Chapter 4: The Girl in Red Part 4

(First Person)

(Alice's POV)

I stood there, staring wide eyed at the last message that had popped up, two lines repeating themselves over and over in my head.

Alice Cross, you've just joined the war. Have fun.

"War? What war? How can you have fun during...War?" I muttered frantically, genuinely confused. First off, who was the unknown number? An interested party, sure, but interested in Mikaela?

Suspicious.

Second, I didn't join any war. We purebloods aren't allowed to sign up, or even be drafted.

I dropped the phone on the counter and sank into a chair, now staring at the wall.

Was this supposed war connected with Mikaela? That whole conversation was centered around Mikaela. Did she have an enemy or something?

I snorted quite loudly. Yeah right. People like her don't have enemies.

Ding!

Another text. I wasn't going to answer it, even if it was my mother.

Ding!

I sighed and stood up. Snatching the phone off the stove, I turned on the screen to find yet another unknown number. Apparently, associating with Mikaela Amemiya goes hand in hand with receiving unknown texts. Next, it'll probably get me killed.

'Come to Room 550 if available. ~MA'

MA? Who in the...

I continued reading the little green thought-like bubbles.

'You're an idiot so I'll explain. MA stands for Mikaela Amemiya.'

"How'd she get my number?! I exploded, finally fed up. I take back what I said about Mikaela earlier. Someone like her would definitely have enemies.

Ding!

'If not available, come anyway.'

The nerve!

(Mikaela's POV)

Alice stormed through the door, her eyes blazing and her face a thunderstorm. "You do frickin' realize that I was on the other side of campus?! What was with the rude texts?"

Oh. So she's a ticking time bomb. Brilliant.

I held out my hand, indifferent, and once again scoffing mentally at human nature. "Give me your phone."

Abbi Watson snickered but didn't say anything.

Alice continued to glare darkly at me. She opened her mouth in fury, then thought against it. Closing it and then opened it. Like a gold fish. Funny, humans reminded me of one.

Alice then said slowly, "You brought me here so I could give you my phone."

Obviously. There was no need to repeat what I had asked.

I extended my arm further. The phone.

She rolled her eyes to heaven and shoved her hand into her pocket. Muttering rude comments, she drew out the flat device and practically chucked it at me.

I snatched it out of the air as it flew past and then said, "On her desk is her email. Tell me it."

Alice stubbornly crossed her arms. "Why can't you use your phone, genius?"

"My number's on the website and also is available on other things....Unfortunately. Now, the email."

"Abbi's closer to it. Have her get it."

Ms Watson didn't move a muscle. Just sat in the high chair with her legs crossed and her hands folded on top of her knee.

"Do you have the email yet?" I asked impatiently.

"Hang on!" Alice padded to the desk and read the email, her voice strangely flat. "Mysteryanimemaniac at yahoo dot uk. She liked anime. That's strange."

I typed in the email address and then threw the phone back at Alice, who barely caught it.

"What's this for?"

"I want you to type it."

"Why me?"

I stood up and brushed my dress pants off. "I want you to write What exactly happened at Mirror Hall? You must've missed my vitals. Meet me in front of Autumn Campus Hospital." I threw open the bathroom door against the wall and all the cabinets and other doors throughout the dorm. I had to listen for the ring; it was the only way.

It's boring to try and search the whole entire apartment, including the nooks and crannies.

"Missed your vitals?" Alice repeated, her voice skeptical.

"What? No. No!" I jumped off the table. "The vitals, yes, but not mine. Have you finished yet?"

"Noo. Hang on...Wait a minute." The little taking noises stopped. "Mikaela!"

I poked my head out of Emily's bedroom door, as I threw the book I had picked up back onto the dresser. "Yes?"

"I'm texting a murderer!"

I sighed and rolled my eyes. Took you that long to figure out? Most gold fish it would've been much, much longer. "Have you finished typing it yet?"

"HANG ON, I SAID!!!"

I ducked back into the bedroom.

Bloop.

I waited. No tell-tale ding! penetrated the silence that ensued. Anywhere.

Then my hunch was correct.

I felt my face stretching into a smile as I turned on my phone. I tapped the Mail app, then the New Message. Clicking the email I wanted, I started to type.

'The murderer has the phone. Track it. ~MA'

Whoosh!

I shut the screen off and pocketed it. If I didn't hurry, then I would miss my date with a killer.

Ding!

Assuming it was mine, I ignored it. Probably my annoying mother asking annoying and stupid questions. It definitely wouldn't be Lockwood, responding so early.

Walking out of the room, I passed Alice who was staring at her own device and Watson sitting in the high chair, in the same pose as when I left the main room.

I was almost to the door when Alice said: "Mikaela, look at this." She held the phone up, it's little screen bright.

I walked closer and snatched the device away. In the last little gray bubble, it read:

'I never miss, nor fail. Now, another death will occur. Who will it be? Wait and see. But I'll be at the rendezvous. Can you spot me?'

The assassin obviously. Who else?

I waved the phone away, unconcerned. "Sometimes the best way to catch a killer is for other to die."

A/N: I've changed how the texts look, just in case you have noticed. It's in bold, so I'll put A/N in front of everything I say for now on, okay?
