Character Teaser - "Meaning of Family"

The sun hangs low over New Eridu, casting long shadows across the city's narrow streets. The sounds of the bustling city are ever-present, but in this particular alleyway, it's quieter, almost too quiet. Standing hidden in the shadows is a man in his mid twenties

He's dark skinned of a tall and athletic build, has brown eyes, short black logs in a buzzcut. He wears a black two piece tactical suit under a black leather trench coat with a silver machine like contraption strapped to his back, shoulder pads, black elbow length metal gauntlets and knee length metal boots.

Anyways, he's seen observing the scene unfolding in front of him.

A group of police officers is gathered around a pile of battered and bruised criminals, some groaning in pain, others too knocked out to make a sound. The dude watches as the officers exchange puzzled glances, trying to piece together what happened. It was his handiwork, a clean sweep of a gang that had been terrorizing the neighborhood. He allows himself a moment of satisfaction before turning his back on the scene.

"Not bad for a night's work." he said to himself with a smirk.

With a briefcase in hand, The guy walks deeper into the alleyway, away from the scene, his trenchcoat flowing freely behind him. He keeps his pace steady, blending into the shadows as he moves. The city's pulse beats in his ears, a rhythm he's long since learned to dance to. He's done this countless times, but tonight feels different, like something's in the air.

As he nears the end of the alley, his phone buzzes in his pocket. He pulls it out, the screen lighting up with a familiar name-his sister. A smile tugs at his lips as he answers the call, his voice softening instantly. "Hey, sis. What's up?"

"Just checking in. You sound out of breath. Did you take on another side job?" a female voice comes out of the end as it sounds playful yet tired

He chuckles. "You know me too well. Just wrapped up a little...cleanup. How's the commission? Any progress?"

He steps out of the alleyway and into the main street, the noise of the city embracing him again. He walks toward a food stall, the aroma of freshly baked pizza wafting through the air.

"Yeah, I'm almost done. Should be back in a few days, I think. Just need to tie up some loose ends. How are Mom and Dad? Did you visit them today?"

The brother reaches the stall and gestures to the vendor, who already knows his order-a large pepperoni pizza. The vendor nods and begins preparing it.

"Yeah, stopped by earlier. They're good, just the usual. Mom's still worrying about you, though. Keeps asking when you'll finally settle down, get a decent job and stop taking these dangerous jobs." he replied.

His sister laughs softly. "She says the same to you, you know. You're the one she's really worried about."

He sighs, his expression softening as he listens to his sister's voice. He leans against the stall, waiting for the pizza to be ready. "I know. But you and I both know we can't just sit back and do nothing. This city... it's in our blood, sis. We've got to look out for each other and for them."

"I know. And we will. Just... be careful, okay? I want you in one piece when I get back."

The vendor hands him the pizza box, its warmth seeping through the cardboard. He thanks the vendor with a nod and begins the short walk back home, the briefcase of cash still secured.

The brother grins "Always. You take care too, alright? And when you're back, we'll plan something nice. Maybe even a family dinner, if we can get everyone in the same place."

"Sounds like a plan. Stay safe, Taye. I'll see you soon."

"You too, sis. Talk to you later."

He ends the call, slipping the phone back into his pocket. With the pizza in hand and a small smile on his lips, the guy identified as Taye continues his walk through the city. The weight of the cash reminds him of the necessity of his work, but the warmth from the pizza box in his hand, and the recent conversation with his sister, remind him of the importance of family.

As he approaches his house, the sun dips further, casting the neighborhood in a warm, orange glow. Taye feels the day's fatigue settling in, but the thought of home and a warm meal drives him forward. He reaches the front door, pushing it open with a creak, revealing the cozy, albeit cluttered, living room.

As Taye steps inside, his senses sharpen. Something is different-someone is here. His eyes scan the room, and he freezes when he spots an alluring woman sitting comfortably in one of his chairs, legs crossed, exuding an air of confidence. It's Nicole Demara, the infamous leader of the Cunning Hares. The air between them crackles with an unspoken energy, as if the room itself acknowledges the weight of this encounter.

"Evening, handsome. I hope you don't mind me making myself at home," she smirks, her eyes locking onto his.

