- Yoon Maya's POV

My alarm clock started to go off once again. I opened my eyes and was soon met with the sunlight from outside my side window. I smiled at the brand new day but groaned when I realized that I may need to wake up Keni again.

"Alright, M! Let's do this!" I thought to myself as I got out of my bed. "It's time to wake up Sleeping Beauty !"

But then I froze when I noticed that my best friend wasn't in her bed sleeping. "Huh? Didn't Keni come back last night?" I muttered under my breath as I looked under Keni's bed. But I didn't see her there. Then the door to the bathroom opened and Keni came out already wearing her school uniform.

"Good morning, Maya~!" She greeted me with a dreamy look on her face.

I squinted my eyes at her in suspicion and said, "You woke up before I did. What's with the new change?"

Keni then giggled which made my eyes widen in shock. "Oh, nothing new. Just felt like today would be a good day," she replied back while smiling to herself.

Then I understood right away. She and Soobin must have done something last night for her to be in such a good mood. I shook my head at her and walked over to the bathroom. But before I walked inside, I spoke up, "What did you do last night? And did Soobin save you some leftovers from yesterday's dinner?"

"Hm, oh, he did~!" Keni answered while humming to a tune that I do not know. Then she went back to brushing her hair. "And?" I asked. "Anything else? Keni?"

My best friend stopped with what she was doing and gave me a 'what-do-you-want' look. Then I sighed and shook my head while saying, "Nevermind. Just go on and continue to make yourself look pretty."

And Keni did what I told her to do.

"Wow... This girl, I swear..." I whispered while shaking my head again. "Aish! I was being sarcastic."

Keni and I left the girls' dormitory and met up with Bora and Kiera by the top of the staircase. They greeted us and Bora started to ask Keni if she was okay. I was a little surprised that the New Blood started a conversation first, but I was relieved to see that she was finally opening up to one of us. Then by the entrance of the Dining Hall, we had bumped into Jisung, Sangmin, Dakyung, and Vivien, who was standing a little too close to Jisung. Bora had noticed it, too, and we both looked at each other with confusion in our expressions. Then we all walked inside and many heads turned when Keni appeared.

"They are looking at Keni unnie," Kiera whispered. "Why is that?"

"Because Keni survived a near-death experience," Sangmin answered in a hushed voice.

Then Kiera sighed and shook her head at the student body. I looked over at Dakyung, who gave me a nod, and then we both started to walk to our table while I pulled Keni with me. We all sat down in our usual chairs and then eight glasses of orange marmalade juice appeared on the table. I took a sip right away since I was thirsty. Then Sangmin, Jisung, and Dakyug started to ask Keni if she was feeling better today.

"Don't worry, boys, I feel like I can shoot hoops if you make me!" Keni joked earning some playful eye-rolls from the three, guy best friends.

"No way, are we going to make you play basketball with us,. The last time I played with you, you cheated!" Jisung spoke up, earning laughter around our table.

Keni raised her eyebrow at him and slapped his shoulder. "Me? Cheat?" she asked, pretending to be in shock. "You're the one who cheated! You freaking mind manipulator!"

Jisung then laughed out loud and placed his arm around his Guardian's shoulders. "Hey, at least, you can tell if I'm playing tricks on your mind."

Then the two friends continued bickering with each other as the Kitchen staff came over and gave us our breakfast.

- Oh Jisung's POV

"By the way, Vivien!" Kiera called out when we all finished eating.

The 19-year-old Vampire faced her and smiled. "Yes, Kiera?"

"We are having a sleepover tonight, would you like to join us?" Kiera asked, making Bora look at her younger friend with a 'why-are-you-inviting-her' look.

I was wondering why Bora was giving Keira that look, but I didn't bother in asking her since I noticed Keni acting weird. She kept glancing over her shoulders after every 3 minutes and it was getting on nerves. Then Keni did it again and I finally snapped.

"Yah! What are you looking at?" I whispered while looking at where Keni's eyes were on.

