love Bella but I love you too Vi, how could I not? You were my first love." Jake's voice was soft, endearing as his gaze settled on the brunette and she remembered all those times his eyes could very well light the deepest of her emotions.
She cleared her throat, "Jake you know very well I don't need saving. I've never been your damsel in distress."
"No, no you've never been. Bella needs saving, but you... you need to be watched because there's no telling just what you could do. I know you Violet, I know that you're capable of having the world at your fingertips. The only problem with that is there has to be someone there willing to hold you back from killing yourself. And that's not saving." Jake reassured the girl.
One of Violets eyebrows rose up in question, "and you're not the first boy to want to keep me in check Jacob Black. Sam and the whole pack thinks I'm a danger to myself and my temper will get the best of me. Emmett's different though, he lets me be me. He knows I can handle myself and he doesn't hold me back from doing stupid things.... well most stupid things. I love him for it all. I don't think I've ever loved someone the way I love him."
"That's good for you, but that doesn't mean I won't keep my eyes on you." Jake says back, tightening his hold on her. "You're still my best friend."
"I know."

"You sure do know how to keep your troops in line Commander." Violet teased her older brother as she watched the wolves disperse for the night after Sam spoke to them. Her talk with Jacob had been lighthearted after they had cleared the air between one another, she was elated to know there was no longer bad blood between her and the boy. She had missed him for months and it was nice they would at the very least begin to repair their relationship. It would in no way be the same one they had in the past but there was a sense of familiarity between her and the wolf that she had longer for. She was actually looking forward to the after effects of the war now which just made her even more nervous for the battle. She hadn't stopped pacing since arriving to her brothers house, even having Emily's company couldn't stop he restless mind.
Instead of being stuck in her room and eating away her nerves she decided to make herself useful and help her brother. Now she had come upon him talking to the wolves taking patrol for the night, mainly ordering them to watch the perimeters of the reservation and anyone who was staying tomorrow to be ready in case of anything.
Sam turned to look at her, his trademark frown plastered across his face. Violet could swear the worry lines would be permanently etched across his skin as she couldn't remember a day in their lives they hadn't ever been present. Even as a young child Sam always seemed to care for the world before remembering that he had needs as well.
"I think the term you're looking for is alpha Vi." Sam retorted, walking crossing his arms over his chest. "How are you doing?"
"What? With the whole impending doom thing? Oh, I'm just dandy. Not everyday some vampire sends a whole army to kill me, I should feel honored." Violet sassed her brother, casually throwing her long hair over her shoulder as to show her brother how casual she felt.
"Vi." Sam sighed, his eyes immediately detecting the lie. She could lie to the world and they would believe her but this was Sam, she couldn't hide a thing. "Seriously. You've been through a lot in the last few weeks and not everything has been as glorious as you make it seem."
Her coffee brown eyes drifted from her parental figure, searching the tree for comfort and security. The brunette knew lying was useless when it came to Sam, he was always one step ahead of her. "You know, I never ever thought our lives would come to this. God, I wish our biggest problem was still dealing with dad leaving and mom dying. Then I understood it all, it was easier to cope with that loss but this... its hell Sammy. How am I suppose to live going on knowing that you could die tomorrow? Or Jake, Quil any of the wolves? It feels like there's this cloud over my head just waiting to rain down on me with guilt and grief. I don't want anything to happen to you Sammy, I couldn't live without you giving me shit about my life."
Sam could tell Violet was on the verge of tears, the way her thin arms wrapped themselves tightly against her torso like it would keep her whole. He didn't hesitate to bring her into his arms, her arms latching themselves onto his skin. Violet knew she kept a facade most days and there was times where she could barely stand being near her brother but she loved him so much. Sam was her original family and he would forever be stuck in that position. Even imagining his death could send her into a panic attack. They stayed together for a moment longer, Violet pulling back after another second.
"You're going to be okay Vi, we are all going to be okay."
"Sammy you can't ever know that."
