Visualizing Death : 18

"Rise and shine sleeping beauty!"

I groan at the loud noise, immediately placing it as Alec. I turn my head deeper into my pillow, trying to go back to my pleasant dream of being a princess.

"Oh come on, you promised you'd spend the day with me today."

"I think you're crazy," I mumble, wanting nothing more than to sleep in.

Alec laughs, "So after three days of not talking to you this is the treatment I get?" He pauses. "Well, I guess it's fair."

His last line makes me smile, even though my face is stilll hidden. After Alec and I had sorted out our differences yesterday, he kept teasing me about how blind I was to everything. So, naturally, in response to his claims, I hung up. It only took him five seconds to call me back, but being me, I didn't answer. This situation repeated itself over and over until Josh couldn't handle my ringtone and answered for me.

I still have to get him back for that.

After a lot of negotiation from Josh, I put the phone back to my ear and we continued talking. Thankfully Alec was smart enough to not bring up him liking me again. We then agreed to spending the day together today. That leads to now, me not wanting to get out of bed.

"Oh come on Mia. I already made you breakfast."

As soon as the words are out of his mouth, I pop up from bed. "Breakfast?"

Apparently my reaction was hilarious because Alec fell to the floor in laughter. My response was a flat glare, but I didn't look him in the eye.

"Do you want to spend the day with me or not?" I said, smirking to myself.

My words had an immediate effect on Alec. He sobered up his laughter and stared wide-eyed at me. "Of course I do!"

My smirk grew as I climbed out of my bed. "I'll meet you downstairs in a bit. Keep my breakfast warm for me will you?"

Alec scoffed. "I never said that it was warm in the first place." And before I could question him, he sped out of my room.

Alec likes me.

I almost slap myself when Josh's words come back into my head. Just because my best friend likes me doesn't mean that our friendship has to be weird. As far as I know, he doesn't know that I know that he likes me, and I plan on keeping it that way. If he ever found out, our friendship might go down the drain. Of course I'd have to turn him down. That's one thing that stinks about this whole soul mate thing I have with Josh. It makes it pointless to date or even have a crush on other people.

I groan, frustrated with everything as I change into jeans and a t-shirt, not worrying about dressing up. After all, it's just Alec. We've been friends long enough that I no longer care what I wear around him.

I find my way to the kitchen to see Alec sitting at the table eating cereal.

I raise an eyebrow at him as he notices me. He sends me a sheepish smile. "I told you it wasn't warm in the first place."

I shake my head, fighting to hide the smile on my face, which obviously fails when Alec winks at me.

"I got you a bowl and I took the liberty to pour in your favorite cereal but I figured that I'd let you put the milk in because I know that you don't like soggy cereal," he says, gesturing to the bowl next to him.

I sit opposite of Alec, sliding the bowl over to me. I grin when I see Fruity Pebbles in the bowl. "You know me too well, Alec."

I don't know how people don't like sugary cereal. It's one of the best things that have ever existed. Especially Fruity Pebbles.

Alec chuckles, "That's probably true."

I immediately pour the milk into the bowl and begin to devour the delicious, sugary creation.

All too quickly, my bowl is emptied. I frown at my bowl, deciding whether or not having a second serving would be too much. I shouldn't, I think to myself as I grab the cereal and pour more in anyway.

I was never good at listening to myself anyway.

"So what's the plan for today?" I ask, reaching over Alec to grab the milk.

Alec holds up a finger as he finishes swallowing his food. "Would you be surprised if I told you that I don't have a plan? Because I don't."

I chuckle, taking a bite of my cereal. We finish our food - for good this time - and put our dishes in the dishwasher.

"Do you have a time to be home tonight?" he asks me as we slip our feet into shoes. "Because that may or may not change what we do today."

I simply shrug. "I have no idea, but if I'm needed at home I'm sure my dad will text me or something."

Alec accepts my answer and we head out the door, making sure to lock it behind us. "How would you feel about going bowling?"

I shrug again as we slide into his car. "I'm always up for a good match."

Alec pulls out of the driveway and starts heading in the direction of the bowling alley. "Oh, please, like you can beat me at bowling."

I raise my eyebrows at him. "Are you challenging me, sir?"

Alec rolls his eyes at my formality but responds, "It appears that I am, sir."

I gasp mockingly at him, "Excuse me, but your terminology is incorrect. Last time I checked, I was a hundred percent female."

"And?" he questions, stopping at a red light. "Just because you're a girl doesn't mean I can't call you sir."

In hopes to frustrate him, I angle my body away from him and look out the car window.

"Oh come on, Mia. It's not like you're actually offended by what I said, are you?"

I stay silent, seeing the light turn green in my peripheral. I stare out at the people walking down the road. Well, I guess I should say person because there's only one walking person in sight. She looks to be a mother, pushing a stroller along that, I assume, holds her child. But hey, you never know, maybe she's taking her paralyzed dog on a walk in a baby stroller. People can do some pretty weird things nowadays.

"Did you know that I can tell when you're purposefully being annoying?"

I continue to watch the woman, who I've now named as Cynthia, even as we drive past her. When I can see in her stroller, I do indeed see a child, probably around one year old. Well, maybe the proper age would be 12 months, seeing as that's how mothers refer to their kids. Apparently months are easier to keep track of than years which has never made much sense to me.

"You're pretty stubborn you know that?"