Then I clenched my fists when seeing Park Soobin looking at our table. I looked back at my Guardian and glared at her. "Really? These two?" I thought to myself as I felt my insides boil.

Then Keni smiled and looked back at our friends around the table.

"What in Vladimir are you two up to?" I quietly asked myself as I looked back at Soobin, who is now talking to Haruto and Hyosung.

Then the bell rang and breakfast ended. Everyone stood up and we all started to leave the Dining Hall, but I noticed that Keni wasn't with Maya. I instantly saw her walking over to Soobin's table and something in me made me run over to her.

"Hey, Kei," I called out while pulling her to me.

She looked at me in surprise and was going to say something, but I cut her off.

"You might be late for your first class. So why don't you head over to your classroom."

"Huh? Oh... Um, okay." Keni looked disappointed, but it was changed into a small smile before walking back to where Maya and Dakyung were at.

Then I looked over at Soobin who was already eyeing me. He walked over to me when the group at his table left.

"We need to talk," I told him while walking out of the Dining Hall.

"What is it that you want to talk about?" Soobin asked once I found an empty corridor where he and I could talk in without anyone disrupting us.

Then I faced him and asked, "What business do you have with my Guardian?"

The Vampire stared at me for a few seconds before saying, "Nothing. I've got no business with Keni." Then he started to walk away, but I wasn't satisfied with his answer.

I got into his head and pictured him inside a glassed cage. Soobin banged his hand on the glass caged and I smirked when my mind manipulation on him worked.

"Tell me, Soobin, do you like her?" I asked with so much venom. But Soobin just stared at me and said nothing.

I sighed in irritation and asked again, "Do you like her? Do you like Keni?"

- 3rd POV

Soobin looked down at his shoes, his hands still on the glass caged. He looked lost and broken as he fought with his inner demons. He wanted to tell Jisung that he and Keni are Soulmates, but he knew that it would anger Jisung more and that he might tell Headmistress Lee. Soobin promised himself last night that he would end things with Keni today, but he didn't want to. For once in his life, he felt like a miracle had happened. The way he felt with her around. With or without the Soulmate connection, Soobin has never felt like he was wanted and needed in his life by someone else aside from his family, the late Guardian, and best friend.

But he couldn't get what Headmistress Lee had told him out of his head.

He sighed and looked back at Jisung. Then he spoke up, "There is nothing happening between me and Keni. Why would I like a Guardian? She's an orphan, too! What if her real parents are criminals?"

"Lies. All of it was lies. But if it's to keep Keni from facing a tragic future, then I'll continue to lie for her sake," he thought over and over again.

"Then why do you bother hanging out with her?" Jisung pushed on.

"Because... because she's easy to play with," Soobin answered with a clenched fist.

Then Jisung smirked and the mind manipulation had stopped. His eyes showed an evil look when he glanced at something behind Soobin. The younger Vampire turned around to see what Jisung was looking at and Soobin broke into pieces when seeing Keni with tears in her eyes.

- Park Soobin's POV

Pain. Shocked. Disbelief.

Everything that I hated to see in Keni's many expressions.

"K-Keni..." I called out, my voice cracked at the start as I walked over to her. "I can explain!"

But Maya and Bora stood in front of her, blocking my view of my Soulmate.

"Don't you dare go near her," Bora growled protectively.

Then I shook my head and went against Bora's words. I took a few more steps towards them, but Maya stood in front of me and slapped my left cheek.

"I trust you, Soobin! We all did and Keni did, too!" She yelled with so much hatred in her eyes. "How could you just play with her this whole time?"

"Isn't it obvious?" Jisung spoke up while walking over to his friends. "He did it because he must have been bored with his life."

Then I felt it. The connection.

I looked through a small gap between Maya and Bora and saw Keni crying all by herself. She was in another vulnerable state and the connection was telling me that. I gritted my teeth as I tried to hold myself back from punching Jisung right then and there. But as I continued to see the neverending flowing tears staining my girl's cheeks, I knew that I had to leave.

"I am sorry, Keni... But I had to do it. For your sake," I thought to myself as I started to walk away.