For a moment, Taye is caught off guard. It's not every day that the most cunning operator in New Eridu makes an unannounced visit. His eyes quickly take in her appearance: her relaxed posture, voluptuous figure which he found distracting, the subtle confidence in her smirk, the way her gaze lingers on him. Despite the situation, he feels an inexplicable pull, an attraction that's as instant as it is mutual.

Taye keeps his cool, though his heart races "Can't say I was expecting company tonight. You here to steal from me, or should I be worried about something else?"

Nicole chuckles, her voice smooth and teasing. She uncrosses her legs and leans forward slightly, her eyes never leaving his. "Steal? Now why would I do that when there's something far more interesting right in front of me? I'm just here to talk, get to know you better. Maybe even find out what makes Taye Okoro tick."

Taye drops his briefcase as he then sets the pizza box on the coffee table, his guard still up but curiosity piqued. He remains standing, arms folded, as he studies her, trying to decipher her true intentions. There's something about her presence that makes it hard to look away, an allure that goes beyond her beauty.

"And what if I'm not interested in talking?" Taye asks calmly

Nicole rises from the chair, her movements graceful and deliberate. She takes a step closer, closing the distance between them, her eyes sparkling with mischief.

"But you are interested, aren't you? Otherwise, you wouldn't still be standing here, talking to me." she said softly.

Taye can't help the small smirk that forms on his lips. She's right, of course. There's something about her that draws him in, a mystery that he feels compelled to unravel. So with politeness, he invites her to take a seat as he sits on the couch but Nicole chooses to sit right next to him, much to his embarrassment.

"Alright, Nicole. You've got my attention. What do you want to know?" he asks.

Her head tilted slightly, that same mischievous glint in her eyes as she watched him intently. She'd shifted closer, pressing against his side as she hugged his right arm between her breasts, making it nearly impossible for him to focus.

"Come on now, handsome. You can't just sit there like a rock. Tell me something about yourself-something fun. What do you actually like?" said Nicole playfully.

Taye's lips twitched into a faint smirk, though his face was notably warmer. He glanced away, trying not to lose himself in her gaze.

He clears his throat. "I mean... nothing too crazy. I like pizza, tinkering with tech in my spare time, some parkour to keep sharp. Oh, and old action movies. Can't go wrong with a good one-liner."

Nicole grinned, her teasing tone unrelenting. "Old action movies? Huh. Let me guess-you're the quiet tough guy type who never lets them see you sweat, right?"

Taye exhaled sharply, shaking his head with a chuckle. "Something like that."

She leaned in closer, her voice softening, the playfulness in her tone giving way to genuine curiosity. "And why do you do it, Taye? The vigilante work, the risks you take. What drives you?"

The question hit deeper than he expected. For a moment, the smirk faded as memories crept back-the ruins, the chaos, the screams. He took a slow breath before answering, his voice low but steady. "Because I know what it's like to lose everything."

Nicole's teasing demeanor paused, her expression shifting to something more serious as she watched him. Taye glanced down at his hands before continuing.

"I was a kid when the Hollow Disaster emerged. My family barely made it out alive. We lost friends... people we cared about. We left everything behind just to survive. After that, we decided we'd do whatever it took to keep our parents safe. Providing for them-making sure they never had to see another day like that-became everything."

Nicole stayed quiet, her gaze softening as the weight of his words hung in the air. Then, as if breaking the tension deliberately, she smiled and leaned back slightly, still close but facing him directly.

"You're a good man, Taye. You've got the drive, the skill, and the heart. And you know what?" she said softly.

Before Taye could respond, her grin turned sly again. She released his arm, only to tap him lightly on the chest with a fingertip. "Congratulations."

Taye blinked, confused. "What?"

Nicole smirks. "You're hired. Welcome to the Cunning Hares."

His brow furrowed as realization dawned on him, his stunned expression drawing a triumphant laugh from Nicole.

"Wait-this was an interview? That's what this was all about?" he said incredulously.

Nicole grins, leaning closer again. "Of course. But let's be honest-you were having a good time."

