- 3RD POV
"Soobin?" Keni called out in a soft voice.
The once pale face of the young Guardian had gone back to its normal skin color. Soobin sighed in relief when he saw the color of her cheeks and soft lips returning. Then he engulfed her into a hug. He hadn't noticed that he was trembling in fear and many other emotions that he thought he wouldn't feel again. It took a while for Keni to register what was happening. Her eyes widened in surprise when she noticed that the water from the sprinkler and the people in the classroom were frozen.
Then Soobin spoke up, "I thought I lost you." His voice cracked in the middle of that sentence which made Keni winced at how evident the pain was in his voice.
"Why are you here, Soobin?" She asked as she wrapped her arms around him. "How did you know that something bad was happening? Was it the connection again?"
"Yes, it was the connection," He answered, his breath hitting her neck as he placed his head on the crook of her neck. "I felt your fear, Keni. I felt it."
Then Keni pulled away from the hug and looked at him closely. "You felt my fear?" She asked in shock.
Soobin nodded his head and said, "It made my insides flip. Feeling that you were in danger got me all worried and I lost it... I ended up using my gift."
The young Guardian then looked around the frozen classroom and noticed that one of Professor Nam's shoulders was burnt. She also saw that the machine behind the metal chair was burnt down as well. Then she looked back at Soobin and placed her hand on his cheek. "You had to do it, Binnie. So don't think that you using your gift is a bad thing, okay?" Soobin leaned into her hand and shut his eyes. Then he whispered, "As long as you're okay. Then I'm okay. By the way, time stopped."
"Should we even be worried about that?" Keni jokes, earning a chuckle from the male vampire.
Then Soobin said, "Keni, I think we're Soul Mates." He opened his eyes and looked into her brown orbs.
"You have beautiful eyes," He added softly.
Keni then blushed at his compliment while whispering, "Thanks, Soobin... And how do know that we are Soul-"
The two suddenly felt the water from the sprinkles falling down on them, making Keni not able to finish her question for Soobin. Less than five seconds later, everyone in the classroom all looked at her in shock when they all saw Keni breathing.
"Ms. Lee, are you alright?" Professor Ko called out as he walked over to the metal chair through the now flooded classroom.
"WHAT! NO! YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE DEAD!" Professor Nam shouted while Bomin, Jaehyuck, and Professor Min held her away from Keni.
Soobin, who was holding Keni in his arms, turned around to face the Guest Professor. His golden-red eyes started to glow a fiery red, making everyone in the room go quiet. Then he growled protectively, "If you ever try to hurt her, then your shoulder won't be the only part of your body that I will burn."
Everyone expected Professor Nam to cower away or to apologize, but they all watched as the middle-aged Vampire started to laugh like a psychopath. Then Professor Nam replied back to Soobin with a menacing smirk, "You will burn me, you say? What? Just like how your little Guardian's body was burned?"
Soobin staggered backward, his eyes returning back to their normal color as he looked at her in horror. Then out of nowhere, Jaehyuck's hand reached out to Professor Nam's neck. He started to choke her with all of the anger he held in after Yeji's death. No one was going to talk to Soobin like that. Not even a teacher.
"WHO SENT YOU?!" Jaehyuck shouted the veins on his neck appearing. "ANSWER ME!"
Bomin and Professor Min tried to pull Jaehyuck's hand away from Professor Nam's neck, but the 20-year-old Guardian was too strong.
"Jaehyuck! Stop!" Headmistress Lee ordered with a powerful tone.
The whole classroom started to shake at how powerful Lee Jieun's voice was that Jaehyuck had to let go of Professor Nam's neck. Then the Guest Professor fell on her knees as she tried to catch her breath. Dakyung leaves Maya, who went to check on her best friend and went over to help Bomin and Professor Min. Doyoung and Joseong decided to bring Jaehyuck outside to help him calm down, but the older Guardian had already left the room. Chaewon and Minjung soon followed Maya and the three girls each had their share of hugs from Keni. The other Vampires who came to help soon left and then Headmistress Lee started to talk to Professor Nam.
"What is the real reason for your visit, Nam Joohye?" Headmistress Lee asked while Bomin and Dakyung held her up on her feet.