With every step that I took away from her, the connection kept getting stronger and stronger that it made me feel dizzy. But I continued to walk and didn't dare to look back.

- 3rd POV

It's already night time and nine girls were all preparing for their Girls' Night inside a classroom that the Headmistress allowed for them to use.

"Remember lights out at 1," Headmistress Lee spoke up after talking to Keni and Sungkyung.

Then the girls all smiled and nodded their heads while thanking the Academy's principal. "Alright, then, I'll get out of your hair. Goodnight, girls, and have fun!" the Headmistress added in before walking out of the classroom. Then she saw two other girls in their pajamas and chuckled softly. "Ms. Park, Ms. Kang, and your friends are waiting for both of you," she told them and earned a bow from the two Vampires.

"Ah, thank you, Headmistress Lee!" Leela said before she and Vivien walked inside the classroom.

"Finally! You're here!" Hanuel called out to her older friend while munching on a granola bar that she hid from Noah. Then she looked over at the new girl and smiled in surprise. "Oh? Did Keni and Maya invite you?"

Vivien shyly smiled and shook her head. "Kiera invited me," she answered and earned a nod from the Air Element Keeper.

"Um, by the way, having a sleepover in a classroom, is it really allowed?" Vivien asked while looking at the fort of blankets that were in the middle of the classroom.

"No, not exactly," Hanuel said, while Leela excused herself to help Minjung and Sungkyung with the snacks. "Just for tonight since the Headmistress wanted Keni to take a break from her Guardian training."

"Oh, so the Guardians were supposed to have their training tonight?"

Hanuel nodded her head. "Yup, but because of what had happened to Keni yesterday. The academy's staff and headmistress are still worried about her mental and emotional health."

"That is why it's nice to have such relations with Headmistress Lee. Keni's got so many people on her side. Lucky for her, and luck to the Guardians in her batch. They all got to skip their training tonight." Noah said as she grabbed the granola bar from Hanuel, who glared at the girl.

Then Vivien raised her left eyebrow in surprise. "Keni and Headmistress Lee are related?"

"Gosh, no!" Hanuel replied back while Noah giggled. "They just share the same surname, but they are not related."

Noah then added in, "What I mean by relations is that Keni's adopted parents had asked Headmistress Lee if they could use her family's name for Keni, days after they took her in. That's all there is between the two."

But Vivien didn't buy it. She knew that there was more to Keni's name and she's going to figure it out before her boss finds out that she is in the Academy with a fake identity. She only has a few more weeks before her boss checks up on her at his manor. Vivien has to finish her job before returning back. She has to know who Keni really is.

"OY! WHO BROUGHT THE LIQUOR IN HERE?!" Minjung asked in shock after seeing a bottle of liquor under one of the girls' bedsheets.

Everyone but Hanuel looked at the second eldest in the classroom where a huge forte made out of everyone's blankets. Then Maya saw Hanuel biting her lip nervously and started to laugh out loud. The girls all looked at her weirdly and Minjung thought that it was Maya who brought the alcoholic drink. The older girl then started to chase Maya around the classroom while Maya kept saying that it wasn't her.

Keni, who was all by herself near the windows of the room, felt the connection between her and Soobin again. It wasn't as strong as it was earlier but it was still making her feel dizzy. She quietly took deep breaths in and out of her nose and mouth. Then Bora walked over to her and sat down on the edge of another window. "Are you okay, Keni?" She asked as she worriedly looked at the Guardian.

"Oh, um, hey, Bora," Keni greeted with an awkward smile, making Bora smile back at her. "Yeah, I'm okay. Just... tired."

"Is it because of what had happened earlier in the corridor?" Bora asked while remembering the event after their breakfast in the Dining Hall.

She didn't know much about Soobin and Keni's friendship, but she felt like something had gone wrong with Soobin and Jisung's conversation. Whatever it was, Bora hoped that Keni would get some closure from what Soobin said.

"Yeah, it is, but..." Keni trailed off as memories of her and Soobin flashed through her mind.