Taye ran a hand down his face, flustered but unable to stop the small smile tugging at his lips as he grumbles, "You've got a strange way of interviewing people, you know that?"*

Nicole laughed again, standing up and looking down at him with that same confidence she always carried. "Nope. just you alone are a special case, handsome. Trust me-it's going to be fun having you around."

As Nicole steps back, preparing to leave, Taye realizes that his life is about to change in ways he never imagined. And for the first time in a long while, he feels a surge of excitement, of anticipation for what's to come.

Taye shook his head, muttering to himself "What did I just get myself into...?"

Taye Character Demo - "Di Masta of Scatta"

We now see two digital blue eyes of a bangboo, a small bunny-eared robot and a very good companion. So, this bangboo witnessed two unconscious thugs dragged across the rooftop by two figures-Billy, the energetic android, and Taye Okoro, the calm, electrified bruiser-with casual ease, leaving them propped against an air vent. They stopped near a dusty skylight, peering into the dimly lit factory below where thugs wandered obliviously.

"Ah man, I love missions like this. Just you, me, and a bunch of guys who don't know we're about to kick their butts. So, new guy-what do you think of the team?" said Billy.

Taye knelt by the security wire box, his hands already working to insert a flash drive. Without looking up, he smirked faintly. "Well, you're fun to be around, Billy. You're like... a BFF with an unlimited battery pack."

Billy's grin widened, even though he didn't have a mouth, "Best friends forever! I knew it!"

Taye chuckles "Anby... I feel like I should look after her. Like a big brother. She seems tough, but someone's gotta keep her safe."

"Aww, that's sweet. What about Nicole?"

Taye paused, casting a glance at Billy before returning to his work. "Easy on the eyes. Surprised no one's asked her out yet."

Billy leaned closer, teasing. "What's stopping you, huh? Wanna volunteer?"

Before Taye could respond, the loud voice of the bangboo cut in, his cocky tone laced with amusement. "Abeg, no mind am, Billy! You no go believe, but since dat day wey Nicole show for our house, Bros T no gree close mouth! E just dey talk, pa pa pa, like parrot! 'She fine this, she beautiful that!'"
(Translate: "Don't mind him, Billy! You won't believe it, but since the day Nicole came to our house, Bro. T hasn't stopped talking! He's been going on and on like a parrot: 'She's fine this, she's beautiful that!'")

Taye froze mid-action, his jaw tightening as he tried to suppress the embarrassment creeping up his neck. The Pidgin English speaking Bangboo wasn't done yet as he turned towards the human with mock sincerity, "Oya now, Bros T. If you like am so, why you no just marry am? Abi you dey fear ring?"
(Translate:"Alright then, Bros T. If you like her so much, why not just marry her? Or are you scared of a ring?")

Billy burst out laughing, nearly dropping one of his revolvers. Taye, on the other hand, let out a sharp exhale, his patience clearly running thin.

"BamBam... if you don't shut up your mouth this second, I will tear you in half. Slowly." said Taye with a glare.

BamBam threw his hands up dramatically, feigning fear, "Ah-ah! Oga, no vex! Na joke o! I dey loyal!"
(Translate: "Hey, no offense! I was just joking! I'm loyal!")

Billy was practically doubled over with laughter by now, clutching his stomach. "Oh, man! I love you guys!"

Taye shook his head, muttering under his breath as he returned to his task, how he was able to put up with his bangboo for this long, no-one knows.

Taye finished connecting the flash drive to the box, his watch vibrating softly to confirm the live feed had been sent to his computer back home. He tapped the device with a satisfied smirk.

"Anyway, I've patched the cameras. This way, we'll have the whole fight recorded-properly this time." said Taye

Billy defended himself indignantly, "Hey, Nicole told me to record last time!"

Taye raised an eyebrow, "Not what I heard from her. She also said you left her and Anby to deal with a lot of guys while you were trying to find the 'best angles.'"

Billy opened his mouth to defend himself, gesturing wildly, when a feminine, calm, deadpan voice broke through their earpieces.

"You three know we can hear you, right?"

The group froze. Taye winced, his fingers hovering above the flash drive. Billy looked vaguely guilty, his earlier bravado disappearing in an instant. BamBam's digital eyes widened, his glowing circuits flickering as if caught red-handed.

