Adolescence...
A/N: TheLiL_Novelist Sorrrrryyyyy!!! You requested a Rinkuo adolescence SO long ago and I just never got around to it -_-
Anyway, it really sucks. I wrote it at 4am so don't judge me, I was tired. I hope you like it, I don't think it's going to be what you would expect from the song.
Rin's POV:
July 16th
Hello journal! My name is Rin Kagamine and I have Nyctophobia, which is an intense fear of the night, or dark in general.
It wasn't so bad when I was in the same room as my twin brother Len, but then one day...
"But...but mama..."
"No Rin, I already told you that you can't sleep in the same room as Len. You're a big girl now. We'll get you all cozy in your new room with all new, very special things."
That's what Mama had said anyway, back when I was seven. She even bought a pretty night light to plug in the outlet.
I distinctly remember the first night, how scared I was. The night light only made the shadows bigger, and the fact that it twinkled caused those shadows to move and come alive as dark phantoms.
I had tried to hug my pink bunny and pretend that it was Len, but it wasn't working. I was so scared.
It was even scarier when my room started making noises. I was on the brink of crying when something snatched away my pink bunny.
My eyes peeked open to see Len snuggling into my pillow.
"L...Len? Were you scared too?"
"Course not, you ninny." He flicked my forehead and grinned. "But I knew you would be. Don't worry, I'll stay all night and momma and papa won't ever know."
"Thanks Len." My heart stopped beating frantically and I was able to get a good night's sleep.
After that night, Len would always come into my room at night to help me sleep. On nights where I had nightmares, I would sneak to his first.
Even now that I'm fifteen, everyone still calls me a scaredy cat. I scream a lot, and get scared, and sometimes I've even fainted at school.
I can sort of sleep by myself now; but on nights where I have nightmares, I still have to sneak down to Len's room so he can make me feel better. Len has a bunk bed for when he has friends sleepover, but there's always so much stuff on it, so I just curl up next to him, which he doesn't mind.
I'm so lucky to have such a nice brother.
And of course, momma and papa don't know that I still get so scared I have to sleep in his room. They'd get mad at me for being such a baby.
Today I was at my friend Miku's house. Her older brother, Mikuo, is really good friends with Len. Sometimes Len has sleepovers, but I always get to come since Miku is my friend. That's nice because then I'm not alone at night.
Miku and I had a lot of fun together, but it got late really fast so I had to go home.
It was a good day!
-Rin
Rin finished scrawling In her diary and shut her eyes quickly to try and ensure a swift journey to dreamland. She tried to imagine she was lying in a boat that was drifting towards sweet dreams.
However, her boat took a wrong turn and ended up capsizing in the nightmare sea.
As soon as her eyes opened, Rin swung her feet over the side and tip-toed down the hall. She was so used to going to her brother's room after a nightmare that she was still half asleep.
There was no thought necessary for this habit. It only makes sense that as soon as she crawled in besides her brother that she fell right back to sleep.
It makes sense that her actions would have awakened Len.
At least, they would have awoken Len... if he had been the one sleeping on the bottom bunk.
It was Mikuo who groggily forced his eyes to open, only to see a small blonde haired girl sleeping quietly next to him.
"Len!" He hissed and kicked the top bunk. "Len!"
"What?" Len asked impatiently, sitting up and rubbing his head.
"I need your help." Mikuo whispered.
Len sighed and started down the ladder. "What's up?"
He froze when he saw exactly what was up.
"Move." Len ordered.
"I can't." Mikuo explained and pointed to his arm, which the strange girl was sleeping on.
"Then don't." Len climbed back up to his bunk and tried to get back to sleep. He trusted Mikuo, and frankly, was a little too tired to deal with all that right now.

The next morning, Rin was downstairs at her usual early time and out the door for school.
At the usual time after school, she ran through the front door and up to her room, where she would write down everything in her journal.
Only, she couldn't find her journal.
It wasn't in her pillowcase, or her nightstand drawer.
After looking through all the obvious places, Rin started to panic. She began to look in obscure and unlikely places, finally ending with her backpack.
There, right at the front was her little diary.
Breathing a sigh of relief, she opened it to the last page she wrote in.
But...that handwriting wasn't hers...
Hello to the girl who slept next to me last night.
I've returned your diary. You must have dropped it mom kicked it into my bag last night. Don't worry, I didn't read anything.
I'm writing this note to you because, well...I like you.
And I wanted to apologize, because I kissed your forehead last night and that was completely unacceptable of me.
Your brother told me how you get really scared when your alone at night, so don't worry about it. Next time I'll make sure I take the top bunk.
He also said you sleep with this journal under your pillow. That's the other reason I wrote this note. Just remember that it's in here when you get freaked out.
~Mikuo
Rin stared at the pages for a while, unsure of what to think or feel, other than embarrassment and confusion.
Regardless, she did sleep with the diary under her pillow; and when she woke up with a nightmare she remembered the note in its pages.
It worked so well that tried it the next time she had a nightmare. And the next time, and the next.
Until she and Mikuo were together at night, married, and with children scared of the dark of their own.