From the funeral to the nights at the library to their times at the Greenhouse to their own moments when the two finally shared their feelings towards each other.

Keni doesn't want to believe that Soobin was just playing around with her. It doesn't make any sense. Especially with the connection between them and the fact that they're Soulmates.

"Yo! Keni! Bora!" Noah called out. "Get your asses over here!"

Leela had to cover Chaewon's ears when the other female Vampire cursed all of a sudden.

"YAH! WE HAVE MINORS HERE!" Leela shouted while glaring at Noah, who just stuck her tongue out at her.

Leela sighed and whispered, "Ugh! I give up!" Chaewon giggled at what her Vampire said and poked Leela's cheek. "Unnie, it's alright! It's not like it's the first time I've heard someone curse."

The 19-year-old Vampire stared at her young Guardian and shook her head. "I'm not even gonna ask where you first heard someone cursing," she exclaimed while walking over to the table where the snacks and drinks are.

"Okay! Everyone, please gather around in a circle!" Noah called out.

"What are we going to do?" Hanuel asked her while Chaewon sat beside her on her right and Vivien on her left.

(Order of seating arrangement: Sungkyung, Minjung, Keni, Maya, Bora, Kiera, Noah, Vivien, Hanuel, and Chaewon || Yebin wasn't invited since she's staying at her parents' due to personal reasons. To be explained in PART 2.)

"We are going to play the Ouija board, of course!" Noah responded with sarcasm laced with her tone. "Jeez! Y'all are so slow!"

Everyone rolled their eyes at her, except for Chaewon, Kiera, and Vivien, who were lost since they didn't understand what Noah had meant.

"Seriously, Noah, what are we playing?" Maya asked, getting a little impatient.

Then Noah grinned. "Truth or-"

"NU-UH! I AIN'T PLAYING THAT SHIT AGAIN!" Hanuel exclaimed out loud, making those sitting beside her jump in surprised.

"Then what do you suggest we all should play?" Noah asked with her right eyebrow raised at her friend.

"Um, can I suggest?" Vivien asked with a shy smile.

"Sooo, one of us will say a word and the rest will come up with their own words that they can relate to the first word?" Hanuel summarized after hearing the mechanics of Vivien's game.

Then the new girl nodded her head with a big smile. "That's right!" she replied back.

"Alrighty then!" Noah spoke up. "Who wants to go first?"

"I'll do it," Minjung said with her left hand raised in the air.

Then she added, "Um, scent." And so the game began.

The answers were all in order since the game wasn't a competition. Sungkyung answered first since she was sitting on Minjung's right side.

"Perfume," The oldest said with a small smile on her face. "Reminds me of my mom."

Then Keni went next since Minjung was skipped.

"Flowers. From the Greenhouse," she said while looking at her hands.

"Why the Greenhouse, unnie?" Chaewon asked.

Keni smiled sadly. "Because that's where I first met her."

The older girls and Maya knew who Keni was talking about. So they didn't bother to ask who it was. Then the game continued on with Maya who said, "Air freshener. When I was a kid, my dad once made me smell this one air freshener and since then I could never forget its scent."

"It must have smelt nice for you to remember," Leela spoke up.

Maya gave her a terrified look. "God, no! It smelt like horse's shit!"

Then the girls all laughed and Bora continued on.

"Coffee beans. It reminds me of the mornings when my parents were getting ready for work and all they would have for breakfast was grounded coffee."

Sungkyung and Keni knew that Bora's a New Blood but they had no idea that Bora had still remembered her memories from when she was a Human.

Not all New Bloods have the privilege of remembering their Human life so for Bora it's quite a blessing from Mother Lilith... or maybe a curse.

"Okay, for me, um... Dog poop," Kiera answered, making everyone eye her weirdly. "I stepped on dog poop on my first day back in school this year."

Bora instantly knew what Kiera was talking about. After all that was the memory that got the two to start becoming friends. If it wasn't for the dog's poop, then Bora wouldn't have had a friend in her new life as a Vampire.

