Casey and Izzie did sleep in the same bed that night. It was the second time they had done it.
Not because they wanted to, of course. Because they were both too exhausted to go out of their way to avoid each other. They just wanted to sleep, so they did. Casey, however, had gathered a bunch of pillows from the couch to place in between them, so that Izzie knew Casey didn't want her anywhere near her.
Izzie looked at Casey as she shoved the pillows into a line, not saying a word. "Why are you doing that?" She eventually asked, softly.
"Oh because I'm such a violent person who beat up your poor boyfriend for no reason so you probably need some protection from me," Casey laughed before turning off the lights and flopping onto the bed.
She felt uncomfortable movement from Izzie's side and she knew she was having trouble sleeping. But Casey had already promised herself that she would not care. She had planned how this was going to work out.
And it had been a week of Casey and Izzie completely ignoring each other. Izzie never purposely did it, but she never made the effort to talk to Casey anyways. Casey made her anger known. Now, they had 5 weeks left of this trip and Casey had no intentions of fixing things, content with going home without any trace of Izzie left with her. Content with going home to her boyfriend, someone who actually loved and cared about her.
Casey had also taken more time to keep in touch with Evan, calling him whenever she had the time. She was happy that their relationship was slowly becoming strong again and by the time half of the second week was gone, she even felt like she was slowly getting over Izzie.
Keyword: FELT
There was that one night when Casey and Evan were keeping each other busy with a rather steamy texting session and Casey just about had her hand in her pants. She was close to sending Evan a picture too, something she had never done before, but Izzie had interrupted her.
The thing is, Izzie didn't even come into the room. Izzie wasn't even there! The mere THOUGHT of Izzie completely distracted her from Evan and soon enough, her mind wasn't clouded with the sexual messages from her boyfriend, but instead, with images of Izzie as Sweater Weather played into her ears.
That's why the keyword is FELT. She never actually got over Izzie. Casey doesn't think she ever will.
The more the girls ignored each other, the more they craved the other person's attention. Casey hadn't seen Nate for the past week which was good for her anger management. But just looking at Izzie could send her into a spiral of rage.
Skiing had become more familiar for everyone as they got more confident skiing down the slopes. Some had even decided to take trips to the higher peaks which had a better view. Quinn and Penelope invited Casey and Izzie, as part of their plan to get the girls back together. At least as acquaintances.
They gave excuses like, "I'm too tired" or "I don't think I'm able to go that high"
But today, Quinn and Penelope had asked them separately. After Quinn lied to Casey that Izzie wouldn't be there, and Penelope lied to Izzie that Casey wouldn't be there, they agreed to venture to the top.
Sharice and Tanya had seen Penelope ask Izzie to follow the group to the top. But when Casey had told them she was going because Izzie wouldn't be there, they did not tell her the truth. They wanted this to happen. Casey and Izzie not being in each others' good books was horrible for everyone.
So when the girls saw each other at the bottom of the slope, they looked wide-eyed and Quinn and Penelope chuckled nervously.
"So let's go!" Quinn exclaimed, taking Casey's hand before she pulled it away. "I'm not going," Casey muttered before shuffling away.
...
And then it was the beginning of the third week.
Casey realised that Izzie was staying put in the room more often than usual, which was pretty shocking. She expected Izzie to be out partying or going out of her way to brutalise Casey but she just... existed. It was like she didn't care, and Casey wanted her to care. She wanted her to care a lot.
Now, before we immediately put the blame on Casey for being childish and bad at communicating (which she definitely is), she has every right to be mad. She knows it, Quinn and Penelope know it, Sharice and Tanya know it... and Izzie definitely knows it. It does suck having your friend believe their asshole cheating boyfriend over you. So Izzie allowed Casey to be childish and bad at communicating. It hurt seeing her walk away from her at the slopes, but she never stopped her.
The Wednesday of the third week hit the hardest for Izzie because she was... losing it. She wanted Casey. But Casey didn't want her.
"I can't believe you ran away from your family to go on that ridiculous ski trip!" were the angry words of her mother Sasha Taylor, that continuously rung in her eardrums the entire day. Sasha had called her in the morning, clearly drunk out of her mind. "Where are the kids?" Izzie had asked calmly first. "In school. I had to wake up and bring them!" Sasha slurred back and Izzie furrowed her eyebrows. "How have they been going to school the rest of the time?" She asked, slowly closing the bathroom door as she heard footsteps enter the room, knowing it was Casey.
"Your grandmother has been bringing them. You know, I can't keep doing this, Izzie," Sasha cried and sniffled. On the inside, Izzie always felt a sense of relief knowing her siblings were with their grandma instead of Sasha every time Izzie wasn't around. Her grandma cared deeply for her grandkids and Izzie trusted her.
One of the only people she trusted in her life... along with Casey. But she was gone now.
"What do you mean you can't keep doing this?! You're their mother! I shouldn't be the one solely responsible for them!" Izzie cried before ending the call. The shuffling outside the toilet door stopped and Izzie knew Casey was listening.
Izzie quickly dialled her grandma's number. "Hey... hey grandma... could you pick up the kids from school today? Mum's going through something... again..."
The comforting voice of her grandma put her at ease as she assured her that everything would be alright. But she wanted to hear it from Casey.
She slowly walked out of the bathroom to see Casey hurriedly pretending like she was doing something else as she started to pour herself a glass of water.
It felt like torture trying to stop herself from asking Izzie if everything was alright. Because she knew it wasn't. From what she heard, from the way Izzie's distressed eyes started to tear...
Izzie was the first to speak.
"We can't keep doing this..." Izzie whispered. "Doing what..." Casey mumbled, not wanting to have this conversation at all.
"This... ignoring each other..."
"I have a valid reason to ignore you," Casey shot back, drinking from her glass. "You believed Nate over me."
"All I did was get him first aid," Izzie sighed. "Yeah that's another way of saying you believe him over me," Casey replied, putting her cup in the sink.
Casey was about to leave the kitchen when Izzie spoke again. "I don't mind the ignoring... but you can't ignore me and then... do all of this..." Izzie muttered and Casey gulped as Izzie moved closer.
"All of what?"
"Tell me the truth Casey," Izzie's voice broke as she trapped Casey against the counter, between her arms.
"If you didn't have a boyfriend, would you have continued whatever happened between us after the party that night?" Izzie sighed, looking up at Casey pleadingly.
Casey didn't reply as Izzie chuckled humourlessly. "Because friends don't look at friends that way."
"If Evan wasn't in the picture..." Izzie muttered, moving closer to her ear. "God, the things I would do to you."
Casey couldn't help but let out the breath she had been holding in as she shuddered.
"Break up with him," Izzie dared and Casey looked at her wide-eyed. "Evan isn't the problem. It's Nate," Casey shot back. "Nate cheats on me, he doesn't love me. He's not the real issue here," Izzie said and deep down, Casey knew she was right.
"So stop leading me on and stop pushing me around like I'm your fucking bitch. You wanna be loyal to him, then be loyal. But if you want this to happen..." Izzie started, pointing between herself and Casey.
"Then break up with him. And I'll be here when you do."
Izzie stayed with Quinn that night.