"Ah! Nobody tell me dem dey listen! Na play we dey play o!" said BamBam quickly.
(Translate: "Wow, I didn't know people were listening! We're just joking around!")

Before anyone could respond, another voice, smooth and amused, joined the comms.

"Oh, don't stop on my account. I'm particularly enjoying BamBam's recap of Taye's... let's call it admiration for me. Please, continue."

Taye's face turned beet red as he shot a death glare at BamBam.

"You are so dead." Taye hissed.

BamBam shrugged with exaggerated innocence, a mischievous glint in his digital eyes, "Wetin I do? I dey tell truth, no be crime!"
(Translate: "What did I do? I'm just speaking the truth-it's not a crime!")

Billy, struggling to suppress laughter, patted Taye's shoulder. "Hey, man, look on the bright side. At least she knows you think she's easy on the eyes."

Taye buried his face in his hands, groaning as Nicole's laughter echoed softly through the comms.

"Careful, Billy. Or I might just ask BamBam what you think about me next." said Nicole.

Billy immediately stiffened, his face now mirroring Taye's earlier panic.

Billy: "No need! We're good! Moving on!"

BamBam grinned "Oh, make I tell una! Him dey call you-"
(Translate: "Oh, let me tell you! He's been calling you-")

"BamBam! Shut up!" The Bangboo laughed raucously, clearly enjoying the chaos he'd sown, while Taye returned to his work, muttering threats under his breath. "I really need to invest in a mute button for you..."

Taye straightened, walking over to grab a grenade from one of the unconscious thugs' belts. He pulled the pin with practiced ease.

"Let's get their attention." he muttered.

He dropped the grenade through the skylight, the clatter below causing a ripple of shouts.

Billy stood up, vibrating with excitement. "Oh! Oh! Can we do the Starlight Knights transformation? Just this once?"

Taye glanced at Billy, already regretting the next few seconds of his life, but he shrugged with a faint smirk. "Fine. Just this once."

With synchronized timing, the three of them leapt through the skylight just as the grenade exploded, the blast sending a shockwave through the factory. Smoke curled around them as they landed-Taye kneeling, fists to the ground, blue electric plasma crackling around his arms that were fitted with chassis with blue lines running along the metal, while Billy struck a dramatic pose, twin revolvers drawn and BamBam rose up in his materialized mech as it raised it's fists in a combat stance.

Billy called out, "Starlight Knight Alpha!"

Taye called out, "Starlight Knight Omega!"

BamBam called out, "Starlight Knight Werey!"

They stood back to back, surrounded by thugs who looked at each other in bewilderment.

"Fear not, evildoers! We're here to put you to bed." said Billy to the crowd.

Anby then spoke over comms, "This sounds ridiculous. But also kind of cool."

"Make we scatter di place!" yelled a hyped up BamBam.
(Translate: "Let's tear this place up!")

The first thug charged. Taye turned and smashed his electrified fist into the guy's stomach, sending him sprawling with a shockwave. A second thug swung a crowbar at his head, but Taye ducked effortlessly, grabbing the attacker's arm and flipping him over his shoulder. Mid-flip, Taye discharged a pulse of blue energy, knocking the man into three others.

Billy, meanwhile, moved like a dancer, firing non-lethal energy rounds with pinpoint accuracy. He twirled, ducked, and somersaulted over crates while cracking jokes.

"Come on, guys! I'm an android! I don't even need to breathe, and you're still this slow?" taunted Billy.

He holstered one revolver mid-spin, grabbed a wrench off a table, and flung it at a thug about to blindside Taye.

"Heads up, buddy!"

Taye caught the momentary distraction, nodding gratefully as he electro-punched another thug into a stack of boxes.

BamBam was in his element-or rather, his mech was. The summoned machine towered over the chaos, its servos whirring and ether-fueled circuits glowing a fiery red. The mech moved with BamBam's brash energy, punching through crates and scattering thugs like bowling pins.

BamBam laughed maniacally, "Dis na warm-up! Who dey next?!"
(Translate: "This is just a warm-up! Who's next?!")