"Gotta be thankful for that dog poop," Kiera added in, remembering the memory.

Bora shook her head at the younger girl with a grin while the rest of the girls made the "ew" sound. It was Noah's turn next and her answer made everyone go soft.

"Mother's cooking," she answered while faking a sob. Then she stopped and laughed before explaining. "Home cooked meals are the best thing to have when you return back home after school."

Then Hanuel said, "Especially, after the week of the Final Exams.

"Damn, right girl!" Noah exclaimed and the two did a high-five.

Then next was Vivien who got everyone surprised and curious.

"Mine would have to be medicines," she spoke up.

"Medicines?" Both Leela and Minjung asked.

Vivien then nodded her head while tying her hair up in a ponytail. "I was admitted to the hospital after my house was burned down with my parents in it," she answered with a scowl on her face, then she smiled and looked at each one of the girls. "But let's not dwell in the past. Hanuel, you're next."

"Oh! Uh, yeah!" Hanuel was still surprised with her new friend's answer. But she didn't bother to ask about it. "Um... Ah! For me, it's Doyoung's breath!"

"What the f, Han?" Maya asked while laughing with Minjung and Keni.

"What? Don't tell me he hasn't shared his bad breath with you three?"

"Actually, he did but that was a long time ago!" Minjung replied back as she remembered Doyoung's failed attempt of singing and ended up sharing his onion scented breath with everyone in class. "Plus, didn't we all promised not to talk about his embarrassing moment"

"We did, unnie!" Hanuel exclaimed. "But he isn't here sooo-"

"I'm next, right?" Chaewon asked, cutting Hanuel off.

"I- did you just cut me off, Chae?" Hanuel faked gasp.

Chaewon smiled at her and then added in, "A scent for me that was quite memorable would be... Ah! The smell of Spring in my first year in the Academy."

Leela warmly smiled at her young Guardian-In-Training. Then she was next.

"The smell of a new morning. Gives me hope and positivity for what lies ahead."

"Well said, Leela!" Sungkyung called out and then the whole group clapped their hands at the second eldest Vampire.

The game continued on until it was time to go to bed. The girls cleaned up their mess before they all got inside their makeshift beds inside the fort of blankets. Then just when they all could say their 'good nights' a flash of lightning appeared outside and a roll of thunder followed after it. A couple of the girls screamed in surprise while others jumped on their spots.

Then Keni felt cold.

Keni... Can you hear me?

"Who's there?" Keni asked as quietly as she could while standing up and walking out of the fort.

Keni...

"I said, who are you-"

Thunder rolled out in the sky which had cut Keni off.

Then Keni felt someone behind her. She turned around and saw Vivien looking at her.

"Are you okay, Keni?" she called out while walking over to the 18-year-old Guardian.

Keni, she is here...

"Keni? What's wrong?" Bora asked after walking out of the fort when she noticed that Keni had left.

Then lightning struck outside and Keni's eyes went wide when she saw Vivien's face. It was half burnt. Time slowed down right after that when Keni remembered what Vivien had said earlier about the medicines and being admitted into the hospital. She also remembered that time at the Dining Hall when Vivien first ate with Keni and her group.

"My parents died in a fire accident," Vivien answered.

Keni's breathing started to change when she remembered the story about Soobin attending Kim Rosie's birthday party and that the house was burnt down, killing Rosie's parents and injuring half of her younger twin's face and body with burnt marks.

Keni, she's here. Be careful.

"That voice," Keni thought after realizing the owner. "Yeji unnie... Are you here?"

Then another strike of lightning showed up in the sky and Keni had then turned her head to face the window behind her. She then saw her reflection along with Vivien and Bora's. Keni couldn't believe it.

Yeji's spirit was standing beside Vivien, who no longer looked like the new girl, but an exact replica of Kim Rosie with a half burnt face.

Then time went back to normal and when Keni turned around to face Vivien and Bora, Vivien's face was changing between the fake and the real face.

"Who are you?" Keni finally asked when she no longer can hear Yeji in the classroom. "Who are you really, Vivien Kang?"
