SEVEN: Teamwork

"LET ME GO! DO YOU WANT HIM TO DIE?!"

I likely looked like a feral animal as I fought against Thirteen's hold, but she was stronger than me.
"Eraserhead is stronger than you think! He told you to stay for a reason! We need to protect the students!" I knew she was right, but that didn't change my mind. Aizawa was just one man. A man who was important to me, albeit a pain in the ass.

"If I think he needs help, you can't stop me..." I muttered, giving in to her yanking so suddenly that her final tug sent me stumbling backwards into one of the kids.
"H..he'll be fine, (Y/N). He's a pro, after all..." It was my monkey man, and he helped me stand back up.
"Pro or not, he's one against dozens..." I replied quietly, my adrenaline building.

"Come on, now! This is no time for analysis! We must evacuate!" The bespectacled boy began to shout, and Ojiro grabbed my hand, pulling me along into a sprint with the others.
"I won't allow that." Suddenly, the air became cold, and my heels dug into the earth, body frozen solid. I had no idea why. "Greetings. We are the League of Villains. Forgive our audacity, but today we have come here, to Yuuei highschool, this bastion of heroism, to end the life of All Might, the symbol of peace."

Suddenly I can't breathe so well...

The next few words the villain spoke were lost on me. Normally, I wouldn't be phased by such a confrontation, but there was something different about this. It was almost familiar, but I couldn't quite understand why.
"Not if we end you first!" That was Bakugou's voice, and the scent of burned sugar told me that there had been some kind of explosion. His quirk, I assumed. Quite obviously pointless once the villain continued.

"That indeed was close. Yes, students though you may be, you certainly are the best of the best..." His words seemed genuine, but held an eerie tone. Something bad was about to happen, but before I had a chance to rip off my blindfold, the world began to spin. Ojiro's hand slipped from mine, and I dropped to the ground, flat on my stomach. Screams and yells whirled around, growing fainter and fainter, until they vanished completely.

I can't just lay here like a dead fish..!

Pushing up into a crouch, I tore my blindfold off and opened my eyes as wide as I could, ready to turn the fucker to stone. Black wisps consumed the entrance, like a midnight vista, and the glowing, topaz eyes in the center met mine in an instant.
"Get out of the damn way, you noxious cloud of shit..!" I hissed, feeling Thirteen move up to stand by my side.

Nothing happened.

Despite looking directly into his eyes, he didn't freeze. He just stared back, his swirling movement only slightly slowing.
"You have a striking gaze, Miss, I must express. Pity that whatever you intended has failed. Many apologies." There was something about his voice that left a lump in my throat that just wouldn't go down.

I can't help here...I'm useless against him...but Thirteen...I know what I have to do.

Spinning on my heel, I began to sprint in the opposite direction, nearly knocking Iida to the ground as I passed.
"What are you doing?! You were told to-"
"I don't give a flying fuck at the moon, Specs! My quirk won't work on him, but it can help Shota!" Launching myself from the top of the stairs, I slightly regretted my decision as the ground got closer. The landing, as expected, sent a shooting pain up from my ankle, but that was nothing.

There was Shota, a few hundred yards away, surrounded, yet going strong. I intended on making him just a little stronger. Ignoring my obviously twisted ankle, I sprinted towards him, breaking through the pack of villains before spinning, my back pressing to Aizawa's.
"What the hell are you doing?! I told you to-"
"He teleported the kids somewhere! My quirk isn't working against him, and I decided that you're not the boss of me right now, so just say thank you and kick some degenerate asses!"

Growling under his breath, he didn't argue, round-housing one of our opponents to ran at him. My eyes wide open, several of the bastards froze on the spot, but others were quick to figure that out. Even so, it gave us an advantage. I doubted many could fight without their vision.

"Oh, I've heard of you..." A rasping voice caught my attention, but when I glanced over, he wasn't looking towards me. "You're that theif master told me about. A pickpocket and a hero? What an unlikely duo." Oh, he'd barely said a word yet I wanted to punch him square in the jugular.