Professor Min excused himself as he went to check on Keni. He got Professor Ko to help the headmistress and the other two male Guardians. Then he stood at the foot of the metal chair and asked, "Keni, if you don't mind me asking... What did you see during the Fear Stimulator? What was your fear?"
Keni bit her bottom lip as she suddenly remembered seeing how Yeji was killed. Soobin saw how uncomfortable she looked and turned his head to face the professor. "Sir, maybe now isn't the right time to ask that," he said while placing his arm around Keni's shoulder.
"No, it's okay, Soobin," Keni exclaimed, earning an "are-you-sure" look from her friend. She gently nodded at Soobin and then she looked back at Professor Min while saying, "I saw Yeji inside the Dark Forest and how she was murdered."
Headmistress Lee heard what Keni said and she looked over at the young Guardian in surprise. Then Professor Nam caught her attention.
"You heard her," the middle-aged vampire said. "That Guardian saw how the Rare-Blood died!"
"Shut up!" Jieun hissed while using her power to keep Joohye from talking again. "I heard it loud and clear, Joohye. But what Keni saw is just the illusions from your Fear Simulator. So what she saw isn't real."
"Believe what you wanna believe, cousin," Nam Joohye exclaimed with an evil chuckle. "But if I were you, I would re-investigate Song Yeji's death."
তততততততততততততততততততততততত
"Keni, you should rest," Headmistress Lee spoke up after pulling the blankets over the young Guardian.
After the Police took care of Professor Nam, Headmistress Lee told everyone from the Psychology Science class to take two days off from their school work to rest and was able to get Keni to stay in the Infirmary. Maya, Minjung, and Chaewon wanted to accompany their friend, but the headmistress insisted for them to head back to their dorm. Soobin was also told to give Keni some space until she falls asleep in the Infirmary. So he decided to wait in the school's Dining Hall with Dakyung, Maya, Chaewon, and Minjung. Doyoung and Joseong were nowhere to be seen and everyone just thought that they might still be with Jaehyuck. Bomin had excused himself from everyone since he needed to tell Sungkyung and Jisung about what had happened to Keni. Professor Min and Professor Ko were given direct orders by the headmistress to explain to the other teachers about the incident at the Psych Sci class, and to reassure the teachers that everything is taken care of.
Now, all that Lee Jieun has to worry about is putting Keni to sleep without the poor girl having to dream about what she saw during her experience with the Fear Simulator.
"Headmistress Lee, are you related to Professor Nam by any chance?" Keni asked as she laid her head down on the soft pillow.
Jieun stared at her and sighed. "Yes, I am related to her. Why do you ask?"
Keni shook her head. "Just curious." Then Headmistress Lee sighed again and added in, "She's actually my cousin. From my mother's side."
The 18-year-old nodded her head and then she asked curiously, "Did she tell you why she came to the academy?"
Jieun furrowed her eyebrows at the female Guardian. "Keni... You should rest instead of asking these questions," she told her.
But Keni needed an answer.
"Sorry, but I won't sleep properly without your answer to my question, Headmistress Lee."
"I honestly do not know why she came to the academy, Keni. So I can't answer your question." Keni looked disappointed and it made Jieun sigh again. Then the older female continued on, "Look, once the Police find Professor Nam's motives then I'll tell you, okay?"
Keni pouted and then she nodded her head, totally irritated since she wouldn't be able to know why the damn Guest Professor tried to kill her.
Then Jieun smiled at that and patted her head. "Go to sleep, Keni."
But Keni crossed her eyebrows and said, sounding scared, "I don't want to... What if I see it again?"
"You won't. Because I'll be here," Jieun reassured her.
Keni smiled at her older female's words but frowned after remembering what Soobin had told her before time continued on inside the classroom.
"Headmistress Lee... are Soulmates real?" She asked without double thinking about her question.
"Soulmates?" Jieun asked, totally surprised and... nervous about the question.
"Yeah, Soulmates. You know, um, two people who are chosen by Heaven to be partners and well... from what I've read in the books, their souls are connected to each other which makes their bond stronger than most partners," Keni answered with an awkward smile.
Then Jieun finally asked while trying to stay calm, "Why the sudden want to know if Soulmates are real?"
Keni started to play around with her fingers before answering, "Because Soobin and I have been feeling these weird tingling feelings these past few weeks, and so we decided to read some books about Soulmates last night and Soobin must've found something because he just told me that we are Soulmates."