Soon enough, I can no longer see Cynthia and her little baby Taylor. I send them a small wave even though I know that they can't see me at all.

"Who are you waving at now?"

"You shouldn't ask so many questions, Alec. It's annoying."

"Well I got to you speak now didn't I? But seriously, I want to know who you were waving at."

I laugh softly and shake my head. "It's not like you would know who I was waving at anyway. Heck, I don't even know them." I readjust myself in the seat so I'm facing forward again. "They seemed like such nice people though."

"Who?" Alec pressed, turning into a parking lot.

"Cynthia and Taylor."

"And how did they seem like nice people, they could have been serial killers for all that you know."

"Well as long as they aren't cereal killers we don't have a problem."

"What?"

I ignore his question, noticing that we've arrived at the bowling alley. "Are you ready for me to totally beat you?"

"Bring it on, Willis."

"Oh I plan to, Salmon."

So it turns out that Alec is terrible at bowling. I discovered this after doing a very strenuous research that took me years. No, I'm only kidding. It only took me two frames of playing the sport to realize. I mean, he did get four gutter balls in a row. But I guess I should give credit where credit is due. He did get 10 points.

And I'm not talking out 10 points in one frame, I'm talking total. As in he got 10 points while I got 103 as our final scores.

"You know what we should do to celebrate, Alec?" I ask as we return our shoes.

He hums in question, obviously still put out from losing.

"It's okay to lose, Alec. I promise I won't tell Elizabeth that you lost to a girl." Alec scowled at me at that. "Anyway, as I was saying, I think we should go celebrate my victory by eating sushi."

"You know I'm allergic to salmon," he pauses, looking over at me as we leave the building, "right?"

I scoff, bumping my shoulder against his. "Of course I know that. Not all sushi has salmon in it goofball. Come on, I know the perfect place to get some good, cheapish sushi."

Eventually, after driving around town for about 45 minutes because someone couldn't figure out which way was north, we found ourselves sitting down at an Asian food place that offers a sushi buffet for $15 a person.

"I've been here so many times I know what's good," I assured my friend, resting my hand on his shoulder. "You've come with the right person. And guess what, since I beat you in bowling, I'll pay for your lunch. Besides, since you're bad at bowling you're gonna need to save up your money for something you're good at, like school."

He glares at me, swatting my arm away with a menu.

I pick up my own menu and glance through the all-you-can-eat section of the sushi. "I recommend that we start with a Spicy California roll. What do you think?"

"Sure. I think we should try some nigiri while we're at it though."

At his suggestion, I crinkle my nose. "Gross, raw fish."

"Oh come on, Mia. Live a little."

"I don't want to live a little I want to live a long time so I'll pass on the potentially harmful raw meat."

"Fine, fine, eat what you want but I'm going to get a tuna nigiri."

On and on our lunch went. We tried more and more sushi - ones that even I have never had before.  As we were finishing up, I calculated how much sushi we ate, out of pure curiosity.

I laugh in slight shock when I see the total. "Guess how many pieces of sushi we ate. Guess!"

Alec groans, "Too many. Ugh, I'm so full."

"88. And that's counting all your weird nigiri stuff. That's a whole lot of sushi for only $30."

"I just wanna go lay down and never get up again. Oh my gosh it hurts."

"You sound like some pregnant lady, Alec. Should I be concerned?"

"Of me being pregnant? Totally."

"You know what, I think we should order one more. Maybe a Godzilla roll? Those ones are good."

Alec groans again and he presses a hand to his forehead. "If you order another roll I'm not going to eat any of it."

"So you say now."

I quickly flagged down a waitress and asked for another Godzilla roll. It arrived quickly, thankfully and I put seven of the eight pieces on my plate.

"That one is for you, Alec."

He glares at me but nevertheless, he picks up the sushi and puts it right in his mouth.

"Look at you, you did it."

However, the more Alec chewed his food, the wider his eyes grew. He quickly spit the half-chewed sushi onto his plate and frantically searched his pockets.

"Are you okay, Alec?"

His head popped up to look at me and we made eye contact. I quickly built up my inner walls and pushed the vision away. I couldn't help but smile briefly at my accomplishment. The smile dropped when I took a closer look at my friend. Hives were growing on his face and his breathing was becoming raspy.

Pieces clicked together in my mind and I realized what was happening. He was going into anaphylactic shock. I jump out of my chair and run out to Alec's car where I know he has an EpiPen. I scramble through his glove box and right when I'm about to admit defeat, I spot the EpiPen. I quickly grab it before running back into the restaurant where I find Alec with his hand to his throat as he tries to breathe.

"Alec!" I call, gaining his attention. He looks up at me as I jab the pen into his leg. The response is immediate as his breathing becomes easier.

A waitress shows up next to me. "What's wrong?"

"He's going into anaphylactic shock, that's what's wrong," I snap, getting angry at her. I mean, obviously, someone made the sushi roll wrong and put salmon in instead of the tuna. And even though the rational side of me knows that it wasn't the waitress' fault, I can't help but take it out on her anyway. I take in a deep breath of air. "I need you to help me take him out to his car. He needs to get to a hospital pronto."

The waitress immediately responds to my request and together we get Alec in the car. I drive off, barely remembering to thank her as I go.

Yeah I know I know I'm terrible at updating anything. So I know that this is mostly a filler chapter, but here it is.

I hope you enjoy it and don't be afraid to comment and vote! I really appreciate the support!
