Chapter 15: Love is a Battlefield
(Back in Malus' office)
"Alright, Holstein, Body Slam again!" Holstein jumped into the air and crashed down on the Jellicent, it's Scrappy ability allowing the Normal-Type move to hit the part Ghost-Type. The Jellicent was barely phased, but when Holstein landed, it fell to the ground. "Holstein? What's wrong?" "Oh, Natalie, did you forget? Charybdis has the ability Cursed Body, which has now disabled your Miltank's Body Slam! Charybdis, Scald!"
The Jellicent tilted forward, so that it's head was facing Holstein, and it fired a stream of incredibly hot water from the spout on it's head. The water splashed over Holstein, and though it attempted to stay in, the water overtook it, and Holstein fainted. "You did great Holstein, get a good rest for Megan's sake," Natalie said, returning Holstein. She considered her options for Pokémon.
"Corona knows Flash Cannon and Earthquake, but will get demolished by a Scald. Meteor has Thunderbolt, but I'm not sure if she'll listen to me. What to do," Natalie thought. She grabbed a Pokéball from her belt. "Corona, time to shine!" "Oh, how precious, you're using a Fire-Type against a Water-Type!" "Can it, Malus! Type advantages aren't everything in a battle! Now, Corona, Earthquake!" Corona punched the ground, shaking the area and knocking some of the ceiling panels onto Charybdis. Charybdis fell to the floor, barely conscious.
"Charybdis, Scald!" "Not this time! Flash Cannon to counter!" As the water came spewing out of the Jellicent's head, Corona's hand sent out a thin, silver beam to attack. The two attacks collided, pushing against each other, until the Scald let up, and Charybdis was subjected to the Flash Cannon. Charybdis tried to stay on the fight, but couldn't survive the beam's power. The Jellicent fell to the ground, fainted.
"Charybdis, get back here," Malus said, returning her Jellicent. "Corona, get a good rest, I'll need you later," Natalie said, returning her Magmortar. "I'm surprised, Natalie. Your win against Charybdis with Corona was quite interesting." "I already told you, type doesn't determine a fight." "Not that, I'm not sure that Magmortar can learn Flash Cannon naturally. That Magmortar knows a move that it really shouldn't."
Just then, the mother and daughter felt a loud sound rip through the room. They looked through the large window in the office and saw two Latios, one with a red glow in it's eyes, fighting on the battling field outside. "Wait, is that dad? Who is he fighting," Natalie asked. "He's fighting your adoptive uncle, Josh and Megan's father."
"Wait, is that him? Josh and Megan made him sound like a good person!" "He was, until I captured him 7 years ago. Using, what was at that time, experimental technology, I manipulated his mind until he turned to my side," Malus said, a sense of satisfaction in her voice. Natalie could only look at the scene, before her rage took over. She furiously sent out Meteor.
"You disgust me on a level that I can't begin to comprehend. I used to think that everyone had some good in them, but then I met you. I had always hoped to meet my mother, wanting her to be a person that I could look up to, a person that I could think of and say 'I am glad to know her as a person and a parent.' But now that I know what you are really like, I wish I never hoped to meet you. You have no good in you, you are someone that I could never look up to, and I was happy to only know my father, because he is the kind of person that I wish you were like, even if he did lie to Jacob and I about his true identity."
Natalie's words must have touched a soft spot, for Malus was on the verge of tears. But even though Natalie knew her track record, Malus' tears felt real, like she was truly crying. Natalie, at a loss for what to do, hugged Malus, like she was someone she was truly proud to have as her mother. Malus returned the gesture, though she wasn't sure why Natalie was doing this, especially after she just said she hated her.
"Natalie, I wasn't crying because you made me sad. Those were what you might call tears of joy." Releasing Malus from her grasp, Natalie could only stare in shock, mouth agape. "You see, Natalie, what you just said is something that most people would expect from someone older than you, up to almost twice your age. Do you know where that might of come from?"
"No, I can't say that I do." "Well, I assume that it comes from your father. That the Pokémon DNA in your body must have caused your brain to develop far faster than a normal human's would. But no matter, we should continue our fight." She grabbed her last Pokéball. "Don't mess this up, Helen!" Malus' Gardevoir took the stage, ready to fight Meteor.
(Outside, on the battling field)
"I'll let you have the first attack, brother. I'd like your son to see how you fight." "Very well, I thank you," Mr. Daines said. A black ball of energy started to form in Mr. Daines mouth, before he launched it at his brother. The ball slammed into the Latios, pushing him back a bit. "No! You aren't using that!" "Oh, but I am, Wyatt! I assume that you don't like that, eh?" "What are you talking about," Jacob asked.
He felt a hand tap him on the shoulder. He turned around and saw Megan, back in her human form, her long, golden hair and deep, green eyes looking back at him, herself wearing different clothes then she was before, with a white lab coat and business pants on. "Jacob, our mother was killed by a Shadow Ball, which is what your dad used on mine." "Oh, I see, but what I don't see is why you're back into a human form. Couldn't you do that sooner?"
"Well, the energy that Malus used to turn Josh and I back into our Pokémon forms also traps us in said form. When Voltaire released us from those containers, the energy dissapated, and while the situation with you, my dad, and your dad was happening, Josh and I stayed in the back, waiting for the energy to let us turn back into our human forms." Jacob didn't know what to say, or how to feel. He didn't know if he should be happy, angry, in awe, or anything in between, so he just pulled Megan into a hug, which she returned.
He stopped because he felt an attack coming towards him and Megan. Megan's father launched a Shadow Ball at them, which Jacob froze with his telekinesis. He moved them both out of the way, before releasing the Shadow Ball, letting it fly into the wall. "Get away from my daughter," Megan's father said. "Leave them alone! Why are you trying to keep them apart?" "Humans and Pokémon aren't meant to be together romantically! I won't allow it!" "If you won't, then I will! I know that Jacob and Megan are truly in love, and I won't let you keep them apart!"
He fired another Shadow Ball, which Wyatt dodged, but Jacob used his telekinesis to redirect the attack into his technical uncle. "Jacob, I appreciate it, but you shouldn't be doing that." "Okay, sorry dad." Jacob and Megan ran to another side of the room, away from the battle, and sat down. "Man, they're just not letting up at all," Megan said. "I know, and I'm not sure who will win. Hey, while we have a moment of respite, can you tell me what these are," Jacob asked, taking out the things he took from the room they were in before.
Megan took the rainbow stone and the bracelet and examined them. "Wait, Jacob? Do you know what this is?" "No, I can't say that I do." "Well, what if I place this stone in this hole," she asked, putting the stone in the gap in the bracelet. The stone surged with energy, and the purple and blue stone started to glow. "Wait, this looks familiar. This isn't what I think it is, is it," Jacob asked.