Many emotions started to rile up inside Jieun, but none of it could compare to the rising panic in her. She wished so badly that she didn't read Yeji's letter that was meant for Keni so that she wouldn't feel all guilty and anxious around Keni.
"Um, Headmistress Lee, are you okay?" Keni asked while sitting up on the bed with worry.
Then Jieun stood up and faked a cough. "You should really rest now, Keni," she spoke up while looking away from the 18-year-old.
"But Headmistress Lee..." Keni watched as the academy's Headmistress started to walk out of the Infirmary, leaving her all alone. "Why are you suddenly avoiding my questions today?"
তততততততততততততততততততততততত
"What exactly happened to her, hyung?" Jisung asked, his voice a little too loud.
Then Sungkyung hits her younger brother's arm and scolded him, "Be quiet! You might wake Keni up!"
Jisung glared at her and sighed. Then Bomin placed two extra chairs on the left side of the bed that Keni was sleeping on. "Kyung, here's your chair," He told his Vampire while pushing Jisung to the other chair.
"Wow, the love I feel from the both of you is so strong!" Jisung sarcastically said while sitting down. Then Jisung thought to himself, "Sheesh! These two absolutely hate my guts."
Then Bomin answered Jisung's question as quietly as he could.
"The Guest Professor for our joint class in Psychology Science made us experience the Fear Simulator for us to know what we fear the most. All went well for me and the other Guardians, but something felt wrong when it was Keni's turn. I heard from Minjung that she saw Professor Nam pushing a button on the machine's board during Keni's fear simulation. Minjung also explained that that button wasn't used during everyone else's fear simulation, so everyone concluded that the button that Professor Nam pushed was what made Keni lose herself in the illusion of her fear. The heart monitor that was built in the machine started to also sound different after Keni had screamed. Then it stopped before Soobin came running in and threw a fireball at Professor Nam which burnt her shoulder. We all then found out while Jaehyuck and I held the Guest Professor down on the floor that Keni had stopped breathing."
Bomin decided to end his explanation right thereafter noticing the expressions on the Oh Siblings' faces. He felt horrible for what had happened to Jisung's Guardian and that he wished he had seen the signs of what had happened today. But even if he did see the signs, he wouldn't be able to go up against Professor Nam, especially since her gift was Pain Illusion. Bomin remembered the pain he felt all over his body as he and the other Guardians were all on their knees screaming in pain. He had never felt so vulnerable in his entire life like today in class, and he hopes that his friends and Vampire wouldn't experience what he went through.
Sungkyung started to feel her gift trying to lash out as she heard Bomin's explanation of what had happened during his and Keni's Guardian class, but she held it down by breathing in and out through her mouth. She wished that she was there to help the Guardians out and to protect her younger sister, but she was with Vivien, Leela, and Hanuel. The three old students of Vladimir Academy were explaining to Vivien the basic house rules of the dormitory in the library. It was only when they were leaving the library when they all had bumped into Bomin. After hearing from Bomin about Keni's almost death, Sungkyung wanted to run to the flooded classroom to see if Keni was alive and well. Leela, Hanuel, and Vivien heard the whole thing and because of that, the news spread like wildfire. But it wasn't Leela and Hanuel who passed the news to the other students. Because Vivien Kang had innocently asked Bomin if Keni lived, the students nearby heard it loud and clear and when Bomin and Sungkyung found Jisung over at the soccer field, Jisung had already known about what happened.
Soon the Oh Siblings and the 5th Year Guardian were on their way to the Infirmary to check up on Keni earlier.

- Lee Keni's POV
It was around six in the afternoon when I woke up. The sun was already setting while I decided to sit up and stretch. I thought that I'd still be alone in the Infirmary, but after I turned my head to the right, I saw Soobin fast asleep on the other bed.
I also thought that he was asleep, but his closed eyes opened up in a fluttering way as if Soobin was in a movie where he did a "slow-mo" scene with just his eyes. I was going to pretend that I, too, had woken up and was not just watching him sleep for almost three minutes. But he caught me staring and sat upright away on his bed.
"You're awake!" Soobin exclaimed both in relief and happiness.
I wasn't surprised to see Soobin in the Infirmary, but I was definitely surprised to see that his once golden-red eyes are a beautiful shade of amber yellow.