On and on we fought, the villains never seeming to thin out. Aizawa did most of the physical work, but I definitely landed a few KOs here and there. It gave me a fresh respect for the man, seeing how determined and brave he was, facing a possible death. He fought like a man with everything on the line, yet nothing to lose.

"Five o'clock!" My head darted to face the direction Aizawa had shouted, and yet another villain froze up. Each time, I made sure to keep their gaze for a good five to eight seconds, no more. They were villains, but still people. I didn't want any more blood on my hands.
"Eleven, quick fast!" I responded, hearing heavy footsteps, followed by a grunt of pain. We worked well together, I realised. Obviously thanks to our constant sparring as kids. It really had come in handy.

"I'm getting tired of this. Nomu..." Shigaraki piped up, but again, he wasn't looking at me. He was well aware of what I was capable of, now, and that made it futile to even try. "...put an end to this so we can get a move on." The hulking meatball of a bird moved, a thought that I had been fearing, and headed straight for us. I tried to catch it's eye, but just like before, nothing was working.
"What's the hold up..?!" Aizawa asked, not impatiently, but more with concern.

"The cunt is fucking cock-eyed, that's the hold up!" I replied in a panic, leaping out of the way as it's fist came down where I had been standing. Skidding to catch myself from falling flat on my face, I looked up in time to see it heading towards Aizawa, my chest seizing.

He's the one who has a chance. If I can keep this freaky son of a bitch busy, even for a little bit, we stand a chance..!

My fingers lifted to meet my lips, and I blew. The whistle was sharp and loud, bouncing off of whatever it reached. The creature, Nomu, or whatever the hand-covered psychopath had called it, turned back to me.
"You're so rude! You can't just show interest in a lady and then ignore her! That's a sure way to break her heart!" I wasn't even sure it could understand me, but I was a smartass to the core, and even if it hadn't, I still gained it's attention. "You wanna play with me, beefy?! Let's play!"

"(Y/N), you idiot..!" Aizawa turned to chase after it, but I shook my head, my expression suddenly flicking over to serious. I didn't need to speak. Even without meeting his eyes, I knew he could tell what I was planning, and whether he liked it or not, neither of us really had much of a choice. The Nomu stalked towards me, an eye facing north, and the other south, and I prepared myself for a world of hurt.

"Wow, you look like a mean one, buddy! You're not gonna go easy on me, are you..?!" Oh, I was sweating. Compared to the beast in front of me, I was nothing more than a toothpick, and despite being able to hold my own in a fight, I wasn't trained for anything like this.
"Don't kill that one. She could be useful. Just hurt her. Bad." The sick freak with the hands spoke calmly, but what really caused me to shudder was the raking of his nails against his skin. That would likely stay with me for a long time.

When the Nomu lurched forward, I hadn't been expecting for it to move so fast, so I barely managed to avoid it's large hands. If it wasn't so tall, I could have probably managed to use my quirk, but the more I looked at it, the more I realised that it wasn't human at all.
"Not even a hello?! Man, you really don't know how to treat a lady, do you, champ?!" Taking a running start, I jumped, ignoring the ache in my ankle and delivering a swift kick to the back of its neck.

It didn't even falter.

Shit...I miscalculated...What even is this?!

I hadn't even touched back down to the ground when it spun around, grabbing me by the upper leg. Its grip was painful, and I couldn't help but yelp as it dangled me, upside down.
"Throw dirt in her eyes. It'll make it easier to contain her." The villain leader ordered, and his minion did just that. Dirt in the eyes always hurt, but that was the least of my concerns. What had me fearful was the fact I had seen Aizawa heading towards us before having it thrown in my face.

"Apologies, but I cannot allow you to interfere." That eerie voice spoke out again, and I tried to force my eyes open, hissing as they burned from the attempt. Hearing Aizawa grunt, I began to flail and kick, only to be flipped right side up and grasped by both of the Nomu's hands. No, not grasped. Squeezed.

