Heading There
A midnight black limo pulls up on the sidewalk and the driver gets out and looks at my father.
"Mr. Alex?" The driver questions politely.
"No, that's my son." My father replies, gently placing his hand on my shoulder.
"Of course. Mr. Lancaster wished me to welcome you to the Main District, where our best housing is located. Mr. Shane Lancaster will tell you more once you arrive." The driver states while he opens the door for us. My father leads my mother inside while my brother and I help the driver to put our bags in the back. Afterwards, we climb inside and our journey begins. I sit by the window as I have always preferred. I am a bit surprised that I don't see anyone walking outside, but more running with screams that I can hear through the door. I decide to turn away and stare down at my hands.
"You are quite the lucky guy, Alex." My twin chuckles, causing me to look up at him.
"How so?" I ask him in return, placing my hands together.
"You just happen to run into a guy who owns tons of property here. I just googled this Carter guy, he's loaded because his brother owns this company. But apparently he's gonna be getting a part of the company because his brother is splitting it into different sections he's calling districts. Just what are the odds of you meeting this guy?" Will chuckles while shaking his head slightly.
"Well... It would depend on how many people at his status there are in total so that we can divide it by how many are in-"
"It was a rhetorical question. You weren't supposed to answer it." Will interrupts me, putting his hand up to make sure I would stop.
"Oh, sorry." I murmur while looking back out the window.
Not long after my conversation with Will, we arrive through a large door that seems to be part of a wall that is in the process of being completed. The limo drives up next to a long staircase that leads to a mansion at the top of a hill. The driver quickly hops out of the car and opens the door for all of us.
"Welcome to the Lancaster household." The driver announces as my family all begins to file out of the car.
"Alex, my man!" Carter calls from the middle of the staircase. He begins to quickly down all the stairs with a large grin on his face.
"Carter, stop terrorizing the boy." Another man who slowly goes down the stairs calls. His blonde hair is groomed well and I can tell how bright his blue eyes are, even from this distance.
"My apologies for my brother, he has never been the best people person, that has always been my job." The man chuckles as they both reach the bottom of the stairs.
"Allow me to introduce myself, I am Shane Lancaster, and it seems you already know my brother, Carter." The blonde man smiles and extends his hand for me to shake. It takes me a moment to gather myself before I reach back and take his hand for a firm shake.
"I'm Alex Clark, this is my brother Will, my father Roger, and my mother Mary. Thank you for having us." I give him and smile and we release from each other's hands.
"Well, it is not me who will be having you. My brother said that all you needed was a home to stay in. You see, I have a daughter and my business partner, Joshua, living with me currently. Carter will lead you all to his home, it isn't far." Shane explains, glancing at his brother and then back at me.
"Oh, we aren't staying here?" My father steps in to question. Shane shakes his head and crosses his arms over his chest.
"No, all of my residences are full. Carter will take you to his section of our property, we call it District 4. Now, if you will please excuse me, I have much work to do." Shane gives us a smile before walking past us and straightening his tie.
"He may say he's a people person, but he the only reason he speaks to anyone is so his company continues to run." Carter scoffs and shakes his head, turning back towards me.
"Anyways, let's get back inside the car, we can't walk to District 4." Carter announces, giving me a slight nudge towards the car. All of my family pile back inside with Carter and I getting in last. The driver closes the door and quickly goes to his seat and starts out journey.
"How far is District 4 from here?" Will questions, leaning forward so he can look at Carter.
"About seven miles or so. Although, the closest district to this one is definitely District 6. My friend, Allan runs that one." Carter answers, his head turning slightly and his eyes going outside the window.
"How many districts are there?" I question curiously. Originally, I just thought there were two or three. Having six whole areas of land is a lot already, it's no wonder that Carter and Shane have so much money.
"Eighteen. But we're still trying to expand, but it's getting hard since all the land around here is either super expensive or we own it." Carter chuckles in response. I can't help my eyes from widening in shock.
"Eighteen? And all of them look like that one?" Will asks, almost taking the words right from my mouth.
"Well, there are slight differences, but they are all civilized if that's what you're asking." Carter states while giving a slow nod.
"Wow..." Mutters Will as he leans back into his seat. I nod in agreement. What these few people have done is very admirable. It shocks me that they have managed to build up entire communities in, what seems like, very little time. I can't help but smile softly to myself and look back down at my hands while we all await our arrival at Carter's district, District 4.