"Your eyes, Soobin," I pointed out. "It is not its usual golden red."
Soobin chuckled while I sat up on my bed. "I'm actually wearing contacts," He explained with a small shrug from his shoulders.
"Contacts? In the evening?"
"Just for fun, Keni."
I laughed and shook my head at him. "But still! Soobin, how can you wear that now? You're not here to impress anyone are you?"
"Maya made me wear the contacts, and I am actually here to impress someone," Soobin replied back.
Then I stopped laughing and just stared at the tall boy on my right side. "I wanted to impress you," Soobin continued on. "But instead I made you laugh..."
"I laughed because the idea of you wearing contacts at this time of the day was funny," I spoke up with a smile. "But I didn't mean to make fun of you, Binnie. Oh, and you look nice with the contacts. But if you want my honest opinion..."
Soobin nervously gulped and then I continued, "I like your original eye color. The golden circle around your red irises still amazes me until now because you're the only Vampire with that kind of eye color. You're unique already, and if you're here to impress me, well, you did a good job! But like I said, I prefer your golden red-"
I was cut off out of nowhere when Soobin's lips crashed on mine. I didn't dare to move while his hands had found their way around my waist as he came over to my bed in a swift motion. His lips stayed on mine for a few more seconds before I relaxed in his hold. I closed my eyes and sank deeper into his cold touch while I kissed him back. So many emotions were jumping around inside of me as I tried to calm myself down. But nothing could calm my fast-beating heart.
Our lips moved in sync as if we had kissed before. Everything was just perfect up until my eyes opened. I was shocked and disappointed to see that I woke up from a dream.
"I couldn't believe that was just a dream... It felt too real..." I muttered under my breath as I sat up on my bed.
Then I heard Soobin's voice on my right side and almost peed my pants from the sudden jumpscare. Not that the male Vampire is scary or anything. It's just the aftereffects of having a dream where I was kissing him was getting to me. It had made me feel nervous and jumpy.
"You're awake," He softly called out, making my eyes widen in surprise.
What the? He said the same thing, like in my dream! Don't tell me that once I look at his eyes, he'll be wearing those goddamn contacts!
I slowly turned my head to face him and sighed in relief that he wasn't wearing any colored contact lenses. Although, deep down I kinda wished that he did and that the event that happened in my dream would actually continue in reality. But it could never happen. Soobin is a Vampire and I am a Guardian. It's forbidden for two different kinds to end up being together.
"Now, I know how Maya must feel whenever she's with Dakyung... " I thought quietly to myself as I stared into Soobin's eyes.
"Keni? Is there something wrong?" Soobin asked, pulling me out of my thoughts.
I blinked a couple of times and said with a small smile, "Hm, nothing. Nothing's wrong. Sorry, I just zoned out."
Soobin nodded his head. Then he changed the topic by telling me, "Dinner ended 10 minutes ago in the Dining Hall, but I was able to get the Kitchen staff to save you some roasted chicken, mushroom soup, and fried rice."
"Oh? Soobin, you didn't have to!" I said while pushing the blanket off of me.
"Actually, Maya told me to feed you once you wake up, so I had to," Soobin added in with a chuckle.
I softly laughed and mentally thanked my best friend. Then Soobin helped me to stand up and had placed my shoes on for me. Then we both started to walk out of the Infirmary, his left hand was right on the middle of my back for support so that if I ever end up tripping, he'd be able to catch me in time. I had to make sure that I wasn't blushing the whole time when walking to the Dining Hall.
তততততততততততততততততততততততত
Soobin had then opened the doors to the Dining Hall as we finally reached our destination. But when walking into the hall, I didn't see any plates with food on the table.
"Huh? I thought we were gonna eat," I asked in confusion.
Then Soobin smiled and led me to the other side of the hall. We soon stood in front of a door and when Soobin opened it he said, "We are, but not in the Dining Hall."
I walked inside the other room and then in a few seconds, I realized that we were in the Kitchen. Then in the middle of the room was a plate with one whole roasted chicken, a bowl full of fried rice, and another bowl with mushroom soup. I smiled at the food and looked back at Soobin.
"Thanks, Soobin, for looking out for me," I spoke up before grabbing the sleeves of his sweater and pulling him to the middle of the room.
