Chapter 17: The Brains Behind the Legends

Natalie felt the cold air passing by her, tickling her face. She moved her hand around and felt a large amount of fur, soft and warm. She opened her eyes and looked around, and saw herself flying on a large white creature. She looked for it's head, and saw it's light blue eyes, one she knew belonging to the one and only Vast White Pokémon, staring back at her. "Hello, Natalie. I see that you're awake."

"Reshiram, it's truly you! Are you the one who gave me my powers?" "Yes, I am. Your mothers powers were passed down to you through me." "Wait, where's Jacob? Is he safe?" "Yes, he is on me too, and his ability giver watching over him." Natalie looked back and saw a Mewtwo, keeping Jacob from falling off. "That's why his powers were so strong, even when he first used them." "Yes, that would be correct."

It was at this point that Jacob woke up, and started talking to the Mewtwo. "So, Reshiram, who gave my mother her powers?" "You mother's powers were given to her by Entei, and she was the only one in her family to have such a power, or any power." They were touching down at this point, and they got off. They were in front of the Aspertia City Pokémon Center, with Lumen waiting outside for them.

"Hey, you guys are here," she said. "Wait, Lumen? Why are we here?" "You see, Jacob, your parents asked us to assist you in recovering from shock and anything else you might have," Lumen said with a wink. She leaned close to them. "Actually, your parents requested that we run an MRI on you," she whispered to them. "Well, alright then. Lead the way," Jacob said. They turned around before going inside. "Thank you, Reshiram, for saving us," Natalie said. "You're quite welcome, Natalie," the Reshiram said, before taking off.

Lumen lead them to a room with two tables inside. "Please lay down on the tables, guys." Jacob and Natalie laid down on the tables. "Ouch, these tables are rock hard," Natalie said. "Yeah, I know, but it's necessary for the procedure," Lumen told her. "Are you two ready," Nurse Joy asked. Jacob and Natalie nodded to each other, before Jacob said, "Yeah, we're ready."

(45 Minutes Later)

"Jacob and Natalie Daines, your results are in," Nurse Joy told them. "Please come with me." Jacob and Natalie followed her to the same room as before, where Lumen was waiting for them. "Ah, good, you two came. So, we compared the results of you two to the results of me, and found something interesting," Lumen told them. She put up the results of one test.

"This is the MRI of my brain. It is above average for someone my age," Lumen said, oddly without a sense of smug satisfaction like others would have. She put up two other results. "These are your two's tests. Your brains are incredibly well developed for your age. Your brains are almost as developed as that of a 28 year old person. So, if I may ask, do you have a reason for this, even one you're unsure of?"

"Well, I assume that it's from our father. Our father is...a Latios, so maybe his DNA caused the rapid development of our brains," Jacob said. "A...Latios, you say. Well, assuming that you aren't lying, that would explain that." Lumen grabbed yet another result. "This is a scan of a Latios' brain at the same age as you. As you can see, it is quite similar to yours." "And you just have the MRI results of a Latios lying around," Natalie asked sarcastically. "Actually, yes, we do. Any other stupid questions?" "No, not really."

"Well good. Thank you for letting us do this." "No problem, Lumen." They left the Pokémon Center and started to go to Route 0. But, when they reached the edge of town, they were encountered by a black haired woman they recognized as Perfuga. "You, you were the one who gave Megan that tracking device," Natalie said. "Yes, and now I've come for vengeance! You two were the ones who destroyed Team Sutilis, and now, I'm going to make you pay!" She said as she sent out an Aggron. "You're on, I'll make you pay for what you did to Megan," Jacob said, sending out Louis.

"Louis, get ready to school this fool! Force Palm!" Louis sent a beam of energy at the Aggron, who was barely phased by the attack. "Stonewall, Head Charge!" The Aggron became surrounded with a whiteish-blue aura, and charged at Louis. "Steady, Louis, steady," Jacob told his Riolu. Then, right as the Aggron was about to strike, Jacob made his move. "Louis, Seismic Toss!" Louis grabbed the Aggron by the horns and slammed him into the ground.

"Now, end it with a High Jump Kick!" Louis jumped into the air, foot glowing, and crashed down on the Aggron's stomach area. The Aggron recoiled in pain, due to the 4x effective attack, and fainted. "Wow, what a powerful vengeance that was. I can't even describe how tough it was to beat you. Now, if you'll excuse me, we need to be getting home," Jacob said, as him and Natalie walked along the path home.