"Oh, it's sad you think your quirk will do anything to my Nomu, Eraserhead. It won't work. Just sit back and watch your little friend suffer, and then it'll be your turn!" Raspy McFuckface chuckled from nearby. "At least it'll be entertaining as we wait for the symbol of peace to arrive!"

Back when I was a kid, I'd always wanted to try out those spinning rides. Carousels, and the likes. Now, as the Nomu began to spin me around by the hair, I threw that fond memory down the drain. It hurt. Oh god, it hurt like a bitch, but I refrained from vocalizing it. That would only give them the satisfaction.

"L..lucky I ski..pped breakf..fast..!" I forced out a laugh, strained and hoarse as I finally came to a stop. My guts were still spinning, as though they had been thrown into a dodgy washing machine.
"Break some bones. Bones heal." I was really sick of that man's voice, now, but there was nothing I could do about it, even if I tried. "Enjoying the show, Eraser? What do you think we should break? Her legs, perhaps..?"

Uh, nope. Kinda need those...

Aizawa remained silent, and I was glad for it. If he panicked, I'd panic, though I wasn't even sure if my situation would make him do so in the first place.
"Perhaps merely an ankle, Shigaraki Tomura? If you wish to gain her loyalty, causing her so much injury would likely cause her to defy you." Mr. Familiar spoke so formally, and I deduced that he was the voice of reason. Why, though? What did he care? Either way, I'd rather be snapped in half than join the likes of them.

Shigaraki heaved a sigh, but I assumed he made some kind of signal, as I was quickly spun upside down again.
"Whatever. I suppose you're right, Kurogiri. Snap an ankle, and a wrist for good measure. Then just...knock her out or something. She's annoying me." That was rich. Sure, being annoying was in my blood, but he took my crown, for sure.

"Shigaraki, r..right..?!" I called out, feeling the Nomu position it's hands to do as told. "What's with all those hands?! You must have a groping fetish! N..no judgement! I mean, everyone has a fe-" It took all of my concentration not to scream as my left ankle was snapped. The fucker didn't hold back, and now I was stuck believing that I would possibly never be able to walk on it again.

Yeah...still can't shut me up...

"...fetish! C..come on, pal..! You..you can share! Look, I'll...tell you mine..! I really love...when big mutant f..fuck's break my bones..! Gets my motor running r..real good..!" I wanted to open my eyes and stare into his for a good hour, but no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't force them open. The grit had really gotten in there.
"(Y/N), stop being a smartass..! Please..!" Aizawa's scolding was tense, his struggle apparent in his tone, which told me he was being held down.

"Crush her wrist." Shigaraki's tone, however, was downright pissed off. That was enough to keep me grounded. The Nomu dropped me to the ground, and as I felt it crouch down to me, I uttered a laugh. As loud and boystrous as I could muster.
"Now this is what I'm talkin' about! What? Y..you want my hand for your coll..collection?! Even if you don't know where...it's been?!"

As my wrist broke, I pictured a combat boot stepping across a plain of glass. That was what it sounded like, but my pain threshold was nearing the limit. We needed backup, because I couldn't distract them for much longer.
"Just knock her out already! She's insufferable!" Shigaraki barked, his patience worn out entirely. "Kill her, for all I care!"

Fuck. Me and my big mouth...

"Perhaps not..? You know how valuable her quirk may be..." The voice of the one named Kurogiri again tried to seek reason, but I wasn't sure if it really reached anyone but me. Again, I was hoisted into the air, but this time I knew I likely wouldn't cope with whatever the huge bastard had in store. I was strong of mind, not so much body.
"I'm not letting you ki-"

The last thing I managed to hear was Aizawa's hiss of pain from somewhere behind me as I was thrown across the building. Airborne, and nauseous with fear and agony, I waited for impact, just hoping, praying, that somebody was on their way.

Don't let another one of my boys die...

***I actually hate this? I despise writing for this damn arc, and I completely lost where I was heading with it, but hey. I tried, I guess? Forgive me for rushing through this arc. It makes me anti-moist.

I'll try not to fuck any more chapters up.

Also it's hard writing a character without sight? Why did I choose this quirk again?