Then I let go of his sweater's sleeve and sat on one of the two high stools. "The chicken looks so good!" I squealed in delight, making Soobin smile to himself as he sat on the other high stool across from me.
"Go on and eat," He told me.
Then I asked, "What about you?"
"I already ate." He shrugged again and then he pulled his hand out from his side and stuck his finger out at a candle. Then in less than a second, he lit the candle with his Gift.
I clapped like a little kid right then and there, amazed to see Soobin using a small part of his Gift in front of me. Then I started to eat.
Once in a while, Soobin and I would talk. We'd talk about anything except for the events that had happened earlier today. Then Soobin handed me a piece of paper while telling me, "Here are the symptoms that I found in the research book about Soulmates."
I took the piece of paper and carefully read the symptoms. Then my eyes went wide again when I realized how three of the Soulmates' connections are the same symptoms of the connection between Soobin and me.
1. One can feel if the other is in danger.
2. While the other one can feel if his or her Soul Mate is around.
3. One can sense their Soulmate when he or she is in their weakest or strongest state.
4. One can talk to their Soul Mates through a link if both share the same blood origin.
5. One can heal their Soul Mates if both share the same blood origin.
"How is this even possible?" I asked Soobin while I reread the whole thing again.
"I'm not sure, but Keni, this has to be it. The answers to our questions about that tingling feeling!" Soobin said, sounding a lot more excited than I am. "I mean, if we really are Soulmates then that can also mean that most of the other legends and myths are real."
I looked away from the piece of paper and over at Soobin.
Then I spoke up after gathering the courage, "You sound happy about the possibility of us being Soulmates."
Soobin gulped nervously while avoiding my gaze.
"It's not like that... But if I were to choose a Soulmate, then I'd choose you."
This time it was my turn to avoid him.
Damn, you, Park Soobin! You're being too straightforward!
"Why me?" I asked curiously while playing with the fork and leftover mushroom from the soup.
Soobin then looked back at me and softly smiled.
"Because you're not the one who I expected to be partnered with by the Heavens," He answered with all honesty.
"What do you mean? You do not think that I qualify to be your so-called partner in life?" I asked, feeling offended.
Then Soobin shook his head and said, "No, no, it's nothing like that. I was... I was hoping for someone who doesn't come from a wealthy family or is a spoiled brat like Diana. I wanted someone who can understand me and love me for me, and not just because I'm a Royal Blood. Just me."
"I'm from a wealthy family. I may not be spoiled like Diana, but I'm very stubborn when I want something done. So what makes you think that I'm suited to be with you?"
"Because your background is blank. Your original background, I mean. That is enough for me and it is one of the many reasons why I like you."
...Soobin likes me?
তততততততততততততততততততততততত
"Okay, I know how long you've been wanting to ask me about you-know-who," Soobin said as we walked out of the Kitchen through the other exit.
We entered an empty corridor and took a left turn then I noticed that the way where we are going is the way to the Greenhouse, aka the Garden.
"Who?" I asked, totally confused since I'm still trying to process the sudden confession from the male Vampire.
I heard Soobin sighing from beside me as we left the Academy and walked down the stoned path to the Greenhouse.
"You wanted to know who wrote that letter, remember?" Soobin said as we finally entered the Greenhouse.
Then I looked at him in shock and asked, "You're going to tell me?"
The 18-year-old Vampire nodded his head while looking at an empty flower pot and then I softly asked, "Soobin, who is Ruth?"
তততততততততততততততততততততততত
We both sat down on the three-seater swing on the second floor of the Greenhouse and before Soobin would answer my question, we both looked up at the night sky. Tonight the sky that had no stars finally had some and the once lonely moon was no longer alone. This somehow reminded me of how Soobin was before Yeji and Haruto came into his life. Before we both ended up becoming friends and possibly each others' Soul Mate. He was just like that lonely moon, but now he has Haruto who is like the clouds that hug the lonely moon at night. Soobin had once told me how Haruto would always be there for him, like how a younger brother would be if the older brother isn't feeling well. Then the stars that disappeared weeks ago could be Yeji and his father, who he both had lost recently. And the stars that are visible tonight could be me and maybe other people who secretly care about him just as much as Me, Yeji, and Haruto does.