One brave thug decided to test his luck, charging with a metal pipe. BamBam's mech casually caught the swing mid-air, the impact reverberating like a gong.

BamBam mocked "You tink sey na toothpick you dey carry? My mech dey hungry!"
(Translate: "Don't you think you're carrying a toothpick? My mech is hungry!")

With a flick of the mech's wrist, the thug went flying into a stack of barrels, eliciting a low whistle from Billy. "Remind me never to get on your bad side, BamBam."

"Good plan, my guy. But you sef, you no fit reach my level."
(Translate: "Good idea, bro. But even you can't reach my level.")

The mech's shoulder-mounted cannon powered up with a high-pitched whine, and BamBam unleashed a barrage of non-lethal energy blasts into the crowd, causing widespread panic. Thugs scrambled in every direction, tripping over each other to get away.

Taye called out to his bangboo "BamBam! Less destruction, more precision!"

BamBam scoffed "Precision no dey sweet! Na scatter we dey scatter dem!"
(Translate: "Precision isn't exciting! We're all about chaos!")

Taye sighed, delivering a perfectly timed roundhouse kick to a thug trying to sneak up on him. He glanced back at BamBam, who was now spinning the mech in a wide circle, sending more thugs flying.

Spotting a laptop near the gang leader's makeshift desk, Taye sprinted over, sliding under a swinging pipe and discharging a plasma burst that floored his attacker. He flipped open the laptop, inserted a second flash drive, and his fingers flew across the keyboard.

"Bro, are you checking your emails now?" asked Billy who tool notice of him.

"No. Just something personal... but beneficial." Taye replied.

As he worked, one thug lunged at him from behind. Taye slammed the laptop shut and smashed it into the attacker's face, spinning into a perfect roundhouse kick that sent the man flying.

Nicole's voice came through their comms. "Package secured. Rendezvous point-now."

Billy shot two more thugs in the knees before bolting. "Race ya!"

Taye retrieved his flash drive, vaulted over a crate, and activated his thrusters, flying forward in pursuit while BamBam charged beside him. They fought their way through stragglers with stunning precision-their quirks complimenting each other as one dealt with a goon, the other moved ahead to deal with another as they moved like a well oiled machine.

Suddenly, a massive brute of a thug appeared, his fist coming down like a hammer towards Billy. Taye, seeing it just in time, immediately dashed forward in front of Billy and skidded to a halt, thrusting his hands forward to activate his plasma shield, blocking the punch just in time. BamBam's mech capitalized on the moment, stepping in to deliver a devastating punch that sent the thug skidding back across the factory floor. The brute, however, merely wiped his mouth and straightened, clearly ready for more.

Billy panted, glancing at Taye "Okay, big guy's tougher than he looks. What's the plan?"

Taye's eyes narrowed at the brute "We hit hard and fast. Keep him off balance. BamBam-"

BamBam cut him off, "Plan? No need! Na three of us dey here, and na only one small boy dey there. Wetin him fit do with dat him head wey resemble coconut?"
(Translate: "A plan? No need! It's three of us against one little guy. What can he do with that coconut-shaped head of his?")

As soon as he said this, two other massive brutes appeared from behind the first one, flanking him with their weapons drawn. Taye and Billy slowly turned to glare at BamBam, who sheepishly stepped back inside his mech, raising the mech's hands in mock surrender.

"Ah-ah! No be my fault! I no summon dem!"
(Translate: "Hey, it's not my fault! I didn't summon them!")

Taye pinched the bridge of his nose, muttering under his breath. "Why do I even bother?"

"Okay, three-on-three. It's not that bad, right?" said a nervous Billy.

"Actually, you two might want to step back from this one. I'll finish this myself." Said Taye.

As he stepped forward, crossed his arms in an X formation over his chest, channeling all of his electric and plasma energy into his arms. Just as the brutes charged towards him, He then unleashed his arms, sending out a massive X-shaped wave of blue plasma energy forward, causing a bit of destruction on that side of the building.

The explosion of blue plasma energy erupted with a deafening roar, tearing through the air and sending debris flying in every direction. The three brutes were caught mid-charge, the X-shaped wave slamming into them with the force of a freight train. They were launched backward, crashing into walls, crates, and each other before collapsing into a groaning heap.

