World's End Dancehall

A/N: Orangecatcupcakes Okay this is kind of really bad because I was trying to write it so there wouldn't be too much more than 1000 words since it's supposed to be short but I started to write a whole book.1318 isn't that many more right?

Rin's POV:

The familiar, frantic humming of my sewing machine echoed throughout the one two room house that my brother and I shared.

"What are you making this time?" Len's voice came from the chair he called his all purpose furnishings.

"I shredded up my old dress last night, I'm making it into something new." I smiled. We didn't own a lot of clothes, but I was always somehow able to get my hands on new material that would soon be transformed into something not only practical, but fashionable too. Usually they were based off of designs that my idol (Miku Hatsune) published.

Len stood and stretched, giving off a moan.

"Heading to work?" I asked, switching off my machine and turning to face him.

He nodded, "I got my boss to let me pull an all-nighter."

I frowned. "You're going to kill yourself if you don't let yourself relax."

"We're almost two-thousand dollars behind on our rent and the landlord has already threatened to kick us out if we don't manage to cough up enough cash." Len reminded me. "I'll relax when we've paid our debts."

"Well then I'll pull an all-nighter too." I decided and rose to find my uniform.

Len shook his head. "Sorry, but you do need to make sure you get enough sleep."

"We need real jobs." I moaned and flopped onto the small couch. "Fast food is not going to get us anywhere."

Len grinned and shuffled out the door. "Make sure you eat!"

"Oh whatever." I grumbled. I was sick of eating take out, and it's not like it helped with our costs.

Unfortunately, Len would get really mad if he came home and I hadn't eaten anything; so at six o'clock I left the house and made my way to the closest fast food place. Wendys...you can get a kids meal for 3.29$ at the most. It's enough to sustain, but not enough to satisfy unfortunately.

I was cramming the burger into my mouth and waiting for the light to turn so I could cross the street, when a car radio blasted a familiar name.

"...I personally just can't wait for the competition being hosted tomorrow by Miku Hatsune herself."

"Oh, she's hosting it herself?"

"Yes Gumi, she is. I think it's some sort of dance competition."

"Hold on let me look it up...lesseee...Yup! Contestants are supposed to design an outfit, (the theme is World's End) and wear it to the dance off. The prize is a whopping fifty-thousand dollars."

"Wow...I wouldn't give away that much money...ever."

"You could if you were as rich as Miku. She wouldn't even notice a difference if she gave out a million."

The light turned green and I was forced to hurry across the crosswalk.
A fashion contest! Hosted by MIKU! With a prize of fifty-THOUSAND dollars!

My fries were forgotten at the moment. I made a mad dash to a fabric store and scurried back to the house. Sure I spent a lot of money on the fabrics, but it would all be worth it when I won!

For hours I sat at my workbench. Sketching, measuring, planning, and crumbling up pieces of paper to throw into the trash bin.

I was so absorbed with my work that I didn't even notice when Len came creeping into the room.

"You're awake?" He asked with a touch of concern.

"Contest tomorrow," I muttered. "It's got to be ready."

"Contest? What contest?"

"A dancing, fashion contest." I breathed excitedly. "Len, the prize is fifty-thousand dollars!"

Len blanched. "That's a lot of money. You really think you'll win?"

"Do you think I won't?" I set aside my supplies and stared at him.

He shifted a little and looked down at my sketch. "There will probably be a lot of contestants. You'll need to go all out, but...I think you'd at least get second."

I squealed and hugged him. "You'll come and watch, won't you?"

"Of course." He grinned. "I have to watch my sister kick some model butt."

"I'm nervous." I stated.

Understatement of the century; I was TERRIFIED! Already half of the contestants (there were thirty in all) had gone and been sent home. It was awful and I felt like I might cause an earthquake because I was shaking so badly.

Unfortunately, I was last, so I had to wait with the butterflies in my stomach until everyone had gone.

Finally my turn came. I knew because they amplified my name to such a ridiculous volume that I might have jumped up to the sun if Len hadn't been squeezing my hand.

I stumbled my way onstage and looked out at the three judges, as well as the camera that was live feeding the footage all over the country.

I want to die.

"AND HERE WE HAVE RIN KAGAMINE IN HER DESIGN, HEAT HAZE." The announcer thundered.

The judges asked me to do a million basic things like turn around, spin, walk, run, strut, and dance with the others (eep). They kept quiet while we did so and wrote things on their clipboards with grim expressions.

Then the remaining contestants and I were lined up and none other than MIKU HASTUNE walked onto the stage. She looked amazing, even if she looked ready to hurt someone thanks to her outfit.

With a graceful movement, she stretched her hand out and pointed to me. "This one."

Oh my gosh!

"You have five minutes to change." She announced and spun around to head back to her dressing room.

"LEN!" I screamed and ran off the stage to where my stuff was. He handed me my bag and I raced into the bathroom, where I changed into my second outfit. I called it Sakura Moon. It was more elegant than Heat haze, and perfectly suited for a dance battle.

I was ushered back onto the stage, but behind a curtain. Music began to play and Miku swept into the spotlight. She was wearing her Emerald design. It was gorgeous and I knew it was better than mine.

I peeked out and saw Len in the audience. Everyone else was wearing nice things, but he was in his usual worn out sweatshirt. He gave me a thumbs-up and my butterflies disappeared.

I can do this.

Miku started flashing poses, while I flounced out from behind the curtain. I walked with a purpose right up to her and flashed my own pose.

The music got quicker and the dancing began. At first I was concentrated on topping Miku's movements, but then I gradually began adding my own unique flair. Rin-style, oh yeah! Now I was having fun. I spun, and skipped; twirled, and stretched.

The whole thing went whirling by. The music stopped and I did too, with my hand outstretched upwards and my knee bent out to the side a little.

Somehow I ended with the same pose as Miku.

The audience roared to life and I saw Len beaming down at me.

'I did it!' I mouthed to him.

'You did great!' He mouthed back.

All of a sudden my picture was being taken and Miku was hugging me. "Nice job! You looked amazing."

"W...wow...thank...thank you SO much!" I stammered. "It was so much fun!"

"Hey!" Len yelled, snapping me out of my trance. "I said, Good job Rin!"

"Thanks." I mumbled dazedly.

"So..."

"So?"

"Are you going to say anything?"

"About what?" I asked.

Len smirked. "About the giant trophy you're carrying and the fiftyK that is now being transported to your bank account."

"No."

"Why not?"

"Because I still don't believe that just happened." I gasped.

"Well it did, and you know what?"

"What?"

"I think we can afford to get you an ice cream cone." He nudged me.

"Oh. My. Gosh." I smiled. "Okay, but let me go and get myself some normal clothes."

"Only if I can get a new hoodie."

"Race ya?"

"I'm not dancing, so racing is good." He broke into a run with me chasing close behind.

"I WANT A TRIPLE SCOOP!" I screamed after him.
