Our First Night
Will and I end up being at the arcade in the hotel lobby for minutes before returning to our room. Not surprisingly, my mother is still there staring out the window. My twin and I file back into our bedroom where we both lay on our beds. I exhale smoothly through my mouth and place my arm over my eyes. I wish that all this would just be over with already so I could go back home. The sooner I graduate from highschool, the sooner I can become the head of a company. I chuckle softly and shake my head. As if I could do that. I'll most likely go into some job where I can be alone and do my work in silence. I yawn, it's late back home I'm sure. Especially since my party animal of a brother is tired too.
"Alex?" My twin calls from above me, breaking my line of thought.
"Yes?" I call back, moving my arm from my eyes in case he's just being weird in some way.
"Are you worried about mom and dad?" He questions back. His tone is soft, almost as if he is expressing a deep sorrow.
"Worried about what?" I reply. Will releases a sigh and I can hear his upset mood already. My brother always has been more of a feeling person than a thinking one.
"That they'll get a divorce. They aren't exactly close. What if dad finds someone new and just leaves mom?" Will questions, his head now hanging over the edge of the top bunk so he looks down at me. I sigh and sit up in my bed, leaning on my arm.
"That won't happen, dad doesn't make relationships with each girl. Plus he wouldn't do that to us." I explain, locking my eyes with the identical ones of my brother.
"Next year it won't matter. We're gonna be moving out by then." Will states while shaking his head.
"Still, none of the girls actually mean anything." I argue, still shaking my head slightly.
"What if one of them do?" Will asks me, almost breathlessly. He has a lump in his throat and is trying not to cry. I can tell almost instantly when he speaks to me. I shake my head and lay back down on my bed, locking eyes with my brother.
"None of that could happen, Will. Just go to bed, some sleep always clears your head." I tell him, rolling over so I don't need to stare back at my twin anymore.
"Yeah, you're right. Goodnight, little brother." Will chuckles softly. I hear him move around above me and the blankets being pulled. I grab my own and pull them up to my shoulders so I might sleep. I close my eyes and release a sigh before forcing myself into sleep.

I awake to the sound of what seems like a loud pounding. I jolt upwards and scan the room with my eyes for the source of the noise. Will jumps down from the top bunk and walks towards the door to our room, opening it and putting his head outside.
"What is it?" I question him while crawling out of bed and going towards him.
"The hotel manager." Will replies, opening the door further so I may see as well. I stand next to him and lean over the doorframe. I see my father speaking to a man who seems to be frantically shouting about something. I step closer alongside Will so I am able to hear the conversation.
"The streets are lined with people who were believed to be dead and more are coming up by the minute. Now, you get out of my hotel so that I am able to protect my people." The manager declares with heavy breathes escaping his mouth.
"You can't just kick us out! And what do you mean... Dead? That isn't possible." My father replies, placing his hand on the doorframe.
"I mean dead! There was one infection, and now it... It turned into so much more." The manager states, a crazed look in his eyes.
"Infection? Dead people? How can any of this be possible?" My father shakes his head and lets out a deep breath.
"Wait... Is it like... Zombies?" Will asks, stepping closer to the conversation with a laugh.
"Yes, that's exactly what this is." The manager turns his attention to my brother and his head slightly turns and he looks around nervously.
"You all need to get out, I'll give you a few moments to pack, and then... Out." The manager states. He swiftly walks away before my father can argue anymore.
"Where will we go?" My father hisses under his breath angrily. I allow my eyes to widen for a moment before my hands scramble around my pockets. I find the small card I was looking for and read the words, "Lancaster Inc." on the front with a phone number below it. I go to the small, white hotel phone and begin putting in the numbers on the card.
"Alex, what are you doing?" My father calls, his footsteps coming up behind me.
"Calling help." I reply, still punching in the last few numbers.
"Who?" My father stands next to me now and grabs the card off the table. Luckily, I already finished putting in all the numbers and put the phone to my ear.
"Carter Lancaster, he does property sales here. I met him in the airport. He may be able to give us a place to stay." I answer, hearing the first ring of the phone begin. I sigh softly and mutter under my breath for him to answer me.
"Alright... Let me know what he says." My father places the card back down on the table and goes to my mother who continues to stare out the window. The phone rings again and then suddenly it stops.
"This is Carter." I hear from the other side of the phone.
"Hello, this is Alex. We met in the airport yesterday." I tell him, attempting to sound more mature.
"Oh, yeah, Alex. I remember you. What do you need?" Carter asks me in a cheerful tone.
"Well, my family is being kicked out of our hotel. The manager says there is some type of zombie problem outside and we need to leave." I pause for a moment and tap my fingers on the side of the landline.
"Since you said you do property sales... I was wondering if you could give us a place for the night." I finish while releasing a long, hopeful sigh.
"Oh, of course. Just give me your current address. I'll send a car to pick you all up and you all can stay with my brother and I." Carter tells me, still in that almost strangely cheerful voice.
"Oh, thank you so much, Mr. Lancaster." I reply, letting out a slight chuckle from my joy.
"Please, call me Carter. Now, how about you give me that address?"