I was then pulled out of my thoughts when I heard Soobin's voice.
"Ruby was a friend of mine when I stayed in St. Luke's Hospital. She's Rose's younger sister, making her Yeji's cousin. It was through Ruby that I was able to meet Yeji noona. Without her, I would have never had a Guardian like Yeji."
"Why was Ruby in the hospital?" I asked right after Soobin stopped explaining.
Soobin scratched the back of his neck before answering, "Her family forced her to stay in the mental ward at St. Luke's after she warned them about how the Great Wolves will return."
"Wait, is Ruby's gift, by any chance, a Vision Seeker? Someone who can see the future?"
Soobin nodded his head as his answer. Then he continued on, "Ruby was only 10 when her family decided to lock her up in one of the rooms in the mental ward. She has been in there for a couple of years until one day she broke out and had bumped into me."
Then I started to wonder why he was at the hospital. So I asked.
"Um, Soobin... Why were you at St. Luke's again?"
Soobin shifted on his spot and said, "I got into a fire accident during a party and the party happened to be Rosie's birthday celebration. My older sister, who was assigned as Rosie's Guardian at the time, was invited and had decided to bring me with her. One of the older guests had thrown a cigarette inside the house and it ended up hitting one of the curtains. Then in less than 10 minutes, the house was on fire. That was also the day when I found out that I'm the Keeper of the Fire Element."
So that's why... That's why you don't like your Gift.
"Rosie's parents were killed in the fire and her older twin sister, Ruth, ended up getting her arm and half of her face burnt from the accident. Their aunt, Yeji's mother, had to keep Ruth away from the public eye to protect her from the rumors and hate. Since then no one aside from the Kim and Baek family has seen Ruth." Soobin stopped again and just when I was about to tell him that he doesn't need to continue on, he looked at me and whispered, "Ruby could never hurt a fly. So I don't believe that she killed or helped in killing Yeji noona."
I crossed my eyebrows in confusion and asked, "What makes you think that?"
"Because Ruby has never left St. Luke's," he replied back while taking a crumpled piece of paper out of his jeans pocket.
I knew right away that it was the letter that Soobin threw away, the one that I picked up beside the trash bin. The letter that brought Soobin to me.
Then Soobin added in while he flattened the letter out, "And the writing in the letter isn't Ruby's. I don't know whose writing it belongs to but I think they know that Ruby and I were friends."
"By the way, how old is Ruby now?"
"She should be turning 15 now. Why?"
I shook my head. "Nothing. I just thought that maybe she'll be studying in the academy if her aunt will ever let her out."
"Keni... You're the only one who knows about this... " Soobin whispered as he looked down at his shoes.
I bit my bottom lip and then felt the connection again. I can feel what Soobin is feeling inside. He was sad, guilty and disappointed. I mentally sighed at how he was feeling. So I slowly took my hands and held his cold ones. Because I was raised and grew up in a family of Vampires, I've already gotten used to their cold skin. And no, it's not because they don't have blood flowing in their veins. It's because their body temperature is just different from a human's, a Guardian's and of course, the Great Wolves. But there are days when their skin is as warm as a Guardian.
"I can feel your emotions right now," I whispered back.
Soobin then looked at me in shock. "But the symptoms said that only one can feel his or her Soulmate's emotions..."
"No, it didn't say "only one". It only said "one". Like, one can sense if their Soulmate is in danger," I corrected him after softly laughing at him.
Then Soobin nodded his head and looked down at our hands.
"You have warm and soft hands," He whispered while intertwining his right hand with my left hand.
I bit the insides of my right cheek from blushing but the bright pink color appeared on my cheeks which made me look away from Soobin whose eyes were already on me.
Then I spoke up, "Soobin, what exactly are we? If we really are Soulmates, then why did the Heavens partner us both?"
"I don't know, Keni. But all I know is that Soulmates or not, I would still end up liking you," He answered right away.
Then I felt his hand on my chin. He gently made me face him and as the moon shone its light upon us, all that I could think about at this moment with him is that maybe I shouldn't worry about the problems of tomorrow.
For now, I don't want to worry about the Forbidden Love.
For now, I just want to be happy with Soobin.
Because we deserve it.
Then I whispered as I lay my head on his shoulder.
"Soobin, I like you, too."
