Visualizing Death : 6

I lay my head down on the couch, turning it to watch the television. I watch silently for a few seconds, then I check my watch. They should be here soon.

I return my attention to the TV again, but it only lasts a few seconds before I check my watch again. I'm such an impatient person. I try to watch the movie but I can't get myself to focus. I shut it off, checking the time for the third time. They still have another five minutes until they get here.

I pass time by counting the individual threads in the carpet. I lose track six times, and on my seventh, I hear the door open. I stand up quickly,.wiping the nonexistant dirt off my jeans.

Josh comes into view first. "Hey, Mia."

I wave and smile, "Hey, Josh."

"So you let her call you Josh? But everyone else has to call you Joshua?" a new voice asks, and I can't help but chuckle.

Josh rolls his eyes. "Well, yeah. Things are already pretty rough for her, I'm not going to freak out over something so simple as a name."

Soon a woman appears around the corner. She has the same light blue eyes and black hair, but she's a lot shorter than her son, probably around five feet tall. A smile is etched on her face, and I can tell that she is someone who smiles a lot. I already like her.

"Mom, this is my Meise, Mia Willis. Mia, this is my mom," Josh introduces.

I stretch out my hand and she grabs it, shaking lightly. "It's nice to meet you."

"And it sure is nice to meet you, Mia. Joshua has told me all about you."

I laugh, sending a glance over at Josh to see the tips of his ears turn pink. "Well, I'd sure hope so."

Mrs. Meyers laughs, "I like you."

I laugh with her until Josh moves in between us. "As fun as this whole tea party is, that isn't why we're here."

Mrs. Meyers and I sober up quickly, the atmosphere becoming serious. "You're right Joshua. We need to talk. Shall we sit?" she asks, gesturing to the couch and chairs.

I nod and sit on one end of the couch, Josh sitting next to me, while his mom opts for one of the chairs.

"So, Mia," Mrs. Meyers starts, turning to me. "Tell me how you felt when you first heard what your relationship with Joshua really is."

"What?"

Mrs. Meyers sighs, leaning in closer to me. "When Joshua told you about you being his Meise, how did you feel?"

Nervously, I bite my lip and look over at Josh, who just nods supportively. "Well, I didn't believe him at first, but I'm sure that's normal. Then the reality hit me and I was confused, shocked. I didn't know what was real anymore."

Mrs. Meyers nods, smiling slightly. "Yes, that is very normal, Mia. You should have seen me, I was a complete wreck. But that's not important."

I laugh, relaxing my shoulders.

"Let me make something clear right now, Mia. You will see people dying, even when you learn to control it. I see one once every month or two, depending on how much I socialize. It's something I will live with for the rest of my life, as will you. And while that is unfornunate, there's absolutely nothing you could have done to prevent it, or can do now to stop it."

At her words, I freeze. Although Josh did tell me that I'd live with it forever, somehow having her tell me really strikes me hard.

"Mia," Josh whispers, placing his hand on mine. "It'll be okay. My mom will teach you the best way to deal with this. Just listen to her. Okay?"

I nod, closing my eyes, taking a deep breath, then opening them again. "I can do this."

Josh smiles, tightening his fingers around mine.

"Don't forget, sweetie, that Joshua is here for you as well. And if he's not, well, tell me and I'll get him sorted out in no time."

"Thank you, Mrs. Meyers," I say, and I mean it.

"No problem. I do have to get going though, so I'll be seeing you later," she declares, standing up from her seat.

Josh and I stand, following her to the door. Josh moves to leave as well, but his mom, puts her hand up.

"You can stay here. I'll pick you back up later tonight." And with that, Mrs. Meyers is out the door.

"Well, I guess you can stay here."

Josh chuckles, "Yeah, I guess so."

I boldly grab his hand, and take him back into the living room. "So...."

"So....?"

I roll my eyes. "What do you want to do, Josh? We can watch a movie, play a game...? What do you want? You're the guest."

"And you're the girl. Doesn't that mean you get to choose?"

"I don't think it works that way," I tell him, picking a movie off the shelf and putting it in the DVD player.

Soon, Big Hero 6 is playing on the TV and I don't have to force myself to watch this one. I mean, anyone who doesn't like Big Hero 6, something is wrong with them.

I am one of those people who gets very into movies. I cry when characters die, and cheer when the good guy wins. Both of those things I do when I watch this movie. When it was still in the theaters, I saw it four times. I'm not even kidding. Four. Times.

When the credits start rolling, I'm crying again. Sometimes being so emotional is really annoying.

Josh stands to go put the movie away, but I tug him back down. "You have to see the clip after the credits."

"There's something after?"

"Yeah." Another quirk of mine is that, after every movie, I stay until the credits are done because I have to see if there's an extra scene at the end.

When the extra clip finishes, I allow Josh to put the movie away as I turn off the television again.

"That movie is just a amzing," I exclaim, lying down on the couch. "It's no surprise that it won best animated film."

"That's very true," Josh agrees, lifting up my feet, sitting down and placing my feet on his lap.

"If I had to pick a movie that I had to see over and over again, I would pick Big Hero 6. Or The Princess Bride because that one's a classic."

"The Princess Bride?"

"Don't tell me you've never seen The Princess Bride."

"Alright, I won't tell you."

"That is the sadest thing ever and it needs to be fixed." I stand up, plucking The Princess Bride off the shelf and putting it in.

Out of all the movies in the world, this one most definitely has the most well known quotes because, let's be honest, nothing can beat Inigo Montoya.

Thankfully, this movie doesn't have as many sad parts as in Big Hero 6, so I don't cry through the whole thing. But I do laugh. Because when you put Fezzik and Inigo together, nothing can beat it.

The movie ends and I'm still laughing over all the different jokes and rhymes said. Josh silently puts the movie away and turns to look at me, upside down on the couch, laughing to myself.

"You good now?" he asks, chuckling when I grow silent.

I turn myself around so I'm sitting on the couch like a normal person should before shrugging. "I don't know. Maybe."

Josh shakes his eyes, smiling down at me. "You're so weird."

"Thanks," I say, smiling back. "So now that you've seen The Princess Bride, what are your thoughts on it?"

Josh sits down next to me, sighing. "I kept trying to focus, but you kept laughing at pretty much every single word."

I cross my arms, tilting my head up and looking away. "Sorry that I have class."

Josh chuckles again, "I never said it was a bad thing you were laughing. I just said that I couldn't focus."

It takes a moment, but when I register what he's saying, I blush. "Besides that, though, did you like it?"

Josh pretends to ponder the question, but I can tell he's only prolonging answering me to bug me.

"Just answer me you dork," I tease, shoving him slightly.

"Yes. I liked it."

"Good," I saw, laughing slightly as I think back on some of Fezzik's ryhmes. "I can never get sick of that movie."

"I could," Josh says, shrugging.

I gasp, "Take it back! That movie is gold!"

Josh laughs, "It's so cheesy!"

"Yes! That's what makes it amazing!"

He chuckles again, shaking his head, checking his phone before standing up. "Anyways, I have to go. My mom's here."

I stick out mt bottom lip childishly. "Okay. I'll see you later?" I ask, standing up and walking with him to the front door.

"Definitely," Josh agrees, pulling me in for a quick hug. "Bye, Mia."

"See ya," I say, opening the door and watching Josh walk down the driveway before getting in his mom's car.

I close the door softly, sighing as I lean my shoulder up against it. Maybe I can get used to being Josh's Meise.

The next one's going to be good... I'm super excited. Stay tuned :)