Perfuga just returned her Pokémon, and walked into the woods. "Those damn kids, I'll make them pay. One day, they will regret ever destroying Team Sutilis!" Perfuga's head was starting to heat up. She was developing a potent fever, and it would soon take her life. She had to lay down, and was ready to accept death. But, as she laid down, her hands began to cool down, and glow a light blue color. She put her hand on her head, which cooled her down, stopping her fever. As she got back up, a dragon landed in front of her, with an ice mask and wings.

"Kyurem, I see that you have given me cryokinesis." "Yes, Mallory, I gave you cryokinesis when you were born, but it has only now manifested in you. So, what will you do with these powers?" "I'm going to practice using them, and then, I will crush those two kids that destroyed my life's purpose!" "No, I will not allow you to use your powers for evil!" "I think that you will," Perfuga said, grabbing a Master Ball. She threw it at the Kyurem, who was sucked into the ball. The ball was made to be inescapable, and it showed.

The Master Ball shook more violently then Perfuga knew it could, even with Kyurem being a Legendary Pokémon. But, the ball shook three times, and clicked. Perfuga was now in possession of a Legendary Pokémon. She smiled to herself as she picked up the Master Ball. "One day, I will have revenge on those kids. Even if it takes me years."

Jacob and Natalie walked into their backyard, where everyone else was waiting for them. "Hey, they're back," Josh exclaimed. Jacob and Natalie ran over to them, running into Josh and Megan's arms. "I'm so glad you're alright! I got worried when we were told that you two went to the Pokémon Center," Josh said. "So, how did it go," Megan asked. "Well, Jacob and I have brains that are more developed then someone twice our age. You can thank the Latios DNA in us for that."

"Well, it gives us another thing we can relate to. It makes up for losing the lack of a mother," Josh said. Jacob and Natalie cringed at hearing this, which Megan saw. "Jacob, what happened? Tell me what happened." "Josh, Megan, your dad...he died holding up the exit from the battling field. The rubble crushed him as Natalie and I tried to escape. He gave his life to save all of us, and his last words were something to behold. He said, 'I fight today, so that they can have a better tomorrow.' He was talking about you two."

Megan and Josh couldn't say anything, the tears in their eyes over flowing. Jacob and Natalie comforted the two, while they coped with the fact that their parents were gone forever. They only stopped because a flash of light came out of nowhere, almost blinding them. They looked over, and saw the faint image of a Latios and Latias looking at them. "Wait, they feel familiar," Megan said. She and Josh approached the mirages, stopping in front of them. "Josh, Megan, it's good to finally see you," the Latias said. "Wait, mom?", Josh asked.

"Yes, Josh, Megan, I am your mother." "I-I never thought that I would meet you, whether in human or Pokémon form, but here you are," Megan said. "We don't have much time. We just came to tell you something," the Latios said. "Josh, Megan, your biology as Pokémon will follow you around for the rest of your life, and eventually cause you to continue the cycle of Soul Dew, but until that day comes, we want you to live your life, and live it how you want to. Spend your life how you want to, with who you want to spend it with, and let no one else tell you otherwise," the Latias said.

"We will be sure to do so, mother," Josh said. "Kids, we will always be watching over you, so make sure you become someone worth watching," the Latios said. The dragons were starting to fade away now. "Goodbye, mother, father. We await the day that we get to join you, but until then, we'll be sure to live our lives to the fullest," Megan said. They waved goodbye to the dragons, as they faded into the aether.

Megan and Josh still had tears in their eyes, so Jacob took it upon himself to get them out. "Guys, I know this must be hard for you, but while you're here, you should make the most of your time. Life is remarkably short, and we need to do what we can in the time we have." "Yeah, you're right, Jacob. So, when are we going to start our adventure," Josh asked.

"Maybe tomorrow, because I'm exhausted. I think that after all I've learnt today, I don't want to do anything, and I mean anything, cause I barely want to think right now." Megan just laughed and hugged Jacob, who began to hug her back, while Natalie kissed Josh on the cheek. They started hugging each other, while Malus and Thomas just looked at each other. "They're going down the same path as you did," Malus told her husband.

"No, their path will have more good than bad." "Also, what about Jacob and Megan? How will they have kids?" "Jacob has my DNA, I'm sure they'll find a way." The two adults just smiled and kissed each other, while the kids relaxed after their victory. They would have many more adventures to come, but now, they needed to rest for their next one.