The energy dissipated, leaving a scorched path in its wake. Smoke curled up from the epicenter as Taye stood there, arms still crackling with residual electricity. His chest heaved with exertion, and his narrowed eyes scanned the wreckage to confirm the brutes were down for the count.

Billy and BamBam stared in stunned silence, mouths slightly agape.

Billy blinked "Okay... remind me never to make you mad."

BamBam: peeked out from his mech, awestruck, "Kai! Baba, na you be oga for this place o. Who fit touch you?"
(Translate: "Man, you're the boss here. Nobody can touch you!")

Taye rolled his shoulders, his voice calm but laced with an edge of exhaustion. "You two better keep up next time."

Billy, ever the showman, holstered his revolvers with a flourish and gestured grandly toward the factory doors. "After you, O Mighty Starlight Knight Omega."

Taye rolled his eyes but couldn't suppress a small chuckle as he walked ahead. BamBam's mech stomped along beside them, its glowing circuits dimming slightly now that the battle was over.

"Next time, una go gimme time to do my own final blow. Make dem sabi say na Werey dey run dis town." said BamBam
(Translate: "Next time, let me do my own finishing move so they know it's Werey who runs this town.")

"Next time, try not to summon more problems, and maybe we'll let you." snarked Taye.

As BamBam's towering mech shimmered and retracted back into its etheric core, leaving the small, cocky bangboo standing there with his arms crossed, Billy clapped his hands together, his eyes beaming.

Billy wiped fake tears from his eyes as he pulled Taye into a hug "You two... you've truly made my day. No-scratch that-this has been the most memorable moment as the Starlight Knights. Just like that one episode! I couldn't ask for better comrades. I mean it. My circuits are overwhelmed."

Taye was half-laughing, half-sighing as he patted Billy's shoulder, "Alright, alright. You're overdoing it now. And let go before BamBam decides to join in."

"Why I go join? Na una dey do bromance. I dey here dey flex as the real MVP!" said BamBam.
(Translate: "Why would I join? You guys are doing bromance. I'm here flexing as the real MVP!")

Before Taye could respond, the sound of screeching tires filled the air. A familiar white car skidded to a stop in front of them, its headlights flashing briefly as if signaling them to move. The boys didn't need to be told. BamBam and Taye both slid into the back seat, Billy practically diving in beside them with exaggerated flair, landing half on Taye's lap before getting shoved aside.

"Ow! Watch it! This is a priceless chassis, you know." said Billy.

Nicole started the car as soon as the doors shut, tires screeching as they peeled away just as faint police sirens were heard. Taye leaned forward, resting his forearm on the back of the passenger seat where Anby was seated, addressing Nicole.

"How'd it go on your end?"

Nicole kept her eyes on the road, her voice calm but firm. "Package secured. Anby neutralized the guards without breaking a sweat."

"Efficiency is key." said Anby.

"Speaking of which, what was that about the huge missing chunk of that building we just saw?" asked Nicole.

Taye leaned back into his seat, rubbing the back of his neck. His voice was calm but carried a tinge of guilt. "Let's just say... the brutes didn't leave me much of a choice. Besides, the wall was poorly constructed. Probably wouldn't have lasted another year."

Nicole raised an eyebrow, sparing him a quick glance in the rearview mirror, her expression unimpressed. "So you're a demolition expert now?"

Billy snickered, as he chimed in, "To be fair, it was epic. Like, cinematic-level destruction. You should've seen it."

Anby deadpanned from the passenger seat. "We did see it. It was loud enough to wake the entire district."

BamBam leaned back with arms crossed "Leave my guy alone! Him dey give us Hollywood vibes! Na so hero suppose dey roll."
(Translate: "Leave my guy alone! He's giving us Hollywood vibes! That's how a hero should roll.")

Nicole sighed, her frustration tempered by the slight upward twitch of her lips. The chaos of their missions often left her exasperated, but she couldn't deny the team's effectiveness-or their charm.

"Next time, Taye, try leaving the property intact. We don't want the cops adding a demolition charge to our list." she said.

Taye smirked faintly, shrugging as he adjusted his coat. "Noted."
